Hero was finally released in N America and Britain. But that doesn't really count, considering it was released in China in 2002...

As for 2004 releases in China, there are four:
    1) Purple Butterfly
    2) 2046 (Wong Kar-wai)
    3) House of Flying Daggers (Zhang Yimou)
    4) Jasmine Women (she just won her *second* Golden Rooster Best Actress Award, essentially China's equivalent to the Oscar)

    2005 releases thusfar will include:
    1) Operetta Tanukigoten (Japanese)
    2) Memoirs of a Geisha (American)

Ziyi's been very busy. The honor is well deserved for all five on the list.

I believe Purple Butterfly, which sucked, was a 2003 movie.

True, you're correct. It was released in China in 2003. Many fans didn't like it either. Many say that even the good line-up of actors, including Liu Ye, Nakamura Tôru and Ling Bingbing, couldn't save the film's very poor editing.

Palm Pictures plans to re-edit the film and release it later this year in N America. Hopefully, they'll be able to save it. In the meantime, the original is very active on the art-house circuit.

Still, that's 3 Chinese films released in 2004. Ziyi's influence on China's entertainment industry is still being felt.
