I'm watching this series now and it's pretty good. It's a bit slow moving, but, well written. You won't find series like this nowadays that detailed the nuances of life. It follows the story of 5 friends from their teen years to adulthood and the different life path they took. This series initially set to follow these women from teenagers to old age. But, it was cut short due to some of its ratings being snatched by ATV's 'Fatherland'. According to the producer Kam Kwok Leung, this series did not lost to ATV in ratings. It's ratings was still higher than ATV, but, it's not as much as in the usual. But, the main reason for it being taken off the air was because TVB want to increase advertising fee and need to a good showing to make the bargaining power strong. So, they cut short 'Five Easy Pieces' and produced 'Shell Game' in a short period of time, asking ratings guarantee Liza Wang to star in it.

I really want to know what happen to them in the end, what the full story will be like. I hope TVB will remake this series. But, it will be wishful thinking.

Wong Ying Ha's self-esteem problem really is ruining her friendship. She has 4 friends who care so much for her, really think of her as their sister and never look down on her. But, she herself, because of the self-esteem problem, keep distancing herself from her friends. The more successful the friend, the more distant she became. First, it's Gan Man Yee, now, it's best friend Wong Wing Yee. So, frustrating.

She might be the poorest, but, she's also the most high maintenance, imo. I really salute her friends. They kept showing her concern and trying to include her in everything despite her constantly pushing them away.

She said she doesn't want to look lacking in front of her friends. But, none if her friends actually look down on her.

I think she never really cares for her friends like they do her. She's just concern in not being look down upon (even though no one actually look down on her). Never cherishing her friends.

I have not finish watching. Just a few episodes more. The VCD included the episodes that has been aired and supposedly some that has not.

Back to Wong Ying Ha. Ironically, her best friend understand her the most. She knew WYH doesn't like to be pitied. She knew WYH is ambitious and want to show to people that she's also capable of achieving something. So, when Wong Wing Yee won the singing contest instead of her, she was upset. She's a very hardworking girl and smart. But, too bad due to family circumstances, she has to stop studying after form 3 while her friends can gone on studying. I think this hurt her self-esteem a lot. Maybe she felt that heaven gives her a bad lot. But, she's a very tough girl and work hard to provide for her family. Stuck with a mother who is constantly complaining, her life is even worse. She really want to win the contest, but, Wong Wing Yee, without much effort can win it (WWY is always the lucky one. She can achieve things easily without much effort). But, I think the reason she didn't not win is e because she tried to too hard, while WWY just enjoyed the song.

Wong Wing Yee is such a good friend. She's always trying to include WYH in activities, trying to make her happy, encouraging her to join the singing competition so that she can have some fun and breather and not just work work and work. But, this contest turn out to be the point that ruined their friendship. Such a pity, and it's no fault of WWY. What can she do if the other person is so easily hurt and offended.

So many new people is coming up now. So many good potential stories. Too bad it's going to end soon.

Thanks for the recommendation. I started watching this show online, and it was actually one of the older series that sustained my interest. (Pacing of older TVB series are often too slow for my taste.)

Suzaka, I'm kinda in a dilemma now. I'm glad you enjoyed the series, but, feel bad about making you start on a series with no proper ending. I don't know you will still thank me or not after you reach the ending. :P
This series was cut abruptly due to unsatisfactory rating. So, it kinda has no ending. But, I didn't regret watching it. I enjoyed with while it last.

This series has so much potential. It's just warming up and TVB discontinued it due to monetary reason (want to increase advertising price so have to have good record for stronger bargaining power).

Wong Wing Yee's story just started getting interesting with the appearance of Sek Sau's character. Chan Yuen Han's storyline still has not developed yet. Chak Yuet Sang's storyline also has just started not long ago. I hope Wong Ying Ha end up with the police officer played by Lam Ka Wah. Don't really care what happen to Cheng and Gai Man Yi. But, I wonder, does Cheng really loves Wong Ying Ha or she's just a replacement for Gai Man Yi like Wong Ying Ha herself said? It's hard to tell. He seem genuinely like Ying Ha.

I wish TVB will remake this series and continue the story until the end. They can ask the original producer Kam Kok Leung to help produce the series. But, I know this is wishful thinking. Maybe I should mention this in TVB forum.

I have seen this series before, am I right that shek sau only cameo in here? because when i saw this series, he just show up in the end episode just several minutes only. Am i missing something? i saw this series because of him
