    Default Weight Loss Strategy

Any pointers on losing weight and maintaining it?

Was there a strategy that worked really well for you? Just joined a gym, plan to do cardio everyday ... hopefully I am determined to do it!

1 hour cardio and one hour yoga - five days a week. You can lose up to 10 pounds in a month, and your body will be super toned.

A lot depends on metabolic rate, doesn't it? Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

But, if you are in hurry to lose weight and not worry too much about temporary side effects, lose sleep and eat less. That will work, but maintaining it over the long run will require discipline and regular exercise.

If you have a discipline workout routine and a discipline diet, then you can easily loose up to 10 pounds in the first month (mainly it is water that you are losing). After the first month, then you won't be able to loose the pound as rapidly, but your body will start to look toner. This is only speaking from my experience as I'm not an expert by any mean.

I used to hate working out as well, but I got hooked on yoga and the rest is history. The cardio workout is anywhere from 30mins-1 hour on the elliptical machine. Crank up some techno musics and you should be fine.

To loose weight effectively and maintaining it and stay healthy:
    - Cardio
    - Weightlifting: muscle needed for fat burning
    - Calorie control: eat less than your calorie maintenance allowance

    NO PAIN NO GAIN

let me be the 1st to tell you, not gonna happen.

Other wise unless someone punch you in the stomach after every meal making you throw up, it ain't gonna work. Hell even that might not work, lowering metabolism all day by cutting sleep = less calories burn on average.

I think people just don't realize how hard it is to burn calories, evolution have made human very efficient when it comes to energy usage. sucks when running 1 mile barely touch any calories, while eating a steak meal put on a crapload.

well the good news is ... when i worked out everyday for about 2 months, i was able to drop my body fat drastically ... and now i still maintain that but i'm not as toned than i was before.

regardless, i'm going to just keep working out and whatever happens, happens.

fyi - i went to the gym today with my personal trainer, my God! i was about to die!

at least you're not like that ppl at my gym. their first time with a trainer, some end up puking.

you can't just do cardio all the time. you need to do some light weights/yoga to tone your muscles.

For cardio, you can try the high intensity interval training.

yeah i use the weight-loss interval on the elliptical, but i need to know what's a good amount of miles covered during a 30 minute routine.

    anyone done a half marathon?

how fast can you go? 30 min is a long *** time if you're trying to go full speed, normally 8 min miles, so like 4? can you run 4? my fat *** can't even make 1 haha.

IMO, diet > exercise when it comes to weight loss. If you want to be toned and have what I'd consider a nice body, you need to exercise, but from my observations, everyone I know who is overweight eats more than I do, and not healthily either.

Aw, don't do that...the real point of losing weight is to be healthier and live longer anyway! Although I won't lie - I'm vain as hell and the aesthetic part is much more appealing. But I do advise that you don't cut on sleep. I read an article the other day on how when you sleep you produce leptin, which is important for curbing the appetite. Also when I don't sleep enough I'm sore as hell and even raising my head hurts, let alone the three miles they make us run.

Oh yeah, about your elliptical question, I don't know how many miles it is, but I suggest you don't think too much over the number because many ellipticals count distance through rotations, so it's more like biking than running. Also, the elliptical supposedly burns a lot of calories, but from my experiences it's not nearly as difficult as just running around the track.

And don't worry guys. One day I'll invent some sort of fat transplant so 60% of America can donate fat to impoverished children.

I've never thought about the miles before. All I know is that 30mins non-stop on the elliptical will burn at least 500 calories.
