The pros: Fighting scenes. Fast and believable swordplay choreography, not too many CGIs. Even though the main guy Yuan Chengzhi is never an interesting character to me, but the plots about Golden Snake Swordsman and An Jianqing are very engaging and well-acted. Very captivating at the first part. The cons: The well-developed and fast-paced beginning became draggy in the middle, to the point it was so unbearable to watch. The love story was lack of chemistry. Fortunately at the end it went back interesting again and that was enough to make this to be the best adaptation of Bi Xue Jian, so far.

I can only say that the half part of this series is quite interesting. However, the last half is dragging!! All actors play very well in the first half, but as storyline starts to get bored, all the actors' acting add to the boredom! Well, i was extremely entertained in the beginning, but half-way i almost fast-forward a lot of unimportant scenes with too much talking. Too bad it happens to classic series like this. Even the average reviews on this site give it 4/5, i can only give it 3/5 and i have been super generous already!!

What I've liked about BXJ from the very beginning was its focus on themes of duty, revenge, justice, moral dilemmas and friendship. While some romance element is fine, too much of it is seriously annoying.
...
The contrasting images of two emperors, both in their own way enemies of the country, yet both endowed with human dimension that makes them so much more than simple 2D villains; Chongzhen's struggle with his own incompetence; the changing outlook on An Jianqing's loyalty to the Ming; Liu Fangliang and Li Yan in the last episode... All these things are so much more interesting than the dull romance element...;-)

I'd give this drama a 3/5. All the supporting actors and actresses did a great job except for the actor who played the protagonist. He was quite stiff and his love relationship between Qing Qing was so dull. There is no chemistry between the two. They can only look good standing next to each other, but once they interact, they look like two strangers.
I agree with most of the things that the reviewer wrote about, just I wouldn't give it a 4/5.

Ah, I must say I disagree with the review regarding the romance between QingQing and Yuan Chengzhi.
In my opinion, I think it's more of his strong sense duty towards JiangHu and his sense of revenge that he does not depict overt affection towards QingQing. From the episodes, I can tell that he really does love her, but circumstances does not really "allow" him to bestow more physical attention/affection.
As for Princess Ah Jiu, I am SO incredibly annoyed with her. She looks to be a gentle and caring character, with a strong sense of justice, however, I just don't like her as a person. Especially the scene after ChengZhi saves the Emperor from the Emperor's Brother's plot to usurp the throne, Princess Ah Jiu had the freaking NERVE to ask him to keep his SWORD so he comes back to see her. I'm sorry, that is SUCH a cheap, CHEAP way to make a guy coming to see you!
There's my two cents XD

Entertaining adaptation of Jin Yong's "Bi Xue Jian" novel with creative swordplay and fighting scenes. Book purists should be pleased - though this adaptation is supposedly based on the 3rd revision of the novel so our main character is wishy-washy in his love.
