I disagree with the review which said that Matsumoto Jun wasn't right for the role of Doumyoji. Like most other viewers who had watched Meteor Garden, I was shocked when Jun was cast as Doumyoji, since he's short, thin and almost girly, nothing like the tall, strong Jerry Yen. But Jun's acting is so much more nuanced than Jerry's acting - he makes Doumyoji more human and believable than Jerry ever could have. Don't get me wrong: I still <3 Meteor Garden, but I also feel that HYD manages to give it a good run for its money.
I agree that this was an *amazing* show. It's touching, sweet and uplifting all at the same time, without ever becoming sappy or cliched. All the actors/actresses were fantastic, especially the girls who played Aya and Ako. The scene when Ako reprimanded Hiro for being ashamed of Aya - that was one of the most moving scenes. Everyone I watched it with was bawling their eyes out! This show is a must-watch for its high quality of production!
