In a room, the clock strike 7:00 A.M. sharp, and suddenly a girl awoke from her bed yelling "Ahhhhhh, I'm so going to be late for school" at the top of her lungs. A woman in her thirties appeared in a white shirt and skirt saying, "Honey, Today is Saturday. You don't go to school on weekends. Are you okay?"
"Oh I forgot, I worked so hard yesterday for my projects that I thought I have to turn it in today. Oh well, one moment of clumsiness never kill me you know; well, this only happens sometimes."
"Sometimes?¡" said Mrs. Le sarcastically.
"Mom, how is it that you can start a morning like that? Do you want to drive me crazy?" said Ella in a very tiresome voice.
"Alright, I'm just here to tell you that get ready to eat breakfast downstairs." She closed the door as she left afterward.
Ella got up from her bed and folds her sheets to prepare for today's night. Standing there in the middle of her room in her poka dots pajamas, she looked like a new born angel, with her hair hanging down to her waist as straight as chopsticks even after the long night sleep. A sudden voice sound so familiar that she knew who speak it.
"Sorry Ella, I forgot to tell you something. Am I invading your so call privacy entering without knocking like this because you know, you didn¡¯t lock your room. "
'Mom, you are already in my room. What do you think?'
'um¡¡¡¡..ug¡¡¡.oh¡¡'
Smiling, Ella said, "It's fine, I¡'m just joking around. Now what do you need? I have to get dressed for running.'
'Oh, I'm not going to cook today so we are dining out this evening. Are you fine with that?' Mrs. Le said in a tone expecting some sarcastic comments striking from her daughter for a lawyer always want a good discussion.
'Fine? I would love to escape from the everyday home made food that I have to eat such as ramen noodles and pizza. Such healthy foods!'
'Girl, from now on, you are not getting any food. Get your own food. This gives me an idea, why don't you cook for us today instead of dining out?'
An express of 'what are you saying' showed on Ella¡'s face but she said instead, ' Are you sure you want me to? Do you think that you would head to the bathroom or hospital first? Hm¡ since daddy's here, maybe he can give you some shots for anti ¨Cpoisoning food. Do you really want that?'
Mrs. Le suddenly remembered the last time that her daughter cooked for the family when she got sick. The purple looks on everyone's face begging her to get well soon not for her sake but for the family's. This incident seems like it happened yesterday.
'Fine, I lose.'
'A lawyer lost to a 16 year old girl, are you that professional? I really feel for your clients when they go ask you for their defender. You know what, you should have a discount', Ella said sarcastically.
'Oh, really? I think we should get another house than this one because who is gonna pay for the bills when my charges get cut?'
'Maybe we should get a major big one because this house is small', replied Ella.
'How am I going to pay the bills then?'
'We will just get our house pulled and live in an apartment'
'Gosh, how can you talk like that? Who teach you such manners towards me huh? A fine young lady should never talk like this to her mother. Do you know any manners?'
'Mom, are you yelling at yourself because you are my mother. My manners came from you which mean that you have no manners.'
'Maybe I should exchange my job to you and be a student instead for I'm such an innocent mother'
'ummmmmmm¡¡.okay¡'
'You better hurry up and get downstairs for breakfast. I want my daughter to be as healthy as possible. Look at me, such a body, and you, a stick figure without bones.' She laughed evilly to herself expecting some tactful reasoning from her daughter when she purposely said her metaphor wrong.
'Mom, you have such a poor way of creating metaphor. Stick figure without bones? Wouldn't that mean that I¡'m dead or unable to live? I think you should say 'stick figure without meat' because that sounds way better.'
'Do you want to be an English teacher? Girl, I learned English before you even were born and so snap, I¡'m your mother. What I meant by a stick figure without bones is that even if you are like a stick figure on the outside, you do not have any supports like bones on the inside. The point of my metaphor is that you should work yourself to the point where you are strong and health. You have a body of a stick and still lack its strength. Get it?'
'Your forceful way of forcing people to accept your pathetic explanation really has gone to a point that gets on people's brains. You know mom, I wonder how your clients can survive you for even one day.'
'Dear, how can your teacher keep up with you for an hour? I just can never do that. Lucky me, I'm a lawyer and the clients have to face me not me face them.' Now she laughed to herself evilly again to tick off her daughter.
'Okay, why don't you go downstairs and microwave my breakfast again because it's too cold by the time I finish talking to you. Now, may I please get my cloth on for the running that I need?' Ella said in an annoyed tone.
'Alright, never learn to accept your beautiful, nice, and sincere mother; such a daughter you are. Oh I gotta tell my honey how horrible you have treated me.' She left closing the door behind her.
Ella went to lock her door and said, 'before there could be any more interruptions done by my most SINCERE, AND HONEST mother.' Then she laughed to herself.
Back downstairs, Mrs. Le said 'your daughter has gotten better and better everyday. I remembered the first time I said something mean to her, she would yell at me for being such a nice and understanding mother.'
'Your ways of doing things, I never get them. By the way, how can you train her every Saturday morning like that? Those energy you have, if you can just share with me some then I would be very thankful', said Mr. Le.
'Dear, if I don't refresh my brain through her then how am I going to have my inspirations to continue to work as a lawyer? Do you know how hard it;s for me to do this?'
'I thought that this is very easy for you since you have done it the day she knew how to speak. I admire her so well of how she can still be such a lovable, smart, and understanding child after all those pressures of negative feedbacks you fed her all those young and innocent ages of hers?'
'You sound like I¡¯m such a horrible person. I don't intend to hurt her, just help her, because she knew too well that I'm attacking her verbally.'
'My dear, if you want to practice your tongue skills, I would not help you, but if you need any medical attention, you can call me through this number', he handed her his business card.
'You must be kidding; I don't need a psychiatrist for this. I'm too well off with my daughter that a smart and serious guy like you can never understand our strong relationship¡¡¡¡even with all those tactic comments I have', she said in a tone of a well sophisticated woman.
'Hahhahahah, you are such a wonderful person. I¡'m so glad I married you', he hugged her and plants a kiss on her forehead before heading out to work.
'His way of making me feel like a feminine lady again always works. I must admit the only two persons whom I have lost to were him and Ella.'
She headed off to her room and dressed up for the day at work.
