Hopeful Love

In the small village called Junseihana, there lived an adorable young couple named Adrian and Colleen. Since childhood, they have been very close for they grow up together as playmates, schoolmates, neighbors and best of friends. The two of them are the town’s favorites for they are known of their good moral principles due to good upbringing.

Now as both of them are eighteen years old and as Adrian has already confessed his true love for his friend, Colleen, they have finally decided to get married. Upon knowing this, their parents rejoiced and so is the town for they believe they will make a perfect pair like a couple chosen by the heavens above.

But as their wedding was already set and as everyone thought that everything will be perfect, a war broke in at the far part of the kingdom. The king sent his messengers to all parts of the kingdom including their town to ask help to all brave warriors who would voluntarily fight in the war to protect their kingdom from being invaded.

Adrian, who has such an affectionate heart not only for Colleen but also for his kingdom, was troubled with this great dilemma as to go and join the war to protect his kingdom or to stay and be with his beloved Colleen. Even though Adrian was wordless about it, Colleen can sense very well what was troubling Adrian for she, herself is also troubled about it. So she confronted Adrian about it, encouraging him to do what he thinks is right for she understands him very well as she also love their kingdom from where they both grew up.

Thus, on their supposed wedding day, Adrian left the town for the war with other brave warriors. As they bid farewells to each other, Adrian can’t refrain himself from shedding a tear to leave his beloved Colleen on their exact supposed-to-be wedding day but Colleen cheered him up by saying she is proud of his courageousness and she will always wait for him for their wedding. Though the town was disappointed that the couple’s wedding was cancelled, they were proud of the couple’s great deed.

It has been five months but Adrian has not returned yet nevertheless Colleen still remained faithful. But she was not able to avoid herself from being depressed so she became ill with sickness, which even their town doctor has no idea of.

It has been seven months but Adrian hasn’t returned yet moreover, Colleen’s sickness seems to grow worse as ever that she is finally losing hope to see Adrian again. The town tried everything to cheer her up by visiting her, giving her foods and assuring her that Adrian will soon be back but this doesn’t seem to work anymore. Her parents started to worry even more when the town doctor announced to them that she is already a hopeless case.

Thus, everyone believe it is already the end until Iris, a sweet little girl who happens to be Colleen’s cousin arrived to visit her and give her a flower she has picked up in the forest along with her family. When Iris hand it over to Colleen, tears started to flow out of Colleen’s eyes as she holds the flower close to her heart. Everyone was astounded to see her crying upon seeing the flower, as they were clueless of what is happening. Iris who thought that she did a terrible thing of showing the flower to her cousin, asked for an apology. But Iris was surprised when her cousin hugged her tenderly while telling her over and over again how she had made her very happy and that she is very thankful that Iris has given her that flower. Everybody was astounded to see that Colleen is finally smiling but was very happy about it. Now, the town has regained their hope.

When Colleen was finally left alone in her bedroom, she gazed intently at the flower as she reminisces the past. At the very same time, Adrian on the war was greatly injured as he drops to the ground. Because of this, he fell to the conclusion that it is his end and there is no more hope for him to be with his beloved Colleen. Until… he miraculously saw the very same flower that Colleen was holding currently, alive in the midst of war. He reached for it and held it also close to his heart as he too reminisces the past. Back when they were still children…

“Colleen, why are you crying???”

“My favorite flower plant died because my pet dog, Kirara accidentally trampled it just this morning.”

“That’s okay. Maybe we can plant another like it. I’ll help you.”

“But we can’t because that flower was a rare gift from my uncle who lived at the far north of this kingdom and I have no more seeds of it.”

As there was nothing else to do, Adrian left after cheering Colleen up a bit. Though it didn’t do much at all.

The next early morning, Adrian arrived at Colleen’s home with something he wants to give to her. Colleen, on the other hand, was still gloomy but when she received Adrian’s gift, she was more than happy. Adrian’s gift was after all, the plant in a pot, which bears the same flower Iris gave to Colleen.

“Where did you get this? It’s pretty!”

“Yesterday, after I left your house, I went into the forest. I remembered this flower, which I have came across upon when I went hunting with Dad before in the forest.”

“But you shouldn’t. You know very well that forest is a dark and dangerous place. You could have gotten lost or hurt and I can’t forgive myself to be the reason.”

“Actually, my mother scolded me when she found out but it’s okay. After all, I’m safe and you’re happy again.”

“You are such a one-of-a-kind bestfriend, Adrian.”

After reminiscing this, they were more determined to overcome all obstacles to be with each other again. Colleen stood up from her bed and went to do some chores with her renewed life. While Adrian used his last ounce of strength to stood up and continued his fight with a new strength. Both vowed to themselves that they would do everything in their power to be with each other again. They won’t lose hope anymore for their great love will kindle their hope to the greatest so as to be with each other’s arms again.

Thus, Adrian along with his fellow warriors succeeded in protecting their kingdom from invasion while Colleen got well from the illness, which once succumbed her to darkness. Everybody was more hopeful now for the two of them…

Especially when, Adrian finally arrived home from war to be finally with his beloved Colleen. And the promised wedding was made, as their promise of faith and hope never cease again.
