Judy (played by Elva Hsiao ), the youngest (born in 1980 right before the one child policy), is from a poor famiy in china, her dad works in the dangerous coal mines, her mom, a school teacher, is sick from aids from a blood transfusion 10 years ago. Her big brother is in jail (Jimmy Lin) for dealing drugs, her older sister is married and in Canada and seems to have forgotten about the family .
Judy just finished primary school, at age of 18, her tests were good enough for college,
she goes to college (shanghai polytechni shool) hoping to study and part time work hard to send some money home. but on the train someone stole all her tuition money for the 1st semester, now she is in ddeep shit.
her dorm roomate (cameo by Zhang Zi Yi) tells her idea to get money qucikly.
work part time as a Karaoke bar girl at the "Phoneix Club" in Shanghai. Since Judy is rather attractive (hey Elva!!) and has a good voice, so she works as a singer at the Phoenix Bar, and bar girl on the side 4 days a week (thursaday, friday and the weekends).
she learns she can earn more as a "BAO ER NAI". She finds meets an older swanky skanky Taiwanese bsiness man named "Tony" (played by Jack Kao)and becomes his "bao er nai"
Tony buys her a little apt. in shanghai, (which Judy uses on the Weekends) which is prety expensive, jelwerly and gives her money. Tony has a wife in Taiwan and children. He has 2 other Bao Er Nai's, one in beijing and ShenZhen.
Tony visits Judy 6 times a year on business trip. Judy sends the money back home. all the while she is sad about what she had done, yet she has little choice. her family doesnot know about her othewise, they would never accept her back.
Judy decides she'll do this for one year and will have enough saved to get out of this profession and focus on school, after all, she isnt the only college girl to do such things....college girl by day, bar girl by night.
