Seeing as twilight is one of the latest rage among teenagers and young adults, i shall skip the summary and simply post my personal comments about the movie and overall casting.

Personally, i never understood the whole craze over the twilight novels. Not only was the romance, cliqued, but also badly written and i did not felt much for the characters as they tend to be rather one-dimensional. Vampire novels have been around since decades and i have come across some excellent ones so i was really disappointed to realise that many of my friends were raving about the twilight novels. On a less harsher note, perhaps if you are the type who likes 'valley high' romance tinged with some melodrama in it, then i'll say twilight is probably you cup of tea.
The movie adapation was only alittle better than the novel but i guess there's only so much a director can do to improve it without drastically changing the entire plotline. In fact, it would probably have been much better if the director only retained the human-vampire romance element in the novels and simply change the storyline....

Casting:
No doubt, Robert Pattinson is a rather handsome actor and having seen him as Cedric Diggory in the Goblet of Fire, i was eagerly anticipating his performance in the movie. However, the whole 'pale as ghost' or shall i say chalky white makeup really did not do him any favours appearance-wise. The moment i saw him onscreen, i was screaming in my head that he should have fired his makeup artist.
Acting-wise, he did not leave much of an impression on me either. In certain scenes, i found him to be rather bland and stifled at times but i guess that's the fault of the novel because his character was just so one-dimensional.
His acting in New Moon was not much better either, mainly because his scenes were much lesser in comparision and once again, i can fault that due to lack of character development in the novel. Perhaps if given a more interesting character to portray, Robert Pattionson might actually do a much better job.

Kristen Stewart, in my opinion, is an actress who has a more sombre kind of beauty that probably fitted the part of Bella. But like i said, the character of Bella leaves much to be desired mainly because she spends half the time obsessing about Edward and his perfection, and wallowing in self-pity over her own mortality.
However, Kristen did bring out the intense part of the character well enough and i thought she did a good job in the sequel. Her bouts of occasional depression were believable and intense. But still, if the character of Bella had been better crafted, she would have really shone in her role.

During the whole course of the movie, i was left horrror-struck at how cliqued and flat the romance was. By the end of the movie, i was left wishing that Edward would just simply disappear and allow Bella to carry on without him. In fact, i think the reason why i preferred the sequel, New Moon, was because there were significantly less scenes of them together as compared to Twilight. Overall, i would only recommend this movie to those who are fans of the book series because if there was any one positive note about the movie, it did still entertain in some ways and was faithful (unfortuantely) to the source material.
