Foreword

Xiao Fei is a girl unlucky in love. One day a strange-looking salesman gives her a business card for a website that sells love robots. On the spur of the moment and without understanding, she orders one for a 3-day free trial. She forgets to return him before the deadline, and must work out some way to return the one million debt she owes without anyone discovering about this secret

Story/Introduction on characters

1. WangDong Cheng as Wan Nai Te
He is a robot but he has feelings. He often tries to please Xiao Fei by preparing her meals and protecting her. Missing her at home, he comes to work in her company. It is embarrassing for her when he keeps thinking that sex pleases her to undress himself. It takes him some time to get accepted.

Dong Cheng certainly can’t match up to Hayami Mokomichi‘s performance. He is more natural and perfect as the robot although their build is similar. Hayami is successful to make Night become more humane to shed tears for his beloved. This is what its creator can’t explain this and that is why the Japanese drama is more successful. It is a pity that Dong Cheng hasn’t got the skill and ability as yet. He isn’t as natural as the robot and I almost forget that he is a robot as he is too humane

2. Goo Hye Sun as Guan Xiao Fei
She often dreams of being loved and her wish comes true. However, she finds him a bother as he intrudes into her life. Later, she treasures him but he has fallen for Mei Jia after kissing her. Still, he has a memory that triggers to make him realise his mistake to return to her. However, he becomes faulty and she has to fight against the decision to choose either Nai Te or Zong Shi.

Hye Sun is a big disappointment. Who will believe that she is not popular with guys when she is so pretty? She frowns all the time and she keeps squeezing an innocent or helpless expression. She has repeated this for too many times and looks more like a robot to me than Dong Cheng. No wonder the Korean audience also complain about her acting.

3. Kun Da as Yan Zong Shi
He is Xiao Fei’s colleague working in the same company and is also her neighbor. However, this ungrateful woman often takes him for granted to get him to clean and cook for her. He is upset that she loves Nai Te. After knowing that he is a robot, he competes for her love as he knows that Nai Te can never grow old with Xiao Fei together although he has feelings now.

4. Xia Ru Zhi as Luo Mei Jia
She is Xiao Fei’s colleague and pretends to be her friend but she actually looks down on her. She tries to seduce Nai Te and is successful but only for a while. She is sore on how this plain Jane can get a dashing boyfriend. After Xiao Fei learns that she has been making use of her, she transfers to Tai Zhong to work.

5. Na Wei Xun as Lei Wu Wu
He is Ni Te’s creator and tries hard to save it from being condemned. Thus, he tries to prove its worth to Xiao Fei. He will find all ways to protect it from harm.

6. Xiu Jie Kai as Jun Shu
He is Nai Te’s rival – another scheming robot built to win over Xiao Fei. Nai Te has to compete with it and it proves very strong for it. It takes him a lot of effort to defeat it.

7. Wei Shi Shen as Yan Qing Shi
He is Zhong Shi’s younger brother who is indulged in food but never fails to tease his elder brother for liking Xiao Fei.

8. Xie Qi Wen as Supervisor
He likes to sit on the fence to see how the subordinates compete against each other.

Interesting facts

The two leads came to Singapore to promote the drama. They had a yacht ride but it had to stop abruptly as Hye Sun was seasick. They went to different homes and they had a pleasant surprise to meet them.

Wu Chun initially got the role of Nai Te. Probably feeling uncomfortable to have to bare so much skin after acting a few scenes, he recommended Dong Cheng to take over. Dong Cheng worked hard to have a six-pack figure and all envy him – even Kun Da.

Dong Cheng joked that Hye Sun could consider having him as her boyfriend many years later if they were still single. Hye Sun discovered that she had forgotten many Chinese words that she had learned when she was young and intended to take up the course again when free.

Most favourite character
None, all are stiff and no one stands out.

Most hated character
Same as above, the villains try very hard but none can make you hate them.

Song
The beginning song Mr Perfect is by Farenheit – perfect man which is easily forgettable. The ending song is by Dong Cheng – pretend that we have not loved before. It is more acceptable. In fact, I feel that he sings better than he acts. It tells how Ni Te feels to be dismantled and thrown away at the end of the world. I like the line ‘continuing to love me has no result but to get tortured instead’. His music tells more on how he suffers.

Conclusion

I don’t know why – the Japanese version ‘Absolute boyfriend’ comes to mind when I watch this drama. The title darling already makes my hair stand. The leads here have no chemistry. That is why it is a flop although they rope in popular faces as the leads. It is better to watch the Japanese version than this one.
