I think it's more like an epic based on early Chinese war history. The producer and/or director just added martial arts to make it interesting. I guess this way they can bring out the acting. Otherwise, it would end up as a historical documentary. But, but, the story was modified so much, it's like 90% fictional.

The Red Cliff trailer looks kool. Let's get on with the whole show already! Can't wait until July!?
