My Sassy Girl isnt a series, its a movie! hehe well anyways its a pretty good movie!
Its funny too!
Did u know USA is making a remake of it! I think its wont live up to the orginal one!
Who's starring in the Hollywood version of the movie??
I don't think the remake will live up to the original either, My Sassy girl was so so funny, it's not possible to replicate the comedic and romantic aspects of the show.
It was a very popular movie when released in 2001 ... boosted the prestige of korean film and encouraged the theatres to bring in more ... guess it helped to sustain the Korean wave in Asia too...
But remakes are seldom as popular ... The idea is not fresh anymore, the same story portrayed in a different cultural context may not work, and the producers of the remake may not be creative / daring enough to break out of the original's "success formula" ...
For my perspective, what made "My Sassy Girl" such a success was because it reversed the traditional images of the sexes in Korea (the woman was bossy & domineering while the man was obedient & submissive) ... A welcomed break from entrenched stereotypes ... But in US, without clear stereotypes of the sexes, will the same formula actually work?
I didn't watch the US-remake of The Ring, Dark Waters, and Ju-On because to me, these belonged to the "Asian horror" genre (ever since The Ring terrorized Asia and made us afraid to go to the loo for our midnight pee! And eyed all video tapes with suspicion...) The remakes looked pretty weird to me ...
P.S. I'm also very interested in the casting of the movie .....
