He said in an interview that he was on Tangren's ancient series blacklist (because of the shape of his face) so he wasn't originally part of the CP1 cast, but he went to the party on the first day of filming. When everyone else went off to filming, some people suggested that he tried on a bunch costumes to see if he could get a minor role for fun. And while he was trying stuff on, a minor actress who was also trying stuff on was like "You look like Li Xiao Yao!" and everyone else agreed that he looked like it. They gave him the part and cancelled the other actor who was originally supposed to play him.

Hu Ge has started filming for his new modern series, Gao Shou Ru Lin in Nanjing. Tang Yan will be his love interest. Looks like he and Tang Yan are going more into modern projects.
