that is not true. Admittedly it is easier to enjoy some adaptations where the plot is heavily altered, e.g. Flying fox 99, if you have not read the novel, but just because an adaptation does not follow the novel word for word, doesn't mean it is bad. in fact, i have never seen ANY adaptation that follows a novel WORD FOR WORD.
