But dont worry, I'm sure Willy will be found not guilty by the jury.
i tink the roald dhal had some underlying themes that he was trying to portray in his children books..they seem to go against the natural order of things..it is like the children haf greater authority somehow den the adults...ive not read that many of his books but the theme runs through those that i haf read like Matilda, George's Marvellous Medicine, The Witches, Willy Wonka...and all the stories are pretty screwed up if u realize...witches turning children into mice, matilda who in reality would have been unbearable putting super glue in her dad's hat..haha..
but willy wonka is fun still love all the chocolate there..haha..and tim burton likes things dark so i guess they do go hand in hand..in fact i tink that this version is much darker than the previous one as tim burton digs into the past of Willy wonka.

    whew tired..

I guess to enjoy Roald Dahl's books you have to forget the...hmm..."moral" or "realistic" stuff. Like for Chocolate Factory, I never once wondered whether it was wrong for Willy Wonka to invite children to his factory until people started mentioning it. Maybe we all need to be a bit more trusting sometimes But I do think Roald Dahl was hinting at the serious damage parents can do to children by spoiling them.

As for the movie...4.5 stars. Stuff I liked:
    1) Johnny Depp was fantastic as usual
    2) Freddie Highmore was good
    3) The set was absolutely beautiful
    4) The entire movie gave the feeling of 'book coming alive'. I've seen many great book adaptations before, but never got this feeling of 'seeing written things come alive' before.
    5) Brilliant, vibrant colours
    6) Sticking closely to the book
    7) The Oompa-Loompas...didn't like the look of them in the beginning, but eventually got to like them.

    Stuff I didn't like:
    1) Willy Wonka became a sarcastic, sadistic person in the movie. Book W.W. was a nice man who didn't like the children being harmed, but took it in a comical way.
    2) Adding in W.W.'s background, which, IMHO, was unnecessary.
    3) Leaving out the 'Square Sweets that Look Round'! I always wanted to see the square sweets that look round!
    4) Augustus Gloop's weird, Final-Fantasy-esque face.

But altogether, an excellent movie. Movie W.W. was different from Book W.W., but Johnny Depp played him so convincingly that it can be accepted. Definitely a movie I can rewatch

I watched this movie on the airplane. It's pretty entertaining and Johnny did a good job as Willie Wonka. Christopher Lee/Willie Wonka's dad didn't seem to age from the time Willie was a kid to when he grew up.
