Default Whom were the great martial arts manual written for?

Certain martial arts are meant to be passed down to progeny, and hence, they are written down into manuals to be preserved and transmitted down from generation to generation.

But whom did Wong Seung (the creator of the 9 Yum Jen Ging), the creator of the 9 Yeung Jen Ging, and the creator of the Qwai Fa Bo Deen write their manuals for? We know of no apprentices or descendants, and these manuals all ended up in the hands of people who were not directly connected to the originators. Obviously, the manuals were meant for someone because they would not have otherwise been written (the creators simply would have taken their knowledge with them to the grave).

When you create a great work, simple human ego will make you not want
to see it lost. You'll want it to stay on and have people remember you as
a genius. Even if it not widespread knowledge, at least some legacy is left.

Perhaps at the time nobody was appropriate to receive the arts. It would be a waste if it got lost. To have a manual and hide it somewhere would make it possible for a virtuous worthy one appointed by heaven to find it.

everyone knows that one will die one day. so why not take the risk of leaving something behind. if it's good, it's great. if it's bad, then let it be. the dead will not know.

It seems that it's part of the wuxia code to respect and preserve the martial work of others posthumously. We witness a good example in Xiao Ao Jiang Hu. When Linghu Chong discovered that cave on Huashan that contained the drawings on the wall made by the Ten Demon Elders that countered and defeated all Five Peaks Clans swordplay, he was tempted to destroy it in order to prevent future generations from learning them and causing harm to the Five Peaks Clans. However, he ultimately decided that it was not honorable to do such a thing, and their legacy should be kept, even though they were Demon Sect Elders. In hindsight, it would've been a good thing if he did destroy those drawings because Yue Buqun used them later to usurp control of the Five Peaks Clans when they merged.

    傅紅雪冷道,“現在你臉上豈非已經戴上了個面具?”

Maybe they wrote them down for themselves too. It would be quite tragic if you forgot a vital line somewhere along the line!
