one thing bad about this serial is that the fighting scenes always seem to be like a tornado approaching... cannot see who is fighting who.

For some reason, Singapore's ancient serials has to have at least one person with a bad perm.
Why are people only considered open-minded when they agree with your opinion?
Bad perm is OK. Bad acting is another matter altogether
If Fann Wong's hairstyle in ROCH 98 was bad, did you guys happen to see Evelyn Tan's turn as Lu Wushuang in that same serial? Ack. She looked as though she had a cinnamon roll plastered on her head. And she couldn't act. I hated her. Still do.
The 98 version had me cringing all the way. Couldn't stand Fann's acting. Christopher was OK, but I'd prefer either Andy or Louis as YG. Yvonne Lim and Shirley Ho (He Yongfang) were the only saving graces of the serial.
Someone mentioned Guo Fu. I also think that the 83 version with Liao Anli as Guo Fu was the best adaptation. I really hated Guo Fu then. And the 83 version is still my favourite.

I never see this version but IMO, nobody could be the worst YG as Richie Ren b/c at least, all other actors actually fit the handsome description of YG while RR looked so out of place (in mild term) not to mention that his acting made it worse.

And the four greats---were not that great. Poison is a little short to fit that part.

Yeah, I watched this series first and I prefer to see this series over TVB's ROCH 95. Even though TVB's Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu was better but I like TCS' supporting cast more. This series also have a really good theme & subtheme!

Junny - Fann Wong's hair style wasn't bad in ROCH 98, but she did look like a little 12 year old!
You know who had awlful hair style? The woman who played Li Mou Chou. What's up with that hairdo?
I've actually seen every single version of ROCH there is and I have to agree 100%! Richie Ren is ugly! I don't get why so many girls find him attractive?Originally posted by Goofy

No longer walking amongst the living...
I think the only reason they find Richie Ren handsome when he is singing. Well.. I don't really think he is hadsome while he is signing, but that is what my friend's told me.
Anyway, YPP is absolutely crazy about Richie Ren (don't know why. )
Are YPP and RR going out or what???
Richie Ren was only good in "Summer Holiday" and "Singing"
Please email me with questions. Do not use PM here.
and "Fly me to Polaris"
Actually...I think that was the only time that I ever liked him.....totally changed my opinion of him ever since.....I still don't think his acting and etc is too great but I don't really hate him for it anymore....

I just couldn't stand the fact that Chris was YG all along the series... you know... YG was about sixteen to eighteen when he left the Ancient Tomb and Chris was already acting as him then. But Chris's problem is that he looks waaaaaaaaaay too mature for a teenager. ><
I saw RR in modern clothes, and he looks all right, but he is just not born for wuxia hero role.
It would be different if he plays minor roles like waiter in a tea house...
the thing that gets me is that he never improves. His expression is the same and he lacks charismatic on screen. Those actors that couldn't act sometimes manage to look alright, but RR just zip in any area. Sorry for his fans to hear this.
Ma jing tao is another RR except he looks a bit better as a hero (provided he is not giving spaghetti hair)
If RR lacks expression, Ma has too much of it.
YPP seems to lack balance in her life. Her actors are often the overact or underact stars...

Do any of you guys know Fann and Chris's chinese names. I really need to know cause I plan on getting the series while I'm in China so the names are a must. It would be great if you could post it in Chinese cause lots of times the letter thing just dosen't work that well.
Thanx
Last year, I rented this series by accident, I thought it was the '95 version (TVB.) I was looking forward to watching Carman and Louis, and I saw Fann and Christopher. Fann does not have the look I imagined XLN to have. Chris is a bit better. But I don't like them overall. I should have known, it was called, "Than Dieu Tai Xuat." Yang Pei Pei really really ticks me off changing the name of the series so no one actually what they're getting themselves into. I also wasted money on "Dong Phuong Bat Bai." Which I thought was a different series but it turned out to be XAJH.

If you can see, hurray. If you can't... I guess I will leave the helping to the next kind person who passes by. ^^;;;Originally posted by crazy

HAHA, well, it's at least better than ROCH '95 where Louis played a 12 year old to his old age...not sure if this is correct; if i'm not correct, then Louis played 16 when he left the Ancient Tomb too, or did he play both? when he entered the tomb and left the tomb?

well, you're "someguy," so if you're a "guy," how would you find richie ren attractive unless you're G A Y. even though you can tell a handsome guy from an ugly guy, you're still not a girl (or are you?), so you dont' know what a girl thinks when she looks at him or a guy.
actually, in the 95 series, TVB increased Louis and others' age a bit. Supposedly, he was about 15-16 at the time of his first appearance to account for his adult look or that was I believed anyway. But it is really annoying to see they put a whisp of hair in front of his eyes to show his youth??? Also, Louis looked more like a mentally child with his acting childish.Originally posted by it'sme

I do prefer separate actors for the youth role and adult role like in 84 although the kid in it looked a bit too young.
