Personally, I think she looks prettiest in pics for Tokyo Juliet (never seen the series) and in some shots of LOCH. In ISWAK she looked nice in some parts, but not so great in others. Although she did have nice outfits...

I think her hair in Tokyo Juliet was cool..it was curly!! and she had the most marveling of all dresses..coz she's a student designer in the series.. the best of all was how she challenges Simon Yam.. thats what the series is all about..but I think from pics she must look the prettiest in ISWAK2. Love her unique looks..^^

Hahaha, I think a lot of Ariel’s roles haven’t been particularly “pretty princess” roles. Xiang Qin is definitely meant to be childish in dress and style, Xiao Feng is tomboyish, and Sui (in TJ) is probably the closest Ariel’s been to the “pretty princess” role.

I agree with Sparky… by Taiwanese standards and Ariel’s own standards, she was a *little* chubby at a certain point (the middle of filming for Tian Wai Fei Xian and during the TKA Guam honeymoon scene). It was because the guys (Hu Ge and Joe) kept inviting her to eat with them, and finally she said, “Aaaah, guys, I’m going to get plump if I keep eating constantly with you like this!” Haha, most of Ariel’s co-stars are big eaters – Joe, Hu Ge, Chun – Mike is one of the exceptions - and Ariel loves food, so it's hard for her to say no! And yeah, any tiny bit of extra weight seems to go straight to Ariel’s cheeks =( (I’m the same way).

Here’s a blog link from one of the moms whose kids were in TKA with Ariel… there are pics and one video in there. They’re really cute =) The mom/blogger mentioned that Ariel looks a little round on TV, but she’s actually very thin in person.

Rishi, she does look 'rounder' than other Taiwanese actresses, but that's what I also like about her. She portrays a healthy looking girl than a stick-thin idol. I hope she's not getting carried away with her diet though. She looks great with her new skinny figure, but not any skinnier than she already is now.

hi, red, you're welcome! Yeah, Ariel looks really pretty. I bet it's shocking for people who see real life Ariel for the first time after watching one of her series; she's such a chameleon in acting.

rishi, I agree, many of the TW actresses/celebs seem overly skinny. I think that's partly because of the Western vs. Eastern differences (for me anyway) and partly because they really are skinny, even by Taiwanese standards. Ariel's always been a healthy person (she practically glows!) who thrives on tough situations and seemingly impossible work schedules. Seriously, 1 hour of sleep a night for LOCH, 3 hours a night for TKA... how do you still look radiant on that little sleep?

Jilly, don't worry; her diet is done. She stopped at Chinese New Year and has gained back a little weight. She's really into the whole healthy lifestyle now - simple, healthy foods, taking the subway or walking (healthy for the environment), exercising on the treadmill, etc, and she wants to maintain a healthy medium weight (not too thin, not too plump).

why would people not like it? I recalled she did a good job portraying how tough her character is. Maybe because of the "over affectionate" kisses between she and Wu Zun? Honestly as I have said in several threads, I don't really care abt WZ since he's just a fellow Bruneian (I watch his series only for the female leads if I like them).. perhaps the chemistry wasnt that good compared to her and Joe Zheng, but I feel she really did her part winning Simon Yam in the finals. I didn't like how her father appeared to be such a weakling, and I didn't think the last part where she waited 3 years for WZ was significant at all to the story itself. I "sorta" liked the friendship between her and her girl-friend, whats her name? Pei Mei Zi, i think.. Too bad she had to lose to the other girl that WZ liked during his childhood.. She is a girl full of ideas. She also works hard, too in that series.. she had to stay up late nights while helping the rich man's son in the project..
I dont know about True Love 18 and Secret Garden, but Tokyo Juliet wasn't really intended as a romance drama. It's more of Ariel's striving for success, which she got in the end.

lol, to tell you the truth, I'm not watching TJ because it looks a little....er....over affectionate. Are there any r rated scenes/implied _____ scenes in it? I don't watch those. lol I guess I'm just too immature for them. It looks kinda iffy....plus, the plot looks really sad. I'd rather go for the funny cartoonish series like ISWAK

XWingSuki, I really like TJ, but I have to say, even though the original manga wasn't meant to be mostly focused on romance (it was supposed to be more inspiring), I think the director for TJ had a sort of different vision (from the manga). Ariel's acting is good and Wu Zun did well for a newbie, but it was kind of turned into a melodramatic romance. I liked the story of Sui (Ariel's character) struggling against all of the hardships - that part was definitely interesting - but I thought their were too many love rivals popping up everywhere throughout the series. The parts that made me love TJ anyway, though, were the storyline of Sui fighting for her dream and the chemistry between Ariel and Chun's characters - they were so cute! TJ isn't one of the best dramas out there, but I still love it.

red, there aren't any R-rated scenes in it, but there are a LOT of kissing/makeout scenes in it. There's one scene of them kissing on a bed, but they're fully clothed, and I think that's as far as it goes. The plot isn't really that "sad", per se, but it's very angsty, lol. Am I making any sense?

XWingSuki, most people don't like TJ because Ariel and Wu Chun keep arguing and getting jealous with each other, and Ariel also keeps fussing over her stolen design. I guess these melodramatic scenes overshadow the supposedly inspiring storyline.

Ariel Lin Yi Cheng (林依晨) in view of what has happened lately, also went for a full body check-up recently at a local hospital in Taiwan. And surprisingly, her diagnosis report also showed that she had heart mitral prolapse, the same ailment as singer, Angela Zhang Shaohan.

Ariel had went to the hospital on 12th March for a check-up and results released recently showed that she also had heart mitral valve prolapse. But unlike Angela, her condition is not as serious and doesn’t require an operation. Ariel said yesterday, “The doctors said I have a valve that’s slightly long, and if serious, I might have chest pains and feel breathless.”

“I was pretty worried at first but the doctor explanation was very detailed and said that many females have this ailment nowadays. The ailment will cause blood to backflow but my condition is only very slight and I do not have any symptoms of chest pains, breathing difficulties, etc now thankfully.”

One of the doctors at a Taiwanese hospital said that heart mitral valve prolapse is a common heart ailment and is especially prevalent among females who are young and have petite body figures. It’s understood that 20% of females above the ages of 20 have this ailment. Most do not require treatment however and keeping a healthy lifestyle will help to improve the condition.

Jilly, I just read the article, too, and I was a little worried. It's actually a fairly common disorder, but the good part is that it is usually harmless (people won't even know they have it until they go to the doctor for a checkup). (In Angela Zhang's case, she had a much less common serious type, where the blood pools in the upper left side of her heart and makes her more prone to infections and clots). Ariel seems to have the non-serious kind, because she said she hasn't shown any side effects. I like that she took the time to explain what the disorder was and how it usually wasn't serious, so that people wouldn't get too worried and so they'd know about it for their own knowledge and health, if they even encountered it again

@swimOh, I just wasn't into Wu Zun's looks because I just consider him as a fellow citizen as I have said; there's nothing special about people/actors from my own country. I hated him slightly when there were rumors on the entertainment news about him and Angela.
I would prefer Jiro as an actor, though..he strikes me in a way..cute and stuff. I enjoyed TJ; but I always like ISWAK because of the comedy in it. I didn't know TJ was a manga. I just know ISWAK was a manga coz it was uploaded onto Anikei.com (but I didn't get the chance to read it). and I heard about the main lead of ISWAK in Honey and Clover, a taiwanese adaptation of another japanese manga. Interesting~~ wonder why Japan doesnt really adapt their own mangas before Taiwan do. like for example, Meteor Garden has also japanese origin. but i could be wrong, please correct me.

I think ISWAK is Ariel's best series so far. Fairy from Wonderland is very good too, but I like ISWAK more because it's just pure hilarious. Japan actually did ISWAK adaptation first (10 years ago), but the Taiwanese version is more popular.
Yeah, Taiwan loves to make manga adaptations, from Meteor Garden, Poor Prince Taro, Peach Girl, Marmalade Boy, The Rose, Mars, Devil Beside You, ISWAK, Tokyo Juliet, Hana Kimi, SummerXSummer, Romantic Princess, Sweet Relationship, to the upcoming Honey and Clover. That's quite a long list!

And Ariel is Jiro's favorite actress, too At least, she was when this interview was done of FRH (they were asked about their fave actresses). The interviewer said that Arron (who wasn't there) said that Jiro liked Ariel (as his fave actress), and Jiro said something like, "I like Ariel...*laughter* no no, I mean Ah Jin liked." Basically, Jiro said it is very comfortable acting with Ariel because she is really hardworking and always preparing for her role, so other people are more likely to be absorbed into the scene when they're acting with her.

Swim, how funny... I also posted the same Jiro and Ariel picture on Jiro's thread last week! This is my absolute favorite picture (it's actually from Jiro's blog... taken during ISWAK promotion in Japan last year) coz they're my favorite artists (and couples too, although it's not possible since Joe is hogging Ariel's attention at this moment haha). Oh yeah, I've watched that clip before. It's so cute. I wonder if Jiro meant it when he said he likes *ahem* Ariel XD Anyway, I'm happy that many people praise Ariel's hardworking attitude and professionalism when working with her.
