    Default Wuxia vs. the supernatural

In wuxia fiction, powerful martial arts masters fight other martial arts experts all the time. For the most part, it's physical exchanges of blows from limbs and/or weapons, but with the elite fighters, it's more about battling with chi, which represents the human life force. The effects of this chi often seem, for lack of a better term, supernatural.

So how would the most powerful wuxia characters fare against actual supernatural forces such as ghosts or evil spirits? If it's conventional martial arts...that of fast punches, kicks, or weapons strikes...then it's pretty much useless because the supernatural exist on a incorporeal level that cannot be affected through normal physical force. Chi, however, is the manipulation of life energy...which the supernatural (if such things exist) are also composed of. Moreover, most of the elite wulin fighters with great chi skills such as Damo, the Janitor Monk, Central Divinity Wong Chung Yeung, and Cheung 3 Fung were individuals of great spiritual enlightenment as well as martial arts skills. Given their abilities, would they be able to successfully combat supernatural demonic forces?

Nah, the only person who can effectively kick demon butt is Buffy.

Zhang Shan Feng with a wooden sword and some charms of a Taoist could win over any ghosts or spirits.
As for Damo and Sweeper Monk: all they needed to do was just read aloud some sentences in some prayer-books, such as: Amituofo. etc.
No chance for supernatural forces at all. .

If we go by the idea that using a spell increases your proficiency and its power, then the Shaolin monks must all have a very high level in Amituofo

yeah, there's a kind of elite skill in 72 elite skills of shaolin called "a screaming lion" (shi zi hong????? pardon, i don't know the exact pinyin of this skill). as soon as monks used this skill together with their inner energies transfered in, spirits and ghosts wouldn't be able to withstand any longer.

Fighting ghosts and demons is the job of Ma Siu Ling.

If ghosts are remnants of life force (Chi) then i believe Linghu Chong can point his sword at one, making it lose it's life completely with the Chi breaking stance!
Burying his Dugu 9 Jian manual under an epitaph, Dugu Qiubai felt he has left his legacy for the next generation. He then moved to Shaolin to study Buddhism, sweep floors and tap elite fighters.
