In wuxia fiction, powerful martial arts masters fight other martial arts experts all the time. For the most part, it's physical exchanges of blows from limbs and/or weapons, but with the elite fighters, it's more about battling with chi, which represents the human life force. The effects of this chi often seem, for lack of a better term, supernatural.
So how would the most powerful wuxia characters fare against actual supernatural forces such as ghosts or evil spirits? If it's conventional martial arts...that of fast punches, kicks, or weapons strikes...then it's pretty much useless because the supernatural exist on a incorporeal level that cannot be affected through normal physical force. Chi, however, is the manipulation of life energy...which the supernatural (if such things exist) are also composed of. Moreover, most of the elite wulin fighters with great chi skills such as Damo, the Janitor Monk, Central Divinity Wong Chung Yeung, and Cheung 3 Fung were individuals of great spiritual enlightenment as well as martial arts skills. Given their abilities, would they be able to successfully combat supernatural demonic forces?
