Default Arranging fight locations at restaurants: irresponsible behavior by wulin members?

How many times have we seen wulin fighters make appointments to have fights at public restaurants? When Yau Chui Gei made arrangements for his disciple (Yeung Hong) and the Gong Nam 7 Freaks' disciple (Gwok Jing) to fight after the boys had reached eighteen years of age, the fight was to be held at the restaurant where he and the Freaks had first met (I believe it was the Drunken Fairy Pavilion). Similarly, later in LOCH, the Cheun Jen 7 Disciples and East Heretic Wong Yerk See agreed to hold their fight at the Misty Rain Pavilion restaurant.

This is pretty irresponsible behavior on the part of the wulin fighters, in my view.

By fighting at a restaurant, the lives of restaurant employees and patrons are threatened. Moreover, even if by some miracle, no civilians get hurt, there will almost certainly be damage to the restaurant. Even if that's somehow also avoided, the restaurant will almost certainly lose business as a result of the fight...gaining a reputation among the public as an unsafe location at which to dine.

I'm not talking about random encounters at restaurants that turn violent (for which at least one of the parties involved cannot be blamed), but when wulin fighters...especially those known as *heroes*, make such arrangements.

not really, they weren't only meeting for a fight. due to the 'niceities' that must be followed, the host has to provide a feast, in fact when the seven freaks inviting the jin experts, they used the term , meet for a feast to enjoy the moonlight and disscuss martial theories. as martial arts dignitaries, they can't simply make an ordinary meet for a fight. they have to show some class. it's unavoidable that a fight will occur at the resturant, but the damages can be paid for. and the staff warned away.

Look, when some hairy guy with a sabre/staff/whip comes in and across the table is a guy dressed in pure white with a sword/fan/judge pen. You _run_.

As stated by Kyss, the staff and onlookers won't hang around and you can still pay for the damages later.

Can you expect a 90 year old man and a one armed man to play ping pong with your patrons as balls?
Burying his Dugu 9 Jian manual under an epitaph, Dugu Qiubai felt he has left his legacy for the next generation. He then moved to Shaolin to study Buddhism, sweep floors and tap elite fighters.

    1. One armed

    2. Big sword

    3. White streaked hair at young age

    4. 90 year old man still walking healthy with imperious air

Man, all these are alarm signals in wuxia world!

Its like you have 1 old man, sitting and eating quietly with 2 young teenagers at a restaurant. If a bunch of beggars or soldiers barge in and walk up to _that_ table, you run before the head soldier/beggar even opens his mouth!

Interestingly, we never see them eat during these restaurant gatherings...just fight.

Maybe they could humor the restaurant owner and patrons by taking the fight *outside*.

But what if the restaurant owner was a great martial artist in jianghu who retired to enjoy peace and quiet?

He didn't get that white streaked of hair until after XLN didn't show up.

I agree with Ken on this matter. Even if you warn the patrons and pay for the damages, you have already scared away the customers and it will be very hard to bring them back.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

i'm not sure if i remember correctly, didn't the taoist priest break the staircase walking up to the second floor with the gigantic "ding", if not lots of merchandise damage then there is lots of structural damage.

On the other hand 18 yrs is a long time - how did they figure the restaurant would still be in business?

i guess if there were ever tv commercials in ancient times for insurance, it would be that of two groups of wulin fighters walking into restaurant carrying weapons.

    poor restaurant owners....

Fights in restaurants... imagine if some arrogant average fighter was just itching for a fight and walked up to a table with maybe people like HYS/Ah Fei(no specific novels) or any top level fighters? They are itching for a beating instead.

It happens alot. In fact, that's precisely the way Ah Fei was introduced in SENTIMENTAL SWORDSMAN, RUTHLESS SWORD.

Gu Long made a running gag out of this in LUK SIU FUNG: THE DUEL. Luk Siu Fung went to a restaurant called Chun Hua Pavilion in Beijing on about a dozen separate occassions during the two days preceding the duel between Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing. Not one time was he able to stay there for more than five minutes before trouble came looking for him.

Actually they provide entertainment for the other patrons.
People will gather to watch them fight, bring more biz to the restaurants.

Actually, in wuxia fiction, when restaurant diners see people walking in with swords, sabers, and other weaponry, they usually quickly pay for what they've eaten/drunk and haul their butts OUT of the restaurant before the fighting starts.

I still stand by my other comment - on why the heck did Yau Chu Gei think the same restaurant would still be in business at the same location after 18 years. So what happens when the location has stuff happen after long periods?

    For example:

Mount Wa gets government commission to build new temple.

The restaurant may fold, but the location will still be there. If, eighteen years later, the Drunken Fairy Pavilion Restaurant has become Fook Gei Blacksmith Shop, then that's where they fight.
