The problem with abbreviation

I come here just a few days. I'm always confused by all kinds of abbreviations according to cantonese, mandarin or english. Is there a official standard for the abbreviations? Can anyone make a list of the abbreviations, including the names of characters, novels and martial arts? That will be very helpful for newcomers like me.

Don't worry
After a while, you get used to it.
When I first came here, i didn't even know the full names of the characters in pinyin, let alone know them in abbreviations.
