^^I don't think we were supposed to see those pictures before these articles. The couple pictures of LSS were taken from visitors, and happened to be posted.

Like you said before, Karen is probably promoting ShiGe coupledom...And she will romance Hu Ge's WXB. Awww...poor Kangxi
LSS's statement:
“从来没有演过这样权威的角色,压力还是蛮大的,对于我来说也是锻炼的机会,希望这次可以突破自我,把不一 样的感觉呈现给观众。”
^^Probably feel more pressure to play Hu Ge's lover and not his sister anymore...

Hehehehe....yes, I know what she said in the statement. And yes, she played those roles, but was so so tiny. That's why I was thinking that it would probably be more of a challenge for her to play his "lover" for real this time(even maybe with a more intense scene in the game as lovers?)...lol. Just like when YH said during the CTW that it's easier for him to play villain roles/hero rather then being in a love entanglement, something like that
Even in Fantasy Zhu Xian, they said it felt like "incest" ...

She's starting to wear TONS more make-up in the recent fashion shoots and that Cooco press conference. Is Karen trying to craft out a more mature image for her, along with those recent power suits? Awww...that's such a pity. As Ailinon said, she has such a young, soft face. I thought that's the kind of face that looks better bare or with v.minimal make-up. I like her girly, not mature womanly.
Aside: I just realise Tang Yan is only 4 months older than LSS? She looks a lot more mature than LSS. I mean Tang Yan still looks in her swinging 20s, just more mature. That's what too many power suits do to you.

Oh good lord, whatever did they do to her face? If you want to emphasize the eyes, go for the eyes! They just managed to age her about 10 years here, what with the lipstick and the slathering on of blush on her cheeks (which are too thin anyways and don't need to be emphasized even more). Seriously, some magazine stylists have no taste at all, just going by what I've seen them put these younger starlets in recently (see also: TLY's dreadful barbie getup; I'll save my breath on YM's undies look, as I guess that's the clientele they were going for). LSS looks about a thousand times better in the weibo pics where she's wearing minimal makeup.
It's not that she can't take heavier makeup. I like the Maxi Quality Magazine pic just fine (will need to take a closer look). The ballerina bun works so much better, clean silhouette juxtaposed against the lavish makeup and clothes. It allows you to see her bone structure/shape of head/line of neck and shoulders, which was always where her strengths lay anyway, more than whatever was going on on her face.
Cool. This makes me look forward to the movie a little bit more than I had been. It's nice to see that she's taking the role seriously as an opportunity to push herself, to the point where she actually feels pressure from it, even if it's just a short adaptation of a computer game that looks silly to me. She's never been a top dog in any of her roles before; now let's see if she can project politically shrewd/powerful...LSS's statement:
“从来没有演过这样权威的角色,压力还是蛮大的,对于我来说也是锻炼的机会,希望这次可以突破自我,把不一 样的感觉呈现给观众。”
Thanks for the heads up. Feel free to just go ahead in the future, no need to ask.
Yeah, I know. Greedy ol' me wanted more analysis.I think NuDaFu did do a commentary on San Niang/LSS's Martial Arts moves in the GXYZM thread if you could find it
Well, it's not like I'm privy to the close backstage workings of the industry or anything, but you certainly hear discussions of the subject spoken of more openly than before. IIRC YM made a reference to this in one of her interviews, during the filming of the new Dream of Red Mansions. I don't even know what exactly she said--the YM fans may know the details--but she got roundly yelled at by people who thought she had no business even mentioning it (kind of hypocritical if you ask me, as that's all certain people gossip about online nowadays).Seriously, this [hidden rules] is still going on today?
[Edit: went and dug up the news (yes I have way too much time on my hands). YM mentioned that when she was starting out as an actress, one of her roles got switched at the last minute and went to the investor's gf; also that the new Dream of Red Mansions had people who got there through such "connections" (not v. wise of her imo; doubt her fellow castmates appreciated the speculations that followed...)]
In Korea, there was an actress who committed suicide recently and left a note talking about her experiences. I only saw the headlines but it's really a hideous case.

OoOh who's the investor's gf???
I like me.
Totally agree with you. Maybe the other mag shot, designed to make her look sophisticated, is still acceptable and presents a different side of her. But the Orange mag shot is borderline horrendous.
Don't think YM mentioned any names...
I think Tang Yan has also ever mentioned (and condemned) "underlying rules" regarding too-close-for-comfort transactions between actresses & directors after some unpretty actress (who was surly at being passed up for TV drama roles and refused to accept she just doesn't have it in her) alleged sexual harassment by a big shot CCTV director. See article as follows:

Awwwwwwwwwwweeeee....I guess I'm the minority here that liked all her fashion shoots so far, with the orange dress, yellow dress (yes, make-up and all..hehe), and the one in the Maxi...because these are different from her photo shoots from earlier years (which I found kinda boring).
I like the vibrant colors on her, very exotic and fresh looking..my own preference anyways
I think they were going for the fantasy-look with the yellow dress, which would explain the make-up. I doubt people would actually put on that kind of make-up and go about in public....hmmm, however, there are people out there crazy enough to do so....hehe
And ohh...LSS's COOCO mobile advertisement/commercial should start airing June 1st in China. Hope they downloaded the commercial on the internet too

It's very sad how the industry still works. And I admit, that YM probably shouldn't have said what she said if she wanted to avoid controversy. But YM's a very open, honest person, who doesn't hide her opinions all that much, which is something I love about her, though of course now, she's learned to keep quiet better.
But it's obvious that the actresses that succeed and end up respected are the ones who worked the old fashioned way to get there.
Tang Yan might only be 4 months older than LSS, but then again LSS always had that baby-face. For some reason, it's hard for me to explain all the different actresses' appeals. (I'm a person who loves many many, rather than focusing on just one) LSS looks young, but can at times look very mature. TY looks a little older, but very sweet and "young-old" looking. Am I even making sense?
Oh, and I hate to sound ignorant, but can someone explain Min Guo to me? I think I get the general idea, but I'd like to confirm it. I've seen the term in the YM thread too and would like to know.
Yang Mi, Liu Shi Shi, Tang Yan = my young golden three
Min Guo is the period immediately after the fall of the Qing Dynasty (1911) and continuing up to 1949 when the CCP took over (see http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/...ese-Revolution). It's probably the most traumatic, most chaotic but also most important period in modern Chinese history (think Soong Sisters). The men cut off their Qing pigtails, grew out their hair in that droolsome hunky short hair style on clean-shaven faces, but still wore their long Qing-Style Mandarin-collar outfits/"dresses" (I love this combo!). However, in Shanghai, the men wore Western outfits and the women wore sexy tight cheongsams while in other parts of China, they still wore their traditional Qing outfits. To a drama addict like me, Min Guo is when actors look their very hottest (just being my usual superficial self ) - examples: Huang Xiaoming in New Shanghai Bund, Wallace Huo in Detective Tanglang and New Twig of Plum, Nicky Wu in Sanctuary, Yuan Hong in Legend of the Double Dragons, Kevin Cheng in A Fistful of Stances. I think these actors look so hot and youthful in those Min Guo DRESSES!(yes, I'm so weird like that ).

Awwww...if Scotsmen can keep wearing their cute mini-skirts, why couldn't Chinese guys continue wearing these hot dresses?
Unfortunately, women in min guo dramas tend to be rather down-trodden, helpless, exploited and tragic. It was also a very decadent time in Shanghai, though those figure-hugging qipaos are breathtakingly gorgeous. So not sure whether any of you would want to see LSS in a min guo drama. But such dramas have such beautiful love stories as the couple always go through so much together - war, danger, chaos, suffering, exile etc. But so heart-rending though
Min Guo dramas actually do very well. Rouge Snow catapulted Wallace Huo to fame in China, HXM's role in New Shanghai Bund is his most acclaimed performance, Kevin Cheng's A Fistful of Stances was the highest rated TVB drama last year.
Hmmm...hard to explain. What I like about LSS is her youth aura which seems stronger than many of her peers - it may be due to her light, petite ballerina look, compared to Tang Yan who's model tall and sophisticated. Don't get mistaken about youth aura meaning "not mature". A youthful girl who's carefree/hot-headed at the beginning can go through plenty of life challenges which will mature her (in her mind and world perspective) at the end of the drama, but still exudes youth aura throughout. Example: Huang Rong's character in LOCH, San Niang's character in GXYZM. Am I making sense?

xiaolong explained it very well. And I absolutely agree, I really LOVE the costumes on both actors and actresses in Min Guo dramas, it's definitely one of my favourite time periods. It's really a mix of the traditional/old Chinese and the beginnings of more modern China. They usually involve lots of political stability, powerful families collapsing, war, rebellion, hot guys with guns...ahem. Min Guo dramas just have this "aura" to them--I can't describe it, but it's this beautiful, soft, melancholy vibe. Unfortunately, most of them are also very tragic. Which adds to their appeal and beauty, but I am a real sucker for happy endings so they leave me torn between loving how beautifully tragic they are, vs. raging at how unfair the world was and sobbing over the sad fate of characters I love.

She looks...mmmm....washed out? IMO she's always looked better in period costumes onscreen, although I do like her bespectacled look in modern day BBJX when she slapped MTY (oooh, why am I obsessed with that scene ) But I remember the Next Miracle story arc is about her pursuing some guy called Rocky whose heart is with another woman and he only comes together with her at the end? And her name in this movie is Jiayi I much prefer to see guys to chase her or at least have mutual love.
