Want to know what I thought about Shi Shi when I first saw her? I hated her. I couldn't stand her dead eyes and terrible speech patterns. I hated her in Young Warrriors. I hated her in Lu Xiao Feng. Well...I didn't hate HER, I hated that she couldn't act. BUT I fell really hard for her in White Snake II as Yi Shuang Shuang.

I never saw White Snake (didn’t think I could sit through the storyline). On the surface, it looks like another one of those demure sad roles, right down to the unlucky-in-love angle. What was it about the way she played the character that changed your mind about her, TmE? How was the portrayal distinct from earlier roles like Luo Si Niang or Mu Nianci?

OT: A lot of fans find this her most beautiful role appearance-wise. From stills, I thought she looked so thin that her cheeks looked bony (miss her round face circa LOCH/Liao Zhai era), and the heavy hairstyle would sometimes overwhelm her face. The flowing wide sleeves do suit her perfectly, though.

I love ADY, I HATE DONG ER.

To me, the only Dong Er there is, is Gong Li. End of story.

Oh my, the pledge sounds very CCP. Hee Hee! I'm wondering with a slew of press events and photoshoots together, Tangren's promoting HG-LSS coupledom ahead of Tian Zhi Hen?

The thing about sedate roles is that they really need good writing to come alive; at the same time, the farther you get from the extremities of fiction and closer to real life, the tougher it is to make a character memorable.

Really? I know you're gonna bash me for saying this, but I thought her MNC was very memorable, even more so than Shui Ling who's an A-lister (just being objective *hide* ).

The thing with Tangren is their tendency to build up the BTS persona. Too bad it's in LSS' natural DNA to have a sweet vulnerable demeanour, but that's the main reason why we all love her and want to protect her, don't we?

I am actually a HUGE Ariel Lin fan haha. I mean that I love her as an actress. And as a human being. AND I think Ariel Lin also does not have an acting back ground and is just working with natural talent.

Yeah, Ariel didn't have any performance training whatsoever. She got discovered after taking part in a variety show when she was a 1st year uni student.

No, I won't. The first time I'd ever seen LSS was during filming of LOCH08, when they released pictures showing the actors modeling for the characters. Her 氣質 was so unique to me--that fragile yet steadfast quality--that I've always remembered her since. (This is coming from someone who hardly ever falls for an actor just from pictures; usually I need to see them in action first).

I was only able to see parts from both the '03 and '08 versions, not the whole thing. What strikes me about her MNC is just how young the character was, where Shui Ling was more sophisticated. And she looks so good with YH’s Yang Kang, I’m sure you’d agree.

That said, I can’t speak for everyone: she did get the nickname 木姑娘 (Mu as in wood, play on the last name 穆) for the role, it cannot be denied. The script was such a mess anyway, her rawness and stiffness really showed through. The whole conspiring to murder Ouyang Ke thing didn't help, either.

I think personally that Shi Shi's personality is a little bit bland and [I am assuming here] that she seems to be of some privileged.

Not much is known about LSS’s family, I don’t think. We know about her academic background and how she got into acting, but not what her parents do. I get the sense she's close to her mother.

Lol, I see she hasn't improved her public speaking skills. You know, there tends to be a template for actresses in China, just as there is one for Hollywood starlets. LSS’s shy and gets tongue-tied in public, but has a tomboy side (Ma Tianyu has said she’s fearless) and is goofy backstage. She looks delicate on the outside but has the most hilarious laugh. Half the time I forget she’s actually a celebrity.

Yes! It's a hint that Tian Zhi Hen's start of filming date is near, but they didn't say when. They will be setting up an official weibo soon (I guess).

At least we know it isn't affected by the recent clampdown on mythology on TV/movies.

The character of Dr Luo was just terribly executed and wooden. Her ultimate situation was terrible but I didn't feel that bad overall for Shi Shi here. Mu Nian Ci, oh gosh, that script with her was just too much for me. Beside, I loved Ouyang Ke and was just furious that she was an accomplice to his murder. The character of Shuang Shuang was classy, elegant, and but also down to earth at the same time. She never blamed anyone for her unfortunate station in life and did not hold on to a lover that couldn't man up. I really just felt such a connection to this character.

To tell you the truth, despite being a rabid DongShi (Peter & LSS) fangirl, I totally didn't care for LSS' presence in Young Warriors at the first viewing. It was only after I watched LOCH08 that I became a fan of hers and went back to re-watch her scenes in Young Warriors. Agree that LOCH08's script for MNC was downright terribly flawed. The YK & MNC of LOCH08 are widely known to have embodied the look, exuberance and youthful spirit of the book's characters, but their script was very badly written/adapted. It's the type of series with an awesome cast but lousy script. I already aired my fair share of grouses over the bad script at wuxiasociety forum.

Actually, I feel NONE of YH-LSS' two onscreen couple stories were well written at all, with Tian Ya the worst scripted worst edited couple story ever in history. IMO all the rabid HongShi fandom comes solely from their natural sync with each other despite having to act out extremely bad scripts. LGX-SN and Shuang Shuang-Bao Ren's couple scripts were much much written better in comparison. In fact, YH & LSS can come up much better impromptu scripts for themselves during media interviews than the drivel Tangren gave them in LOCH08 & Tian Ya - re their hilarious skit with Janine in Nanning.

This is why I found her so adorable. During press conference and interviews she appears serious, mature, and shy....but yet she have that playful and girlish side of her that's fun to watch in the BTS clips, so I didn't think her personality was bland at all...

Tian Zhi Hen is not the same as Paladin 5 is it? There's a conference on April 28th for Paladin 5. LSS's name was attached to the news, but not sure if she have anything to do with the conference.
