    Default How does music affect your study habits?

    Just curious, what sort of music do you listen to while you study, and why? Do you think listening to different music or no music at all improves/makes studying worst?

    For me, I like to listen to classical music while I study, if I listen to music at all. I like it because its sort of like background music to me and I can focus on what I need to study. I can't understand how some people can listen to hard rock while they are studying because it's just so loud!

    I listen to pop, soul, rnb, hip hop, etc. and it helps me study
    Sometimes it's hard to love someone because you're so afraid of losing them.

    Why? How does it help? Personally, anything that has people actually singing in it distracts me sooo much! I will eventually feel like singing along and my mind gets all scatterbrained

    Anything without lyrics, or without lyrics in the same language as I am reading, is fine. I remember listening to English songs while studying in English and all my mind was registering was the lyrics.. with Canto pop somehow the brain compartmentalised the different information into different sections, and with classical it just gave a very relaxing atmosphere.

    i can only work properly with classical music on (not my playing, though i can listen to a friend of mine's recordings which are usually very good)

    pop/rock/rnb/spcnet are all distracting. Maybe except What Child Is This. That one is ok for study

    Really? Well, if I were still studying I'd save a copy of it then... I'm way past that age, though. Besides, I'd have trouble listening to that unless I'm reading something in Chinese, but my Chinese is weak enough that I'd need to really concentrate to read. Maybe a Chinese comic.

    I dont specify. I either turn the TV on where they show MTV all night after 12AM, or I'd just turn on my winamp. I dont get distracted easily, so language doesnt pose any problem all. I just need some noise so that i dont doze off while studying...

    I simply cannot study with music on (especially songs with singers) because the lyrics/noise interfere with my concentration on the study material.

    i guess it has to do with my rebellious character ... haha .. when everyone is studying at the library, i don't. when no one is studying in a coffee shop, i concentrate full force.

    er, music is fine when it doesn't involve any memorising for me.. if it does, has to be quite faint.. when I'm doing a report or just reading superficially, then yes, music is definitely ON

    I used to listen to the Beatles for hours on end while studying. First, their music kept me in one place instead of wandering around. Secondly, the progression of their music from simple in their early years to complext in their later years really stimulated my mind, and their dedication to creating great music inspired my dedication to writing great essays.

    Music distracts me from studying. In fact, anything that makes noise will be a distraction. Computers and tvs are distractions too. @.@;

    So I'd always need a quiet place to study at eg. the library.

    Same! But then, the library is always packed and noiser during exam periods!
    I like to study alone in my room late at night when it's dead quiet as well But then, my lappy is always there to lure me And sometimes..there's the beethoven-wannabe (sadly and annoyingly, the only thing similar abt them are their sense of hearing) playing aloud in the opposite blk

    Ironically, school is probably one of the best place to study and revise.
