Paris Hilton "Crying" Behind Bars

CBS) A teary-eyed Paris Hilton received two visitors in jail yesterday, her lawyer and a shrink, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

Defense lawyer Richard Hutton and Dr. Charles Sophy were visitors at the facility for two hours, the paper said, as the hotel heiress seems to be struggling with incarceration.

A lawyer who is representing two murder suspects staying in the same ward as Hilton told the newspaper, "They can hear her crying a bit."

"She came out of her cell to make a phone call. She's not used to making collect calls and she needed help. A sergeant had to help her," the lawyer said, adding that inmate 9818783 had been "friendly" with other inmates.

The Web site TMZ reported Tuesday that the heiress has been crying on the phone and is not sleeping or eating.

Sources told the Post that Hilton was spared from a body cavity search upon her arrival at Lynwood.

"Paris didn't have to go through the cavity search. When bent over, she didn't have to cough," said Saul Reyes, who does maintenance at the women's jail as part of a work-release program. "She didn't have to spread 'em."

Sources said that the inmate enrollment process that usually takes 24 hours, took Hilton an hour.

"All the inmates waiting to be processed were taken into a temporary holding cell, and Paris was brought in and booked quickly. The inmates taunted Paris for getting special treatment," a bail bondsman told the newspaper.

And, luckily for Hilton, a soda machine was installed in her ward the day she arrived.

Apparently, someone from the outside tried to cheer Hilton up yesterday. The Post reported that deputies turned back two deliverymen carrying a dozen red roses and a fruit basket with apples, oranges and a pineapple for Hilton.

The care package included a card that said: "I hope you're OK. Call me when you can. Don't feel bad, remember you're Paris Hilton." It is not known who sent the package to Hilton.

But on the unlucky side of things, "Inside Edition" reports that the Lynwood jail is rife with staph infection, with over 402 inmate diagnosed last year alone.

For every 1,000 inmates that enter Lynwood, 13 will contract some version of this infection, the news show reported.

So, Paris's medical problem is she's not eating and sleeping?

Maybe the medical problem is a psychology one. Couldn't be staph infection, could it?

Update. Further news has confirmed that Paris's medical condition is indeed psychological not physical.

She was 'in peril of having a nervous breakdown'.
Word was passed to the Sheriff that Hilton's mental state was 'fragile and she was at risk'. So, the LA Sheriff Department released her early.

But the case is not over yet. Apparently, the Los Angeles City Attorney has filed a motion asking the judge who sentenced Paris Hilton to have her returned to jail to serve out her full sentence.

The one article which made sense to me about this whole 'special treatment bullcrap' was that the Sheriff's Dept. just wanted her out of their hands ASAP. With her in custody, they were scared of getting sued for anything from mistreatment to negligence (e.g. if another inmate did something to her) if she breaks a nail in there.

Given how litigation happy the USA is, I can understand the stress the poor Sheriff is facing!

Screaming Paris Hilton sent back to jail

Paris Hilton was taken from a courtroom screaming and crying Friday seconds after a judge ordered her returned to jail to serve out her entire 45-day sentence for a parole violation in a reckless driving case.

"It's not right!" shouted the weeping Hilton. "Mom!" she called out to her mother in the audience.

Hilton, who was brought to court in handcuffs in a sheriff's car, came into the courtroom disheveled and weeping. Her hair was askew and she wore a gray fuzzy sweatshirt over slacks. She wore no makeup and she cried throughout the hearing.

Her body also shook constantly as she dabbed at her eyes. Several times she turned to her parents, seated behind her in the courtroom, and mouthed, "I love you."

She had been brought to court in sheriff's custody today for a court hearing on her early release from jail after back-and-forth decisions on whether she could participate by telephone from her home.

Hilton, appearing to be in handcuffs, cried after she was placed into a black-and-white patrol car, which sped away from her home with lights flashing as news helicopters pursued, broadcasting live TV coverage.

The car carrying her disappeared into the courthouse's underground parking lot, avoiding a swarm of news media, and her parents then arrived.

In the hearing, which began at late morning, a judge was to listen to the city attorney's complaint that the county sheriff did not have the right to reassign her to electronically monitored home detention after only three days in jail for violating probation in a reckless driving case.

On Thursday, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered that Hilton be brought to Friday's hearing. But early Friday a court spokesman announced that she would be allowed to participate by telephone, which is common in misdemeanor cases. Then, in a reversal, the spokesman said the judge had ordered the Sheriff's Department to pick her up and bring her to court.

The frenzy began early Thursday when sheriff's officials released Hilton because of an undisclosed medical condition and sent her home under house arrest. She had been in jail for three days.

Hilton was fitted with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and was expected to finish her 45-day sentence for a reckless driving probation violation at her four-bedroom, three-bath home.

The decision by Sheriff Lee Baca to move Hilton chafed prosecutors and Sauer, who spelled out during sentencing that Hilton was not allowed to serve house detention.

Late Thursday, Sauer issued the order for Hilton to return to court after the city attorney filed a petition demanding that Hilton be returned to jail and to show cause why Baca shouldn't be held in contempt of court.

Baca does not have to be in court, and it was unclear who would represent the Sheriff's Department.

The move also was met with outrage from the sheriff's deputies union, members of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, civil rights leaders, defense attorneys and others.

"What transpired here is outrageous," county Supervisor Don Knabe told The Associated Press, adding he received more than 400 angry e-mails and hundreds more phone calls from around the country.

Hilton's return home "gives the impression of ... celebrity justice being handed out," he said.

Baca dismissed the criticism, saying the decision was made based on medical advice.

"It isn't wise to keep a person in jail with her problem over an extended period of time and let the problem get worse," Baca told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

"My message to those who don't like celebrities is that punishing celebrities more than the average American is not justice," Baca said.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown criticized the Sheriff's Department for letting Hilton out of jail, saying he believed she should serve out her sentence.

"It does hold up the system to ridicule when the powerful and the famous get special treatment," Brown told The Associated Press in an interview before testifying at a congressional hearing in Washington, D.C.

"I'm sure there's a lot of people who've seen their family members go to jail and have various ailments, physical and psychological, that didn't get them released," he said. "I'd say it's time for a course correction."

The Los Angeles County jail system is so overcrowded that attorneys and jail officials have said it is not unusual for nonviolent offenders like Hilton to be released after serving as little as 10 percent of their sentences.

In the hours after Hilton's release, it was a madcap scene outside her house in the hills above the Sunset Strip. As word spread that the 26-year-old poster child for bad celebrity behavior was back home, radio helicopter pilots who normally report on traffic conditions were dispatched to hover over her house and describe it to morning commuters. Paparazzi photographers on the ground quickly assembled outside its gates.

Shortly before noon, Hilton issued a statement through her attorney.

"I want to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and staff of the Century Regional Detention Center for treating me fairly and professionally," she said. "I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence. I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes."

Hilton's path to jail began Sept. 7, when she failed a sobriety test after police saw her weaving down a street in her Mercedes-Benz on what she said was a late-night run to a hamburger stand.

She pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

In the months that followed she was stopped twice by officers who discovered her driving on a suspended license. The second stop landed her in Sauer's courtroom, where he sentenced her to jail.

I don't, she's no different than any one of us, if it was us it would be more time in the slammer............................... She needs this to put her in check, just because her folks are loaded and she's a celebrity she thinks she can do anything she wants with no consequences. $$$$$$$ can't get you out of everything, hopefully she will learn while she is incarcerated. Hell she could have seriouslly injured someone while driving drunk.............................

I mean, it is not a laughing matter or an in your face- feeling i have for Paris right now. It mean, it isn't a laughing matter to see someone in tears. But through it all, I think she deserved it. I think her sentence is already light. I hope after this she should reflect on herself a bit more

Yeah and just like any normal person if they were going through 'hell' I'd feel sorry for them too. I guess it's worst for Paris since she's never been responsible for anything in her life. This is what happens when parents fail to teach their kids properly.

lol house detention on medical reasons? do they give a damn if it's other prisoners with the same thing? all i know they get cuffed and stayed in the hospital, ive never heard of anyone getting house detention just cuz he/she's sick! Boo to Baca good thing they sent her back to where she belongs

I concur! It's sickening to think that the States of California is wasting so much tax dollars on this bratty child. "Mom, Mom, Mom" this is a cry of ****ing child not a dignified grown up who is ready to take full responsibility for her actions. If she'd served out her sentence and showed that she's contrite, then perhaps, I would extend her a little bit of sympathy. But after this farce episode, I'm so just disgusted with her and her mother.

The sheriff's defence is BS. Prior to this, I had never heard of any prisoners being allowed to spend the rest of their term at home just because they have psychological problems. They are usually moved to a less harsh prison environment.

Is this celebrity treatment? I'd say 'yes'.

Paris jail stabbing hoax

A SHOCKING hoax e-mail which claims jailed heiress Paris Hilton has been stabbed multiple times by a digruntled inmate has begun circulating in Australia.

The hoax report features on the viral website www.omeletto.com and uses realistic CNN banners and livery in an attempt to fool the unwitting reader.

The world has been quick to put the boot in to the celebrity heiress since she was sent back to prison on Friday, but this latest attack is the most vicious so far.

In the report, the story quotes "unnamed sources from within the Lynwood medical ward" saying that "Paris received two wounds to the chest, one to the back, one to the throat and three to the abdomen. Although her condition has been stabilized (sic), surgeons are pessimistic about a full recovery. Their main concern being that the puncture to her back may have severely damaged her spinal cord."

The website describes the weapon used in the stabbing as a shank made from a grinded down metal ruler.

A "guard" is quoted as saying, “She probably had it coming.”

The report ends by taking a final swipe at Hilton's singing career.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County - Sheriff's Department, Twin Towers Correctional Facility told NEWS.com.au that the claims made in the report were false.

"You're the first person to ring on that one," the spokeswoman said. "(Paris is) fine."
