Default Language & the sexes or why men don't read the instructions.

"Ask a woman for directions and you may hear something like: "Turn left on Main Street, go one block past the drug store, and then turn right, where there's a flower shop on one corner and a cafe across the street."

Such information-laden directions may be helpful for women because all information is relevant to the abstract concept of where to turn; however, men may require only one cue and be distracted by additional information."

I have long realized this and have changed the ways I give out directions... based on whom I'm speaking with.

For girls, I only mention big street names and then give abstract information the rest of the way.

"At the 3rd light, make a left."
"Keep going until you see a Kroger on your right, then make a right at the very next street."
"Slow down because you're close. When you see a Gap store, turn right into that shopping center."

Guys, I give it like a map.

    "Turn left at [this] street."
    "Turn right at [that] street."
"Turn into the shopping center.. it'll be on your right."
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

    Thumbs up

Ahh, the women's instructions would drive me nuts!
But it's good to know how they think.

well, i guess that's how different men and women are....opposite ends of the continuum

you know, the guy who wrote 'Men are from Mars, and women are from Venus" should consider replacing Venus with Pluto in the next edition

BTW, is Pluto still a planet or not

I think like a guy too. Can't stand abstract instructions.
