Do you really think it's that easy? MA fights are not always about killing each other; many times martial artists are interested in seeing how good the other person's MA is, so they use MA responsibly. Now, with soldiers, all bets are off. You're trying to kill each other using any method possible. Shaolin monks are not trained to kill but soldiers are. The monks have that disadvantage.

But your example of Juxian Manor, all martial artists were there to kill.

Shaolin Monks may not be trained for killing but they are no less deadly when needed.

indeed. Look at Ah San and Ah Er. and not to mention the DU monks. They were like all out to "defeat" ZWJ during the first encounter. I am not going to get involved in this tread. LOL. Still remember what happened between PJ and me with regards to the 72 arts.

Du monks were out to defeat him but not necessarily to kill him. In fact in their third encounter it was mentioned that they had no intention to harm him. As for the 3 flunkies it's a different stories, since they're hardly true monks at heart.

They've got no intention to harm him but any mistake or damage to ZWJ would be extrememly harmful, even deadly.

Yeah, but it's all just martial arts. Fighting soldiers is different.

No, it's often more dangerous. Martial artists are trained to fight other martial artists, but they aren't trained to fight soldiers.

A martial artist fighting a mass of soldiers is just like a martial artist fighting a mass of martial artists, but just easier and less expense of internal energy if using a weapon.

Tsui Yin Manor aside, wulin warriors seldom found themselves in situations wherein they personally had to fight more than a handful of opponents at the same time.

But in the first encounter, my impression is the Du monks kill anyone at sight, this includes ZWJ, who got a silent ambush before the fight started. That three smelly monks in fact killed Kunlun sect masters because they appeared around the XX captive area. They even nearly killed Yuanzhen when he escaped the place after the first fight between ZWJ and the Du monks ended.

If you read the latest posts in the HSDS thread Jin Yong used one of his main supporting characters to explain why Martial Artists cannot fight an army specifically, Abbott Kong Wen.

    Thanks. According to the passage.

Kong Wen continued, “However, we are Jianghu’s warriors who are accustomed to fight one on one; if not using a blade or fists and kicks, then using internal energy and secret projectiles. We are not experts in fighting on horseback or using long spear and double-ended lance. In Laoseng’s opinion; how about the heroes go down the mountain and disband?”

But still I think theres no reason why two Xuan Monks can't get themselves out of trouble when needed.

I think we are losing our focus here a bit. Back on topic. 72 Arts- overrated?
