Maybe more of a case of asking for trouble.

Here's what I've found: According to quantum nuclear rocket scientists from the Department of Literature of the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology, that hand gesture was first used by Qin Shi Huang in 221 BCE right after he had conquered the last independent Chinese state, practically putting an end to the Warring States Period. Getting excited from having become the first man in history that had ever been successful in unifying China, Qin Shi Huang extended the middle finger of his right hand and pointed it to the sky, bent the other 4 fingers into the palm, then sreamed loudly: "I AM NO.1 UNDER HEAVEN!". The only extending middle finger, which looks like the word yi1 (one) ( - ) in Chinese, was used to imply that he was second to none and was the very center of the universe. As time went by, that gesture bit by bit became more popular among both civilians and martial artists in China. In 1264, Marco Polo, a famous Italian trader and explorer, arrived in China, he found the middle finger extending gesture very interesting. Therefore, several years later, after he had gotten back to Europe, he popularized the gesture in European countries. Due to the expansion of European Colonialism beginning in the 15th century the gesture became famous all over the world. Its original meaning however was altered to a significant extent and became quite dirty and vulgar.
Lol is that for real? I'm so touched that thats another honour bestowed upon the Chinese. We invented the middle-finger gesture.
