Default What do you consider your greatest accomplishments?

Have you climbed Mt. Everest? Saved puppies from a burning building? Donated your spleen to an orphan?

Or maybe you paid your own way through college without help from your parents? Or married that girl you've been in love with since kindergarten?

Or simply found out who the a-hole was who was eating everybody's lunches from the communal fridge at work?

What do you consider your greatest accomplishments, and why?

I am proud of myself for achieving what I'm now which is most of the time alone. My parents divorce after my mother gave birth to me, mother re-married and leave me with my father. My mother never ever try to look/locate me after that. My father died in front of my eyes in an accident involving both of us when I'm 3 years old. I survived. I'm then pass on between relatives to be taking care off which none of them ever willing to accept me like their own son.

When attend Uni, none of my relatives wants to be responsible, I have to do part-time job at campus cafe, cleaning and all sorts of job during the night in my first year for subsistence and later on doing various job until I finish Uni. All on my own. Luckily I got student loan which help a little. So yeh, that is my greatest accomplishment and I'm very proud of it.

When I told this story to my student (yeh I'm a University Instructor now immediately after I finish BSc) about this, most just can't believe it. It's like a story that is being taken directly from a drama or something.

I remember in one of my classes one year, we had to write about our life, and then our assignments were read by others in the class (anonymous obviously). When I read through a lot of other people's lives, I can only say that even though I may have gone through some "bad" things in my life, it's always inspiring to see those who have truly suffered and come out of it and personally, I don't think any of my achievements are that worthy of mentioning. I've reached some goals and went through certain harships, but those are all just what makes me who I am and isn't that noticeable.
    Because I'm somewhere in between,
    My love and my agony.

That is why I seldom told this story to others, most of the time people just cried while I'm just laughing it out to forget all those bittersweet life experience. But I guess I should share it as an inspiration to others. That whatever the difficulties that you have to endure in front of you to achieve something so valuable, you just have to do it, whatever it takes .

I lived in KL before coming to Australia, but my dad's side of the family lives in Penang. That trip was after I finished high school before going to uni.

Yeh, I understand, taking care for yourself for the first time is a very hard thing to do if you never do it before.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I was a shy underachiever up to my late thirties. Then I went from truck driver to cab driver to Instrumentation Tech to Instrument and Control Systems engineer. Definitely a late starter.

Wow, truck driver!!??, how is it the experience, driving long hours on the road alone. Did you pick hitchhiker and put them in the fridge at the back, ok bad joke - hehe - (j/k)

Any scary or interesting experience as truck/cab driver?

I saved an old lady who couldn't breathe because her oxygen tank ran out.

To be stalked by pemberly, which is quite flattering given that she's a double-D working in the marketing industry.

My greatest accomplishment so far is to have done nothing remarkable at all.
