Sometimes, you just have to take a stand and fight because if you don't, people will walk all over you and take command of your life.

Can you two be more specific on which asians are being pussy? There are are lot of different asian ethnicities. Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Cambodian, ect... Even for each nationality, there are a lot of different ethnics. For example, the Teochew, cantonese, shanghainese, Beijinger, manchurian, tibetan, ect... are all chinese but they are not the same. From what I see, asians bully each other pretty badly too. Some ethnic asians tend to think they are more superior than other ethnic asians.

Anyway, I disagree with you two. I think back away from problems is being wise than pussy. Usually, those punks are useless piece of siht. It's not worth it to put ourself down to their level.

This phrase is closer to your meaning than the 2nd phrase.

    退一步海闊天空

I think the whole phrase just means 'don't let your anger get into you and start a fight'.
I use the right phrase that is 退一步海闊天空.
Your first phrase is not bad either.

All of them, especially the Teochew.

Since we're into fancy old sayings in this thread, have you ever heard of "making a virtue of necessity"?

    It's not particularly admirable.
"Anything you can't say NO to is your MASTER, and you are its SLAVE."

"I disapprove of what I say, but I will defend to the death my right to say it."

Despite Teochew people are being a small minority in China and worldwide, we have very high rate of success everywhere we go.

Having a little bit of money doesn't make you less of a pussy. In fact, the biggest pussies among Asians are the well-to-do Asian yuppies.

I think that applies to yuppies in general. But maybe that's just my own prejudice.

退一步海闊天空 means that you can't see the whole situation when you are in the middle of it. The example I always use is that when you are inside a forest, you can only see a few trees, but when you step out of it, you can see the whole forest.

Oh that's definitely true, it's not an Asian thing, but the topic was about Asians.

Selfishness is not one of the virtues that the ancient chinese expound. So, I doubt the phrase meant that.

When need to, let the other person wins. Unless it will bring harm to the person or you or both.
So, taking a step back ethically is good advice.

Let me get this straight. This whole thread is basically about whether or not we should start a fight? Am I right or a long way off?

I don't see the logic in that. Why is it ethically good advice to take a step back?

I think you should never take a step back unless you have to (or forced to). Meaning that there will be even greater consequences if you stubbornly pursue your original intention.
