Default Should TVB adapt another Jin Yong or Gu Long story?

I think is a bad idea because ancient series doing bad in TVB plus the actors aren't that good now and their special effects can par with mainland or eavn Taiwan. It would be a great disappointment to fans if they decided make many changes to the story, but last Jin Yong series adapted by TVB was HDSD if I remember right and wasn't really that good with old people acting young roles.

TVB can't adapt Jin Yong's material again even if they wanted to. Jin Yong reportedly hated HSDS '99 so much that he's banned TVB from adapting his work again FOREVER.

It's probably just as well. There's a glut of Jin Yong adaptations out there.

Maybe TVB should try their hand at a good Gu Long adaptation again. They haven't done a straight Gu Long adaptation in AGES.

Actually was HSDS 2000 and I wonder 09 will be good. Also did Yin Yong like any of TVB adaptions? I only know Jin Yong likes ROCH 2006 b/c he even show up in their makings.

He really liked ROCH '83 back in the day, even going so far as to pronounce it his "favorite" adaptation of his work at the time. I don't know if he still feels that way, though.

Probably he wasn't that famous that time and afraid TVB won't adapt his novels anymore if he give complains. Somehow I feel Andy Lau acting was like a doll b/c he just plainly read out the lines.

Jin Yong was already very popular and successful in 1983. The man built his legend during the 1950s and 1960s. He didn't have to kiss TVB's butt...EVER.

I didn't like the character he portrayed, but I think Andy Lau gave a spirited and memorable performance as Yeung Gor. Again, I don't like the character, but that's no fault of Lau's acting; that falls at the feet of the screenwriter and director.

Now Idy Chan was sort of stiff as Little Dragon Girl, but who isn't? That's just the way the character is.

I thought he would hate DOMD 2000 by Dicky Cheung more then HSDS 2000. Do you think he likes the bloody adaptions of his works from Shaw Brothers?

Idy Chan looks mean as XLN while Crystal Liu version was really from cold hearted to warm hearted, but Wong Xiao Ming seem too old for role of Yang Gor. Also playing Wei Xiao Bao was bad idea because he doesn't fit in well.

Andy and Idy are the best Yeung Gor and Little Dragon Girl ever, but the characters themself aren't that great. One is annoying and whining while the other one is cold and boring.

Totally agree that HSDS 2000 was painful to sit through. However, I think it is a hell lot better than the latest version of Flying Fox of Snowy Mt. It deviated so much from the novel that it should be considered a crime! Did Jin Yong make any complaints?

I heard in wuxiasociety TVB palnning to make Flying dagger again, but guess they drop it b/c didn't hear much later or probably is false rumours.

Oh yeah series made by Wong Jing change a lot like DOMD 2000, Chuliuxiang 2001, and FFSM 2007.

I think I am one of the very few people here think that TVB's serials still the best among asian (mainland china, Taiwan, Korean, ect.) tv serials. I think TVB should make serials based on novels from non-Jin Yong writers that haven't adapt into series before. Even though they might not as famous and not as great but lot of audiences will be appreciated due to originality.

So far the last wuxis series The Four made by TVB sucks! I saw few episodes and the plot was loosely based and people probably watch it because there many top TVB stars together in same series.

For me, HSDS 2000 was WAY better than HSDS 1995. Holy cow, I couldn't stand both of the main actors (Steven Ma & Cecilia Yip).....the only saving grace from the 95 version was Kathy Cow as ZZR and Coco Sun Xing as YX. Thank God for the fast forward button

Same goes for Richie Ren's ROCH. I couldn't even finished watching that one. That was THAT bad for me.

Did JY also ban the Taiwanese TVs from ever making another adaptation? I still like TVB versions better.....Mainland versions come in 2nd place.

Singaporean ROCH was bad too, Steven Ma SPW was awful, and Richie Ren SPW was too draggy.

Like at end he use ultimate martial art kill bad guy and call out Jin Yong's name. I never like Dicky series now b/c he always make up some long quote and keep repeating it throughout series is very annoying. I probably only like Journey of the West he made and that's it.

DOMD 2000 had eye candy. Monica, Ruby, and Athena made it bearable for me.

i thought DOMD 2000 was one of the funniest ever. i loved dicky's portrayal of wxb. and most of the girls were hot in there! one of the best casts ever. ruby, athena, and dicky's real life girlfriend was also in there. it was a great cast and funny as hell.

Awful Jin Yong adaptations I actually sat through that are cringe worthy :

    HSDS 1994 – Steven Ma
Legend of the Condor Lovers 1998 – Richie Ren
Flying Fox Snowy Mt 1999 – Sunny Chan
    HSDS 2000 – Lawrence Ng
DOMD 2000 – Dicky Cheung (Note: the eye candy ALMOST save the series from the ridiculous deviations, but not quite)
State of Divinity 2000 – Richie Ren
Legendary Swordsman 2000 – Steven Ma
Flying Fox Snowy Mt 2007 – Nie Yuan

I wasted time and money. Wish I can get them back . I would make a list for Gu Long’s adaptations as well, but this is more a Jin Yong thread.
