Why SPCNet?

Just curious as to why people joined SPCNet. How did you find out about it in the first place? What made you stay?

I'm sure there's another thread about this, but I'm too lazy to dig it up.

I think I found out about this when I was looking up Gu Long stuff online. I joined because I was pretty interested in discussing his novels at the time. I ended up starting some translations (which I do plan to finish in due time :P). I left for a while because of school, and also because my interest in wuxia was waning.

I came back to see what's going on. I think over the years, we had some pretty interesting members here - some stayed, some didn't.

I'm still here after 7 years because the discussion topics still manage to keep me interested. The interest in Asian entertainment is what brought many ppl here, and as long as I'm still interested in that, I will keep reading & posting

OT: after seeing PJ's post, I realize that he/she has been here longer than me. I always thought that PJ is a relatively new member. Maybe he/she has been more active nowadays.

I think I first came when I was still a wuxia fanatic. Actually at that time I was at the crossroad of leaving wuxia to explore other more meaningful stuff in life. I moved to open debate and the lounge and found a good number of interesting members - some left, some stayed.

Spcnet still boasts of some of the most civilized, intelligent and intriguing members and discussion. Many members kinda "grew up" with Spcnet so it always give this warm fuzzy feeling you can't find anywhere else.

Because this site is one of the ones least likely to tell you to open your eyes wider... Something I encounter frequently on Youtube or Myspace.

I can only tolerate so much Myspace and Youtube discussion before I have to restore brain cells here.

I really can't classify the comments on Youtube as "discussion." You think that discussions should be marked by a bit more ... maturity/sophistication.

But maybe it has to do with the videos I watch :P.

I decided to join this site because when browsing the wuxia forum, I realize Yeung Gor was losing in the polls vs Guo Jing badly. I felt that was not right and had to put a stop to the massive hatred toward my beloved character. So I decided to join and assume the character YG and educated these members of his greatness and fight against the power that be (Ken Cheng) and the YG-haters to restore YG's image. As of today, it seems YG is well received and now consider more of an equal to GJ. I still think YG > GJ but I'm satisfy with the progress this forum has made and therefore retired from further wuxia debates

I prefer Wuxiasociety for wuxia discussions - but SPCnet is a cool place to discuss all kinds of stuff and gather info about contemporary Asian entertainment and pop culture... Not to mention the impressive 'translations' subsection.

Can't recall how exactly I found this site - but probably via Wuxiasociety forum...

It's hard to recall now exactly how I got here, but I think it started with a search for information about ROCH. I'd seen part of the Singapore version and discovered it was based on a book, so I wanted to know more about it.

This site has really opened my eyes to wuxia and to Asian entertainment in general, as well as introducing me to some really nice and interesting people with whom I share common interests and values.

I joined because of my interest in TV serials, but it's also where I can find the latest information/updates on Asian entertainment and actors/actresses. This is a forum in which I "grew up" in, and it's also my first. So, coming here always gives me a warm homely feeling.

I found this place when I was searching for information on a TVB series.
