Does this article say Eva Huang Shengyi will take part in the New Water Margin? Does it say what's the role?

Btw, can anyone tell me what happened to Liu Yun? She even attended the press conference / filming opening ceremony in July and all the news articles says she gonna play the role of Hu San Niang. But now, HSN is played by another actress. Was it a last minute change? Or did something happen to Liu Yun? (I was so looking forward to see Liu Yun in this series )

It just says she's investing $$$ in the production.

Liu Yun's currently filming another show in Beijing, so she's fine in that regard. Not sure why the last minute casting change, but it happens. I mean, Sha Yi had attended the press conference for the new San Guo all signed on to play Zhao Yun, but ended up being replaced by Nie Yuan.

I have a feeling it won't. The 43-eps CCTV 1997 version was said to be the one which is accurate to the novel. As this new version has 80 episodes, twice longer than the previous version, I think there will be alot of additional plots, probably to give space for the many characters developments. I just hope the 80 eps won't be draggy.
Thanks for the info and what a relief that those are not real tattoos.

I really don't remember how long this novel is since I only read parts of it a long time ago. I think I need to look for it again. I forgot how long the novel is. I think 80 eps can still be accurate to the novel but it may be boring to watch if they follow every detail or add too many things.. 80 eps can go by quickly if the story is smooth. Yea, I really hope that it won't be too draggy either....

Respect other people's opinions and views. If we learn how to do that than all of these fights and arguments will not occur.

I wonder if SJ's wife in the novel, is also that young

Seem like all the ladies has started photo sessions with their costumes. Can't wait for ADY's turn!!^o^ She's gonna be playing the part of a prostitute, but I hope her costume won't be too sl**ty

    Question

Gee, been some time since the last post and mine. Oh well. There seems to be an awful lot of dudes in this story. I read some stuff about the original novel and the females seem to tend to be just peripheral characters. Disappointing, for I love a strong female cast.

Has anyone seen or heard about the release of the new Water Margin? Seems like something my brothers and I could watch. We're watching The Myth 2010...and lovey dovey Yi Xiao Chuan is starting to get on our nerves. If this series is out, we just might use it as a diversion because the overwhelmingly male casting and costume seem like great potential for an action driven story.

Hua Rong, Zhang Qing, Wu Song, and Yan Qing are some fine looking chaps.

Errr...Huang Hai Bing as Chai Jin looks like a vampire from Monty Python!

Strictly speaking, I would say Ady plays the role of a courtesan. Yes, it is a term born out of European court society (Renaissance if I'm not mistaken), but 'prostitute' just doesn't express the right connotations. If not, think 'Geisha'.

Does anyone know if the series is in post production yet? I'm curious as to how the producers will depict the female characters in the series...since their characters are not so flattering in the novel. In addition, most of the heroes seem like jerks, anti-heroes, I guess.

I hope the producers have given the actors more sympathetic storylines and characters to work with...or I just may have to ditch this like I'm considering doing to the latest Three Kingdoms. That's going to make me sad because I love Zhang Han Yu, Yan Kuan, Hu Dong, Ady An, and Xiong Nai Jin and blah and blah...this is a stellar cast, 'nuff said.

Oh, I saw Ady's costume on her thread....I was not impressed. And Xiong Nai Jin looks so haggard in her pics too...I'm starting to be sad already.

I agree with you on this point. Song Jiang was portrayed as a very admirable protagonist in the book, loyal to friends, strong and upright, but it was his foolishness that caused the deaths of the Liangshan heros at the end. There are also some little things I didn't like about him when I read the book. I think he's hypocritical like Liu Bei at times. I also didn't understand how he could go along with the plan of recruiting Lu Junyi by framing the latter on the counts of treason.

I'm quite happy with the cast so far, much better than ROTK, except for Pan Jinglian. I thought Li Zong Han would act as Shen Xing Tai Bao, but it seemed they gave him a bigger role. He doesn't really look like Wu Yong.

Wow! I would like to watch this New Water Margin. But where is Lu Zhishen? He's one of most famous hero of Water Margin. And my favorit. And I can't find not a word about him here.

I've also updated the first post with more pics of the characters.
Ooohhh, Yan Kuan looks hot in military costume! I'm very superficial...I like to watch series with really hot guys. Peter Ho's hot grimace on "Three Kingdoms" DVD cover was enough to make me sit through the whole series.

I wonder how Johnny Chen Long's Wu Song will tackle the tiger. Every other adaptation had such a fake Wu Song-tiger fight.

Hahaha, that's so true. But it'd be interesting if they show some actual scenes with a tiger in it. After all, it's the legendary tiger scene.

Of all the remakes, I'm most satisfied with this casting. Seems like they put a lot of thought into image and acting skills concerned. I'd certainly go for this over ROTK and Hong Lou Meng.

The 3D graphics I see on Chinese dramas still look super fake. But of course, it would be too expensive to use Hollywood-type animation a la Jurassic Park. Only movies helmed by the likes of Tsui Hark and John Woo may have that type of budget.

The talking deers in Detective Dee were amaaazzzing.
