Before I start:
1) I'm in final year of high school, so please excuse slow, irregular updates.
2) This is my first translation attempt, so please point out and correct any inconsistencies, misusage, incoherence etc, thanks!
Given the nature of WLWS, translation notes on this book will be long. Read it if you want, it will certainly help you understand a bit more of the book. For that reason, I'm going to spend the rest of today posting up translation notes before I post up the first chapter ^^
This is probably one of the most "ancient-languaged" books GL has written. If any of you are familiar with Japanese, you will understand the complex addresses people have for each other based on background, rank, age, sex, relationship and more. Shen Lang himself is very careful with these addresses...certainly not like Lu XiaoFeng or Jiang XiaoYu who are content with using only "you" and "I". In order sometimes to understand the relationships and also the conversation between some of these characters, I have left all of the addresses in brackets after the pronoun. Unfortunately, there are about umpteen different addresses, so I'll have to keep adding to this list. Also, there are places where the sentence would only make sense in English if a pronoun is added...so just don't rely too much on a bare "I" as an indication of rudeness or whatever.
Apart from mere addresses, there are certain sentences that have a distinct "formal/ancient" feel to it, so the translation notes for this book will be very long indeed ^^; Other stuff: I'm not very familiar with direct translation of this particular style, so some sentences will sound very fragmented. I had to take some liberty with punctuation and sometimes, even entire sentences. I hope I get better as things go, so please bear with me.
