Mao Zi Jun [wish it were Ding Zi Jun, couldn't help myself] looks good in the pictures but I didn't notice him in the series haha. I really hope Yuan Hong is in the series too. I am glad the men don't have to shave their heads for this series...don't really dig that cue ball look, especially when it's only halfway.

LOL...I LOVE your "cue ball" description! HATE the Qing look too. Unfortunately I read on tieba that YH's in discussion for yet another future Qing project with Liu Lian Zi (producer/scriptwriter of Hou Gong). ARRGH!

Really? The guy who played Liu Che in MRXJ was pretty goodlooking! (If I remember correctly.) With him on top of YK + YH I definitely have no complaints about the male cast so far... ^_^

Well at least Yan Kuan and hot new actor will be in it. Unfortunately, don't cross your fingers about Yuan Hong being in Qing Shi bcos latest news is that his Bu Bu schedule may not permit - 13th Prince has a lot of scenes.

Apparently the delay is bcos of some last minute swapping of key male roles. Up to now, certain roles have yet to be confirmed.

Ruby is taking a gamble in casting hunky newcomer Mao Zi Jun in a key role:

Veteran actress Dai Chun Rong (hated Empress in the original HZGG, Empress Lu in MRXJ, rival weaver teacher in TYZN, E-Mei leader in Strange Hero) will play a key role in Qing Shi.

从大计划上来看，广告风云会与步步惊心发生比较严重的撞期，再加上步步是清妆戏需要剃光头，要拍广告风云的 话就必须全部拍完之后再来横店拍步步。
但广告风云的制作方的态度非常真诚恳切，导演和制作人为了我的加入做了大量工作，也愿意在本就不富于的时间 安排上做出牺牲调整，这让我很感动，所以我告诉他们，我已接了步步惊心，这件事需要跟唐人沟通。其实在这时 ，留给我们的协调时间只剩两天不到（广告风云一天后就要开机了），所以我还是觉得没有两全其美的可能性。但 没想到的是，当我跟karen沟通说有这么一件事时，她只问清了大概的时间档期，没有多想就直接告诉我：步 步的时间我会帮你协调，我们会等你。
其间倾世皇妃制片定我出演xx角色，但我们双方都知道由于倾世与步步的时间撞的很死，两边角色的戏份又都不 算轻，且牵涉到其他演员档期等方方面面问题，尬戏的难度也是非常之大。我与k也曾就此事沟通，但由于当时两 边的具体时间表都还没出来，故而没什么细节谈，但k也爽快答应等具体时间出来，会尽力帮我安排。之后倾世的 制作方也与K通过电话说过此意向，K表示会尽力帮忙。
直到近期倾世那边告诉我，据他们计算考量，若演xx的话档期上是完全没有可能安排的过来的，所以希望我可以 出演另一角色。其实据我估算也是如此结果，这次尬戏的难度的确比上次还要难上万倍，同时也的确有别的档期角 色都更合适的戏在接洽，所以至今此事还未有定论。
He was scheduled for Ad World (Oct-Dec) and Qing Shi Huang Fei (Dec-Mar) consecutively. Basically in his reply, he said he accepted Bu Bu Jing Xin even though he has left Tangren. Bu Bu is a very important production for Tangren and the 13th Prince role is interesting (我知道这部戏是公司非常重视的一个作品，再加上十三也是我喜欢的角色，于情于理我都会欣然接受 。). He was touched (or guilt-stricken?) by the fact that Tangren delayed Bu Bu production waiting for him to finish Ad World (步步的时间我会帮你协调，我们会等你。). As for Qing Shi, he wasn't be able to take on the original role planned for him bcos of conflicts with Bu Bu (其间倾世皇妃制片定我出演xx角色，但我们双方都知道由于倾世与步步的时间撞的很死). Ruby's agent, Junping swapped him to another role, but even that other role would create problems with his Bu Bu schedule. There could be other roles that will fit into his schedule. They are in discussion and nothing has been confirmed yet (同时也的确有别的档期角色都更合适的戏在接洽，所以至今此事还未有定论).

Nah! It's just Tangren. Yuan Hong's schedule was arranged nice and pat. Bu Bu butted in . FYI - he cut off his Bu Bu contract back in July already, so it wasn't even in his plans till the last minute.

Yup, Mao Zi Jun looks delicious and I'm glad he's given this opportunity by Ruby. He was acting as Empress Dou/Ruby's grandson (grown-up version) Liu Che in MRXJ - small role near the end of the series, but enough to make people notice.

Was wondering why Mao Zi Jun looks & sounds so familiar and I realise that he's the actor who plays 14th prince in "Gong". I can't recall his performance in MRXJ since he only had a small role in it; he looks like Huang Xiao Ming in that B&W shot above.

i wouldn't mind mao zijun being the male lead. he's good-looking enough, but of course, i havent seen him act, so...

I doubt he would be the male lead.

Based on the novel there are 8 juicy male characters, and I would divide them into two tiers.
The first four - QiYou, LianCheng, LianXi, HanMing .. these are the MAJOR male roles in the story.
The next four - ZhanMengTian, QiXing, QiYun, QiHao ... these are also important characters in the story.

I am guessing that mao zijun plays, a character in the 2nd tier - ZhanMengTian (Youngest man to ever win first place in the Royal Examination, and rises to become prime minister & war general). If he does get a role in the first tier, my guess is he play LianXi (One of the kings) - and that would definately mean a big break for him. I'm not sure he is up to it though.


P.S. The novel describes ALL the male characters to be exceptionally handsome
