Never meant to put a qualitative value on Chinese culture - sort of impossible with any culture. I was pointing out that "superstition, rituals, etc" were part of Chinese culture.Originally Posted by brightlight
Changes or extinction of certain cultural practices/behaviours is not solely due to government being anti-anything. Unfortunately, whether they are just or not doesn't necessarily sway the outcome either. I believe the elimination of the foot-binding rule was perhaps a personally motivated socio-political act - I'd suggest looking up any biography of Sun Yat-sen.
Modern China cannot be anti-feudal - China hasn't been feudal since Qin Shi Huang started imperialism . Civil administration has no place in a feudal state.
If you mean 'Bratty Princess' as in the one starring Alex Su and Jang Na, yes I agree costumes were outlandish - good for comedic relief though. It's plot was somewhat solid (if one can forgive that it was pure plagarism from Taiwan's Princess Huai Yu). Dynamics between the actors were also refreshing. I wouldn't care if they all wore purple latex with alumininium hats, as long as the plot and characterisations were intriguing. That's just me though. There have been far more terrible historical dramas than Gong. Ex. My Bratty Princess, which was pretty wellreceived, was not only completely historically inaccurate, but had totally wacko clothing. At least Gong got the clothes fairly right. It's entirely unfair to target Yu Zheng for that just because he got more popular.
I said "re-evaluate criteria". It does not mean "more regulation". Reviewing and/or reforming existing policies is not an uncommon practice in government. How can you ask for more regulation and then ask the government not to interfere?
I prefer mixed economies . There is value from government regulation of certain areas of media e.g. censhorship. It is not completely wise for the media to be completely market-driven. Amazing productions come from producers/directors/writers that know how to balance creative autonomy and the importance of consumerism. I wouldn't want to watch anything from producers who are slaves to any minor or major groups of society. The only way for the entertainment industry grow is through a market-driven economy.
My bad for jumping on the bandwagon and dissing Yu Zheng (I suspect totally fun in a wicked and primal way ). Allow my dissing intentions to be more focused: Gong.

IMO Kevin's the ONLY Prince in BBJX who looks good bald, unlike Mr Penguin and Big Eyes.
Posting this swoonsome pic one more time...

^^They all look the same...but the 2nd one from the left is 9th lol! He's got the most disgruntled expression.
I like me.
Yeah, I know...with Han Dong's acting skills. Whooo!
IDK why in the beginning when I was reading all the tieba threads, i kept mixing up 9th and 13th, hence thought 13th would be Ruoxi's thorn. My bad - sorrie guys! But I am looking forward very much to Han Dong's performance - just have a soft spot for thorns on the side of the heroes/heroines.
Nicky's still winning lots of ad endorsements despite his crew cut (see http://ent.sina.com.cn/s/m/2011-04-22/15383289374.shtml) Doesn't matter if he's no where as handsome as Kevin. Love him bcos he looks wicked

Eee! Nicky looks even more like a mouse with the stick-out ears and grey clingy T.
Here's wat I call real bad boy HOT - Kevin at a watch endorsement thingy with Vivian Chow. Even baddy sexier with crew cut & moustache combo.
