I think it's a play on Chinese sayings. They've said that all of their previous collaborations were "buying soysauce" in each other's worlds, which means that their characters didn't really have much to do with each other. "Eating vinegar" means being jealous, and in DMY, there's a fair bit of jealousy going on.
