Not to be superficial, but this is the worst that I've ever seen Zheng Shuang look.

The wideness of her face is really off-putting. Did it not occur to anyone in the crew to maybe ... I don't know ... let her hair DOWN?

Srsly, how do you make Zheng Shuang look unattractive? Didn't think it could be done, but it has been accomplished here.

This thread is a little Yan Kuan pictures filled...heheh I'm not complaining. He's always smexy. Though I don't know how to feel about him playing Zhan Zhao, I always had a love/hate relationship with Kenny Ho And Ray Lui playing the role. Mainly because Zhan Zhao was always that lone hero that had romantic storylines that just never worked out. I felt so frustrated by the storylines. But let's see how it goes....seems to have some veteran actors from Taiwan being in it too. Nobody watching it yet?

Watched up to episode 20...

- Honestly, there's not much difference between dubbing and not dubbing the actors. The only downside is when they're shooting in the forest or open environments, there's so much background noise that you can't really hear the actors' voices. Maybe they could do dubbing for those scenes only?
- If you are watching this show solely for Yan Kuan as Zhan Zhao, you'll have a long while to wait since he's not around most of the time. Same goes for Chen Xiao as Bai Yutang.
- The rest of the Five Rats are really funny
- The best solution for long-time bachelors in Jiang Hu to get a wife is saving damsels in distress
- A bit drawn out on the plotting by Minister Pang to get rid of Bao Zheng - I almost clicked the fast-forward button

All in all, it's an enjoyable drama. And I really hope Zhan Zhao and Yuehua can have a happy ending. Pretty please?

I agreed Yan Kuan dont have much scene in here, and also Zhang Zhi Xi who played Jing Yalan, Bai yutang girlfriend. The drama start out good, but towards the middle, it drags. I don't get the last episode 42, why bai yutang went to work for Bao Zheng. The ending is very confusing, and there's still the bad guy that escaped jail. I wonder if they will do a sequel or maybe not enough money and thats y they left where it is for now?

Yan Kuan and Zheng shuang did they broke up? i thought in the book they married. Praying for a sequel with the same cast, and better story line.

I am watching this one viki and I like the character of 4th brother the most. Actually, all the brothers are pretty decent. Zhan Zhao seems to be playing a more peripheral character in the middle of the series but I think that's okay...I don't think the show was ever meant to be just about him. Note: I've been a fan of Yan Yikuan even before the name change and leading roles lol.

As for the lead females, hmmm Ding Yuehua is fine...cept for the red eyeliner under her eyes...what's the deal? Ms. Yalan is so boring.

Zhang Zhixi is pretty without the heavy makeup and red/hotpink eyeliner & shadows. I make her eyes look like she cried too much or lack of sleep. I really like yalan & bai yutang, but they have little scenes together. I must say, this is the first drama i watch of chen xiao that he does do intimate scenes & kisses like his previous c-dramas with the leading ladies. This version of bai yutang is my favorite b/c chen xiao protrayed it well and very handsome.

Ms. Yalan is boring character and she has small scenes here and there. I wish she was lead instead of zhang shuang. hopefully, there will be a sequel. ding yuehua and zhan zhao did'nt get together.

Yay, I'm finally done with this series.

All in all, it was fun and enjoyable, but I was getting a bit tired of the antics of the Rats (especially Xu Qing) near the end of the show. And the speed they rushed through the story after Pang Yu's chapter is... phenomenal.

It's a bittersweet ending for Zhan Zhao and Ding Yuehua -- I had hoped the script writers to settle their relationship once and for all, but having a promise to wait is better than just breaking up, I guess?

Now I wonder if there's any sequels to this...

Nope, Fourth Bro didn't find anyone.

As for ZZ and DYH, YH got really disappointed in ZZ (since he's now openly working against the Kaifeng fellows and he stole the Emperor's official robes) and she decided to leave. ZZ (in the guise of Shen Zhongyuan) asked her to give ZZ a chance to explain later, before she decides that ZZ is beyond hope. The end.

I thought the last scene really showed that ZZ do care about YH...

Personally, I don't really like Yan Yikuan's Zhan Zhao. I think he was to playful. It seems to be more of the script's fault, not the actor.

I would give this 8.5/10 despite skipping so much, there was too much long dialogue. They also took 40+ episodes to solve only one case, how I feel about the case? So in the end, the king fell in love with Zheng Shuang so he finally punishes his evil queen, Zheng Shuang should have just go meet the king at the very beginning and nobody would need to be plotting on the queen so damn hard. JK.

I still cannot get over Sun Xing's Bai Yutang, he's not as good looking as Chen Xiao but as far as being lively+gentle+mean+arrogant+romantic+heroic he played it the cutest way ever. Chen Xiao's version lacks the lively+happy+gentle part but he was very cute as an arrogant person. I enjoyed all his scenes here, and he's the best character in the drama. Got to love how immune he was to woman compared to Zhan Zhao, and he was also romantic to the lady he likes.

Yeah...it was a WHOLE LOT OF SKIPPING for me because Chen Xiao had very few scenes. I was very dissappointed at the lack of interaction between BYT and Zhan Zhao, was hoping they would be fighting again for a girl. Everyone was pretty much separated the whole time doing their own things by themselves. I know it's not a romantic drama, but they took forever to solve only one case in 40 episodes so it was rather boring, Zhan Zhao hid his identity 90% of the time and didn't get to play as a real Zhan Zhao that much, I only liked 2 scenes he did:
1. The he funny scene he and BYT at the tea shop arguing with the waiter bc there was an old guy wanting to jump off the bridge
2. He dressed as a lady fighting with BYT
Agreed that Zheng Shuang got red crying eyes, she and Yalan looked too identical which is not a good thing for me, and I also vote for lowering down the bright pink lips. She looks so different from her little fox character in the swords drama thingy, hopefully it wasn't because of the surgery that made her look older and too mature, if it was I would cry so much for her because her cute innocent looks was far far far better. She's beautiful, but not quite to the point like how everybody was complimenting her in the drama...actually, it might if she still had the cute little fox look.
My first impression of Yalan was...whoa the weak lady can actually fight? I laughed at the part when she said she couldn't walk because she sat for way too long and got numb legs...such a strong lady with good kungfu, what can numb do to her? Being weak at times and suddenly so strong at times. Both her and Zheng Shuang's men masquerading was quite ridiculous, they have make up and heavy clothings that are tight, which makes their feminity extremely shining, and there's always the unnattractive hat. They are not some rich generals or officials, it would be better if they can dress up like some normal guy.
I like Sai Hua the most, the smart girl always say she knows how to fend people off. The fat ugly baddy that likes her is also funny from time to time too.
The funniest character gotta go to the fourth brother, he's so funny the way he likes Yue Hua.
