well...let's face it, zjz would never try to produce anything like brokeback mountain...so ang lee is already different!

Erm, I'm glad that didn't work out. Shu Qi was already a wrong cast for the role of Hongfu in 'Romance of Red Dust'. c.c;

The fighting for that movie depended mainly on wirework bt it was so much more enjoyable and creative thn the flying-over-moon, CGI-clouded and swirl of white sashes ones in ROCH.

If Ang Lee is the director, is this going to be 'hollywood' and released worldwide? Because that would obviously be a major breakthrough. Personally, i love Ang Lee movies, and any film directed by Ang Lee i think would be a big hit outside of china

It might. But i dont think it'll be going hollywood since the latter tend to prefer ancient chinese rather thn modern chinese shows. It'll probably be very hyped up, especially in asia because Ang Lee is probably one of the most hyped directors now.

I dont think the photographer was concentrating on her face/epressions since it's not even close-up. But more of the whole ambience, grace, baackground thingy. It's one of those ''movement'' photos. She looks very light and flowy in the first pic..something like run-away or in this case, fly-away bride.

Wow. If this is more than a rumour, then it's quite possibly the best GYY news ever - the moment we've been waiting for.

I think producers and (particularly) investors are a cautious bunch. Being business-oriented, they like the tested, the measurable, and the predictable. In other words, they like Zhang Ziyi. Ang Lee is one of the most admired directors on the planet at the moment; if he casts GYY in a major role in his film, then that immediately gives her a 'big director stamp-of-approval' and puts her on the radar of all the investors. And those are the people who ultimately pull the strings.

I particularly like what the article claims Ang Lee thinks of GYY: "wai rou nei gang", i.e. "soft on the outside but hard on the inside". That's quite a good summary of what is still GYY's defining role so far - as Zhou Zhiruo in HSDS03. In fact, her character's role in the film doesn't sound a million miles away from ZZR. And even their names are sort of similar in sound & meaning! GYY's acting has improved a lot since a few years back; whether or not she becomes a megastar, her days of low-budget serials, bit-parts and obscure indie films might soon be over.

I can't believe that some of her mainland fans are against her accepting the role is she is offered just because they dont like Ang Lee

A fan in the baidu forum stated that GYY has been offered many chances in big films and series since "Qing Hong" but she turned it down because of her 1-yr break. I hope she doesn't turn this down if she is offered it. BTW, i wonder whether this rumour is accurate because GYY's manager told the press that he knew nothing of it and will have to check it out. Funny isn't it? If GYY met Ang Lee, thn her manager would definitely know abt it.

she looks rather tan in the pics dont u think? or maybe it's the make-up and colour of her dress. somehow, i dont think GYY looks very flattering in brown. There was once she wore this brown dress and permed her hair for last yr's Shanghai film festival or smth and she looked rather old.
