    Default ShangGuan XiaoXian

It's been several years since I read "September Condor" by Gu Long, and I was only 12 at the time so I don't know how accurate my impressions are today. I seem to recall that Shangguan Xiaoxian is rather unemotional. she isn't the sentimental type that gets jealous or feels bad easily. however in ATV's adaption, she is quite sentimental and displays a range of emotions; you can tell she wants to cry behind Ye Kai's back - which is just not what I expected. I expected her to be stone cold. What do you guys remember about her?

She was quite steady in her emotions throughout the book but she wasn't cold. She broke down in tears at the end but she doesn't give me the impression of being crybaby-like and weak.

ah yes, steady or stable was how I wanted to describe SGXX in the book. But she is such a loser in the series. Every time we see her with Ye Kai (which can happen up to 5 times per episode), she has to repeat these lines: "Don't you know how I feel? I can't live without your love. I only care about you. I know you only love Ding Lingling, but..." For crying out loud, I am sick of hearing these corny dialogues. Cut to the chase already, ATV!

I think she did say that quite a few times in the book as well ^^; But with a very ambiguous air...her character's very unpredictable, she can switch moods and "masks" all the time, and she does each performance flawlessly, which also adds to that unpredictability.

the actress who played Shangguan in the ATV series is the same girl who played Ah Zi in Demi Gods Semi Devils 1982. No wonder the facial expressions seemed familiar.

That series really looks familiar. I think I saw it a long time ago.

To Duy,I don't remember the exact year. But I think it was in the early 80s. The title translated word for word is "Cuu Nguyet Ung Phi".It also has the title of Tieu Ly Phi Dao on top of it which shows that it is associated with Tieu Ly Phi Dao's story. I remember seeing it way back then. I didn't know it was a Gu Long novel though.

okay i jus reread the novel, it seems like she is really in love with YK, and mayb he "likes" her too, it shows time where she has a lot of emotions when she was w/ him, it jus that she could maintain her composure and become expressionless. Wassup with the ending, i know YK won the fight, but how? and wat happen to SGXX afterward. I really like her as a villain, it seems like she could match wits w/ YK and her kungfu is really good as well.

Uh, I might be wrong but I believe the one who played Ah Zi in DGSD 82 was Chan Fok Sang, while the one who played Shangguan Xiaoxian was the famous soft porn actress Amy Yip Zi Mei.

Ah Zi was played by Chan Fok Sang. According to the Sky Angel website (http://tshy.org/listen/themesong/001/9yyf.htm), Shangguan is also played by her. I guess Amy Yip is creditted on the vcd cover, but I doubt it's actually her.

Here is a comparison of the three, starting from left: Shangguan Xiaoxian, Ah Zi, actress Amy Yip. The first 2 look like the same person to me.

By the way Laviathan, your sig is cool but a bit space consuming. Consider single-spacing it?

I remember she was beautiful. The face of a youth and the body of a woman. She was good at hiding her feelings hence always appearing as indifferent. She felt she was on top of the world because she had all these qualities - beauty, martial arts, intelligence. Therefore she thought all guys would fall head over heels for her until she met YK. I always thought she wanted YK because she couldn't get him. What you can't get is always the best. But right at the end when she broke down and cried, I thought it's because she finally faced the truth that she lost to YK. Not in skills or martial arts or anything else, but that she couldn't get the man she loves.
