A lot of the characters tend to be very passionate and rather eccentric. They throw themselves wholeheartedly into everything they do. That probably explains why they can't get over love easily.

Well I guess that my view on this is a bit bias because I think that Yin Li is a much more interesting, funny and all around better character than Yue Lingshan.

Quite obviously he loved YLS more. RYY was always a rebound girl. I just rushed through XAJH again, and it disgusts me how 'LHC's tears streamed down his face' or 'he was speechless w/ pain' etc. once every 2 chapters b/c of YLS. This wasn't totally incomprehensible, but I find it nauseating nonetheless. JY should've let YLS survive and come back to LHC so that he'd have to make a choice (a la TVB's XAJH 1996), or better, let RYY, in a moment of enlightenment, realize that she was merely the #2 then dump his arse to go w/ some cool dude in the Sun Moon Divine Sect who cared about her the most.

I think LHC came to love RYY the most towards the end of the novel. She was the one who was always there for him through thick and think and never doubted him. YLS may be his first love but she was definitely not his last.

Well, that's up to interpretation.
I myself always have the impression that he stayed w/ RYY mostly b/c he wanted to repay her kindness rather than b/c he really loved her. Even in the last few chapters, when he wrongly thought that she'd died, or when they were captured by YBQ, his reaction was sort of like 'meh'. By contrast, whenever he saw YLS, he felt as if there were knives stabbing him in the butt.
