So, I take it that you've watched the whole series? If so, what did you think of it?
the series was ok... some parts were kind of touching and sad later on... ( i liked the second half better) but the ending was dumb... not really satisfying -_-

Hmm, now you guys have me curious about the ending. Was it "not much" because it wasn't satisfying, did it just end suddenly and unexpectedly, or something else...? Please don't give anything significant away if possible, but try your best to describe the feeling it left you with.

    both reasons...

it was unsatisfying.. and not really an ending for everyone.. or anyone... kind of abrupt too... or just incomplete

yeah actually it does... although i don't know how possible that will be...
they really could have just ended it there instead of trying to drag it into a sequel

Well, if this series was/is popular, making a sequel would mean...more dough for the production company. We all know how that is.

    of course... how dumb -.-

the way things went, a sequel would be really stupid... it's a bad ending but certain things we were waiting for did happen...

I haven't gotten any response back from them yet. Sorry.

Maybe if more people are willing to bug them, they will feel more inclined to do something about it?

For some reason I like Mainland series themesongs and some of Taiwanese series ones better than TVB's ancient or wuxia series themesong...nowadays they lack the ancient feeling or something about it...

    Hey Lady ZHUge,

Ok, I've watched up to episode 21 of this series and will provide an update on what's been happening from episode 13 to the aforementioned. For other people who've seen this series, if I have typed something that is inaccurate, please correct me, as there's a price to pay for watching several series at the same time and rather sporadically at that. I'm also leaving a lot of the "little stuff" out, 'cause otherwise, I might as well write a novel, right?
It feels like a lot has happened in this tale, and yet not much has happened. But, that's another story.

    ****SPOILERS****

Sima Chang Feng's godfather Ban Tian Yue (BTY: the scary-looking masked dude) poisons the prior's "uncle" (the one who raised him) and orders him to kill Shangguan Yan before he will give him the necessary medication to save his uncle. Sima Chang Feng (SCF) and Shangguan Yan (SY) were going to have a major life-or-death confrontation anyway, to resolve the many years of misunderstandings and conflicts, but BTY feared that SCF would be too merciful with SY. So, the fight happens and we see the powerful connection between the Dragon and Phoenix swords. This part's kind of fuzzy for me, since it's been awhile since I saw episode 13, but after the two swords meet and they're floating around in air for awhile while the energy and light eminate from the blades, SY faints and starts falling. SCF saves her and takes her away while their friends help to hold the enemy parties back. SCF goes to Sai Hua Tuo (SHT, aka Oeyang Ming Ri) for help, but the latter says he can't do anything for her. Later it is revealed that he is not telling the truth about that. SY feels better and she and SCF talk. In order to prove her father's innocence, she stabs herself with the Phoenix sword and later "dies". Everyone is very sad and SCF buries her. BTY, however, will not give SCF the medication he had promised earlier to save his poisoned uncle because he wants the Imperial Seal first.

So, where is this elusive and highly sought-after Imperial Seal? Before her duel with SCF, SY cleverly left a note for Stinky Tofu (ST) to be opened only upon her death. It contains the directions to the whereabouts of the Seal. ST and his father locate it in a very open place, which would be too obvious for any of the baddies to find. Unfortunately, some evil people had been following them and they try to rassle the Seal from ST and the latter's father is injured in the confrontation. With some healing, he is all right.

SY's body is discovered missing from her burial grounds when BTY sends his cronies to check and see if she's really dead. SCF goes to Nong Yue's place to get the medication for his uncle. Nong Yue (NY) tells SCF that if he passes three tasks, he will give him the cure. SCF is successful, but is then trapped in a desert of illusion set up by NY. Meanwhile, SHT teaches ST some mad stepping skills so that he can go and rescue SCF. ST charges into NY's place pretending to be a tofu delivery guy and destroys the illusion contraption and frees SCF. SCF flees with the medicine while NY and his cronies are in hot pursuit. SCF unleashes a severe attack and NY's mom blocks it from hitting her son with her body. So, NY's mom is on her deathbed and NY begs BTY to save her. His mom's last words to him warned against trusting BTY. NY is then asked to leave the room. When BTY and the princess are alone, the princess says that she knows he can't save her because their energies are opposing and to save her would be harmful to him. BTY asks her where the magic armor/suit is and she tells him that SCF stole it, but in reality, she had secretly given it to NY. Her final thoughts were: "Now I will finally have me revenge." NY vows to get revenge on SCF for killing his mother.

SCF brings the medicine back to SHT and the latter instructs his sidekick Gao Yi Shan (GYS) to do something or other with it in order to prepare for use, as he suspects that NY did something to it. Despite all the caution, when SCF's uncle ingests the medicine, his whole face turns gray and we know that he is about to die. Later we find out through the sidekick's flashback that when he had his back turned, someone zapped poison into the medication. Before the uncle dies, he tells SCF his story. It turns out that he is actually the older brother of SHT's mom. One day a long time ago, he happened to overhear Oeyang Fei Ying (OFY: SHT's biological father) and BTY's evil plans and they threaten that if he ever tells anyone, his sister would be in grave danger. So, of course he promised to keep the secret for the sake of his sister's safety. Now he regrets that he was such a coward back then. SCF's whole family was killed while SCF and his younger brother are hiding in a closet. Suddenly, they can't take it anymore and jump out, crying. They are about to be killed too when the uncle begs for mercy. BTY (who at that time, was not wearing a mask) agrees to let the uncle take SCF and he himself took the other boy. SCF's brother was given to a lonely princess who brought him up as her own son. Yep, SCF's younger brother is none other than NY! At around this point, it's important to note that no one except the audience knows this connection, as we can see both the uncle's and NY's flashbacks. The uncle then takes his last breath and dies in SCF's arms.

SHT reveals (to everyone except the audience's surprise) that SY can still be saved, but he needs SCF's heart in order to do so. ST offers his heart in exchange, but SHT says that it must be SCF's because of the special bond they share. Otherwise, he would have offered his own heart to save her. SCF agrees. During the "transplant" (it looked more like a transfusion to me), SCF and SY are temporarily knocked out, but SHT is severely poisoned. He knew he would be poisoned all along, but continued with the treatment anyway for the sake of SY. When asked why he didn't save himself first, he said "If you and your most beloved were both in peril, but you could only save one, who would you save?" That's right, collective awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww time.

    To be continued...

    ****SPOILERS****

SY, SCF, and SHT are placed in different coffins. With time, SY and SCF both wake up, but SHT does not. He left instructions to leave his body in the tomb and lock everyone out with this complicated puzzle. He even foresaw that there would be nosey visitors who would want proof that he was really dead and set up some traps. (This series makes references to SHT being like Zhuge Kongming, so it's no wonder I like his character sooo much! )

SCF tries to tell SY his true feelings and how he wants them to be together and away from all the hatred and everything, but she does not seem to reciprocate. SCF thinks it's because of SHT. This is the beginning, or really a continuation of the misunderstanding between them, as the series just keeps going on and on about SCF not knowing really who to trust (since his godfather BTY keeps telling him that everyone else is the enemy) and SY being disturbed by the fact that the only time SCF seems to totally trust her is when she's in grave danger. I don't feel the need to repeat myself a million times about that, although the series certainly does.

Meanwhile, ST's father is captured and taken hostage by BTY's men because BTY suspects that ST is really the true heir to the throne, Huangfu Ren He, and they want the Imperial Seal. The bad guys also try to capture ST's father's REAL daughter (whose name is Bing Xin (BX); her father left her and her mother when she was young in order to live undercover and raise ST) in order to use her to get the truth out of him, but fortunately, ST and Bai Tong (BT) come to the rescue. Together, the three of them plus two of ST's buddies try to go and rescue ST's dad. Unfortunately, they are not successful and BT is handicapped by NY and ST's dad is ruthlessly beaten. BT is extremely upset about being handicapped, but of course BX takes good care of him and very predictably, love is in the air. Eventually one day, the masters of SHT and SGY who are also like best friends (the best doctor on the Jiang Hu and Gu Mu Tian, the creator of the magical swords, respectively) come upon the place where BX and BT are temporarily living and heals BT's legs. He then continues to be obsessed with practicing his martial arts and sword skills in order to become numero uno, while BX feels quite neglected.

SY rescues ST's dad from his jail cell, but he has already mortally wounded and is unable to make it back alive. As he is dying, he tells SY the whole truth about how ST is indeed the true heir to the Huangfu throne. This is why he has always been so careful and overly-worried about ST's safety and well-being. Proof of ST's true status are the seven special centralized moles on ST's body (more specifically, lower back) plus an Imperial letter written on a dragon cloth that's hidden...that's on ST's...ST's...ah, what an opportune time to die. And die he does. Sadness, oh sadness once again.

Now for some happiness. NY pays a visit to SHT's tomb and figures out its mysteries. He sees SHT lying in the coffin and does something or other to cause a light to shine on the body, thus bringing the young genius back to life. SHT thanks NY, saying that he knew he would come. In return, he would completely heal NY's internal injury sustained from a cut by SCF's Dragon Sword awhile ago.

ST thinks that SY has a crush on him, because she's started to pay all this attention to him by making him practice his martial arts and following him around, she was also looking through his clothes, and peeped at him while he was taking a bath. In reality, she is a) trying to train him to protect himself, b) looking for the Imperial letter on the dragon cloth and c) looking for the seven moles on his body.

Su Xiong (a minor character whose mother was ordered to impersonate SY's mother way back in episode 2 or 3 in order to save her son) was killed while trying to protect ST from some bad guys.

I may or may not have mentioned this before, but SHT was made the head advisor of the country by OFY, who at this point still doesn't know that this genius is the son that he ordered to be put to death all those many years ago. SHT agrees to this because he knows that the enmity between SY and his father OYF will manifest one day and boil over and he doesn't want to see either side get hurt. Anyway, OFY tells SHT that if he is able to get the Imperial Seal, he will be greatly rewarded. SHT only says that he will ask for one person and OFY hurriedly agrees without even asking who that person is. He just assumes that it will be his daughter, princess Ying Ying (YY), and could not be more happy about it.

It's probably important to mention now that before episode 13, OFY ordered his wife to be quarantined in this lowly and dirty place with the servents who clean the toilets because she knows too much and is against him being such an evil a-hole. Now back to the present segment. YY is worried about her mother, as she hasn't seen her in a long time and her father keeps saying that she is "ill" and needs time to recover. She and SHT go and look for her in the one place she hadn't already searched previously, which were the servant quarters. They hide behind some bushes and see her walk out dressed all raggedy. YY is furious, but SHT stops her from doing anything foolish. He promises her that he will get her mother out, but she has to be patient and not be so hasty. That night, her father has arranged a family dinner so that mother and daughter can reunite so as to dissolve YY's worries and suspicions, but had made the mother promise not to reveal the true situation or else...
YY's mother meets SHT (her biological son!!!) and realizes that they had met before. She is pretty sure that he is her son, but dares not say anything to him, as she fears that perhaps her son hates her for doing what she had been forced to do. Although not everyone knows it, this is a TRUE Oeyang family dinner. Too bad it could not last forever. Afterwards, the mother (I can never remember her name, but it's Yu something...) is escorted back to "where she needs to be" and YY has a fit. SHT secretly vows that he will rescue his mother.
Poor mommy is returned to hell, where the servant girls treat her like absolute crap. This reminds me so much of Kang Xi Di Guo, when Kang Xi's favorite concubine Rong had to endure the same treatment and was basically put in this exact same situation. Oops, sorry for rambling and getting off track.

Back to SCF not knowing who to trust. On the one hand is his godfather who has raised him since he was a kid and taught him all his skills. On the other hand is SY (no explanation needed here), his belated "uncle", and ST's dead "dad". BT and ST design a set-up to show SCF BTY's true colors. At this point, SCF is pretty sure that BTY is cocked full of BS, but instead of confronting him, he becomes more agreeable with his godfather. BTY suspects that something is wrong, but can't put his finger on what it is.

If anyone is interested, the ending theme song of this series can be heard in the background here. It loops, too.

Ah, how I love talking to myself in this thread.

I went on a recent surge and am now on the very last episode of this series. I will probably watch that later today or tomorrow. Unfortunately, one of my CDs is messed up, so I missed what happened in the second half of episode 40 and all of 41. All I could gather from later episodes was that Bing Xin died (killed by Ban Tian Yue)? Can anyone provide more details about that or give a short summary of what happened in those one and a half episodes? Thanks in advance.

This is such a sad series. *sniff* I loathe Oeyang Fei Ying with a passion.
