Default Could XF be an excellent martial art teacher?

In DGSD we all know XF was a martial art genius, *everything* he learnt would be so lethal. He defeated many enemies in his life, and defeated them badly that most (if not all) of them did not dare to find him for a rematch. But what about his teaching skill? Did he have a talent to teach martial arts to others and make others into at least good fighters?

Being a good martial arts learner and a good fighter does not automatically mean that one will a good martial arts teacher. Gwok Jing, for example, was a great learner of the martial arts and a great fighter himself, but he was unable to train any of his students (i.e. Gwok Fu, the Mo Brothers, etc.) to martial arts greatness.

It nevertheless goes to show that being an expert in something doesn't necessarily mean one can teach it.

Really? YG is also considered his student . IIRC, it was mentioned in HSDS that GJ tried to teach all of his students/decendents XL18Z including the smart YG. If YG is impotent, where the yellow-dressed girl come from?

XLN has low IQ and look at HER student

XF, I don't think could be a great teacher. He fought on instinct, I can imagine him telling his students "What are you thinking? Why can't you see his weak point? It's so obvious!!!!!!!"
Burying his Dugu 9 Jian manual under an epitaph, Dugu Qiubai felt he has left his legacy for the next generation. He then moved to Shaolin to study Buddhism, sweep floors and tap elite fighters.

This is a good point. How many great professional athletes have been lousy coaches? Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, and Magic Johnson were three of the greatest basketball players to have ever played the sport, but none of them were effective coaches because they had unrealistic expectations that *all* basketball players could play the game at their level. Kiu Fung was such a gifted fighter that he might have expected EVERYONE to be able to do what he did just as easily. When his students are unable to meet his expectations, he might lose patience with them. Being a good teacher means more than being an expert in the field that one is teaching; one must also be mindful of students' limitations, and be creative and flexible enough to find new ways of presenting the knowledge so that the students can process it more readily. This was where Ma Yuk was better than the Gong Nam 7 Freaks during Gwok Jing's martial arts training in LOCH.

I don't think he could, teaching doesn't seem to suit his character.

Not at all. He would constantly yell at her and scold her and berate her when she did bad things, but never really tried to 'correct' her in a kind, gentle way. He was always very contemptuous. Not the best learning environment.

Yea, to produce a great student will not only need a teacher with a great teaching methods, patient but a talented student who is interested with martial arts just like Ma Yuk & GJ.
Teacher & student must have a good realationship... Hehe, I wonder if H7G treats GJ like his friend??

Ah Zi was an impossible case. XF could have been a good martial art teacher, but then his fighting ability was instinctive, he wouldn't be able to explain things very well to his students.

GJ could have been an excellent teacher, but his students weren't interested and were shitheads.

Hehe, I wonder if H7G treats GJ like his friend??
I think it's more like a father-son relationship. That's my impression after reading LOCH.

I agree with you but my impression came after watching LOCH03 hehe..

Yea, looks like good relationship between teacher & student really important. YG and XLN relationship was very good too, no wonder YG can become a good fighter...
