What the hell? ATV doesn't release enough series, and TVB is releasing random crap !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (No offense to any of the Nadia Chan fans out there.)
ATV will release Reincarnated (1979) DVD soon, but don't expect the quality wiould be as good as TVB's.

EDIT: I just checked that Yesasia has Reincarnated DVD. It was released in 2007, hmmm........I wonder if there is any difference....
Perhaps the one on Yesasia is just a straight conversion from videocassettes, and the new edition will be re-mastered in HK (since I don't think my friend would give me false info.)

OT: Wait... so there's going to be a newly remastered version of Reincarnated soon? The ATV Reincarnated DVD on Yesasia is the US Asiaview/East Media Ent' one right? If so, that would be the one which many people have complained about. Bad quality with ridiculous price.

If there is a new version then it would be good news. Taiseng did just release one ATV series on DVD unabridged and I sensed that was an early sign that they might be finally be taking charge with ATV releases. Possibly see more form them in future.

Back on topic though, 'The Last Performance'??? Man, the randomness continues... yeah Ken's Ah Fook theory is official...

I recently bought Young Heroes of Shaolin and I just finished 7 eps. I really enjoy the series. Man Tung Wei can move. This show was made in 1981, so I expected really slow choreo, but I was wrong! The fighting is so awesome. It's fast and crisp. The shapes are done so nicely. The choreographer was Lam Moon Wah and I have no idea who that is. Whoever he is, he did a fine job.

About the DVD, I was really surprised with the transfer. The 16mm exterior shots were the usual blurry crap. The interior studio shots were a different story. I would say this is the best transfer and those interior shots haven't looked better. DGSD would be the one I saw that looks worst so far and this Young Heroes of Shaolin is the best looking for an 80s show.

Default How many episodes was the Legend of Book and Sword 1976?

Just asking a simple question, not worthy of its own thread that's why I am dumping it here.

I am probably not going to wait anymore for TVB to give this series the DVD treatment, seems like the only reason HSDS and LOCh and ROCh got the DVD rerelease was because of petitions. With that said, I just want to know how much would I be screwed by TVB's infamous VCD series truncation. Hope its not "the bund" treatment.

Just finished watching Key Man. I was impressed. I thought Alex Man delivered once again. Dicky Cheung really surprised me. He always gives me the impression that he's a comedian only actor, but this show really showed off his acting talents. He facial expression when he killed Ng Kai Ming was the best.

The DVD transfer was excellent. For once TVB didn't turn up the brightness for these old shows. I wish they would do that for all series.

As I've been watching the HSDS '86 DVDs recently, I've discovered that TVB redid the special effects on this series (which they didn't do for any of their other wuxia series). Many of the scenes depicting the characters using advanced martial arts (especially Tony Leung's Cheung Mo Gei using 9 Yeung Divine Skill or Keen Kwun Dai Loi Yee), which previously did not feature CGI effects, have been given new CGI effects. The odd thing is, however, it's very well-rendered. TVB didn't try to make it look anachronistic by using 2007-style CGI; instead, they went back and added 1986-style CGI to selected scenes (so there's no clash with the original CGI that was used back in '86)...and it looks pretty awesome.

R u sure?? Im pretty sure I remembered there was CGI in the old VHS tapes I use to watch. Most notable when Cheung Mo Gei was saving everybody from the pagoda.

There was CGI in the original 1986 tape, but it was not as extensively used as it is on the DVD and not nearly as vibrant. The new CGI on HSDS '86 really stands out.

Interesting Ken..I remember the CGI effects too, but they were very minimal.... Do you mind uploading some clips for us to see too?? I want to see how these new CGI effects are...Thanks
Respect other people's opinions and views. If we learn how to do that than all of these fights and arguments will not occur.

I'd love to do it, but I'm a dunce technically. Maybe Vindikkator would be so kind.

But I'll point you to a good scene for comparison: see the battle between Cheung Mo Gei and those Tibetan monks sent by Chiu Mun's father to capture him and Chiu Mun. Also, you'll see it during Battle of Gwong Ming Peak, during the fight against Chiu Mun's flunkies at Mt. Mo Dong, and the battle against the Persians aboard the ship. In many cases, there was already some CGI there from 1986, but these were enhanced or added to in the DVD remastering.

Well, FINALLY a better series out on DVD. Not quite a BUND-class classic, but a good series from the early 1980s nonetheless. That's more like it.

Hopefully, this is a sign that the great stuff is on the way.

nytimes: Every hr you have 10 minutes where you’re not doing anything productive at work, & you can’t look at porn. So you make a comment & fulfill this desire to show yourself off as a smarty-pants.

Young Heroes of Shaolin is good if ur mom is into the whole Shaolin thing plus 80s fight choreography which I'm really into. The storyline itself was pretty formulaic. The DVD transfer was decent and was too white on some of the exterior shots.

Rough Ride is great show. Highly recommended by me

Aw, cripes! It's clear that Ah Fook is in charge at TVB's DVD Department these days!

If you want to complain, you can try writing an email to TVBI ([email protected]), not TVB.

    More news:

The Bund DVD will be released when HK airs the China's remake version.

Meanwhile, how does TVB decide which series to release on DVD?
Well, here is the answer that I have received with regards to their marketing strategy:

Old series are mostly released for the mainland China market.
New series are mostly released for elsewhere, especially for young die hard fans (that always spend money obviously) of a specific actor/actress.
