    Sorry for the confusion.
From now on I will stick to the original 40 chapterings, with chops into smaller parts within each chapter for easier reference.

Do you meant you follow the chapterings (40 chapters) of the Chinese 2nd edition (like in Athena/Meh/Fairie Queene's translation)? Because the original 1st edition (Chinese) has I think probably 112 chapters.

I'm very interested in the details (in which year the Indonesian HSDS was published) because those old editions in my knowledge (so far) gave no clue of the year of publishing on them.

How do you know it (TLT - GanKL) was printed in 1961? Sorry about this nitpicking, but 1961 is impossible due to my calculation.

I'll give the chronology of publication of the BI translation of the Condor Trilogy:

Sin Tiauw Hiap Lu (BBT) - between August 1961 & 1962

Sia Tiauw Enghiong (BBT) - 1962 (began after 5 - 7 volumes of STHL had been published)

Kisah Membunuh Naga (BBT) & To Liong To (Gan KL) - At first I think it should be about 1963 because normally it should be published after STHL finished; due to your info it is possible that STHL & STEH already finished in the year 1962, and HSDS could began to be published.

May I know in what month the former owner signed your sample (TLT of GanKL) and which volume of the book was signed (btw, how many volumes the GanKL version consists of?)? Again sorry for this nitpicking.

    TIA

Yes I will have to resort to the 40 chapterings of the second edition because none of my HSDS books chaptered the story. I also decided to do this so that the readers here, who are used to the 40 chaptering system, can relate easier.

I know it was printed in 1961 because the year was printed at the back of the book. I can scan it and post here or on my HP.

Thanks for your information, I also have both Sin Tiauw Hiap Lu and Sia Tiauw Enghiong but I think mine were printed in the 1990's. I have not checked.

The former owner of the book signed it as "Tan Sing Hwat 18/II '62" meaning on 18th of February 1962, and he signed it on the second book. There are 29 books in all. I am now translating the second book where Zhang CuiSan was fighting with the Shaolin monks at Lin An.

Wait a sec, I will scan the signature too.

Hi Du Gu seeking a win,

Here is the back of the book with the year 1961

Now that I read again closely, the 1st of April 1961 was the year of the temporary permission (idzin sementara), but judging from the signature on the 18th of February 1962 on the second book, I concluded the first book should have been printed in late 1961, unless they printed the first book in January 1962.

    Here is the signature:

My elder brother knows Gan K.L.'s family and it was he who had helped me obtain these wuxia books in late 1990's.

    Kirara ,

It is a great work with this translation. Please go ahead and continue.....appreciate it.

It does not matter and wont make any differences either you combine or mixed it between GKL and OKT - since you will translating it into english. It will only make differences when we read it in bahasa, those master had different styles.

I am big fan of OKT, originally HSDS translated by OKT ( Kisah Membunuh Naga ) was end in Kisah Membunuh Naga II chapter 8. Chapter 9 is the final ending, but it stopped at chapter 8, chapter 9 never exist. Then somebody with his creative way, took final chapter from GKL translation and attached it into OKT translation. That is the whole story.

Yes, Mr. OKT got few pen name. Aulia is his first grand daugther name. but as far I know He never use Can, perhaps Chandra.

Great work again Kirara.....I have plan in my head to start working on translation, I will also choose one of OKT books.

    Thanks

Riding on his Ceng-cong-ma (green-white colored horse), he went down Mount WuDang. After about 25 miles or so, the day changed into night and dark clouds began to cover the sky. As soon as he entered an inn, the rain started to fall. The rain became harder with time, and it kept pouring all night long. The next day, he saw that the dark clouds still had not dispersed and the rain kept falling continuously. Because he was impatient to take revenge as soon as possible, he did not want to waste even a little time. Hurriedly he bought a raincoat and a rainhat from the inn's owner and continued his journey. Luckily Ceng-cong-ma was not an ordinary horse, so it could run fast despite the road being so muddy.

After passing Lao-ho-kouw, he crossed the Han-sui river whose water was flooding verociously down to lower planes. He rushed with Ceng-cong-ma down the river and after passing the cities of Xiangyang and Hoan-shia, he heard from the locals that down the Han-sui river, a dam had broken and the common people was suffering a big flood. That day he arrived on the city of Gi-sia, and saw a lot flood victims trying to escape from the flood, and all of these happening while the rain kept pouring down, so adding to the people's great distress.

As he was speeding on his horse, he saw a group of people ahead with an escort agency flag. Instantly he recognized them as the group of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency. He whipped Ceng-cong-ma, who then flew ahead and soon caught up with the group; and after passing them, he pulled the rein, turned his horse around, and blocked the road in front of them.

Seeing Zhang CuiSan, Du DaJin asked coldly: "Fifth Hero Zhang, why did you chase after us?"
"Didn't Escort Leader Du see the sufferings of the people whose houses were destroyed by the flood?" he asked back.
This question took Du DaJin by surprise. "What?" he asked, startled.
The young man laughed coldly: "I wish for the kind people to donate their gold to help ease the sufferings of the flood victims," he replied.
Escort Leader's face turned pale. "We are escort people who live each day earning our living by the tip of our weapons and risking our own life," he said angrily. "How could we afford to help so many people?"
"Give them your 2000 taels of gold in your pocket!" thundered Zhang CuiSan.
"Fifth Hero Zhang, are you trying to create trouble with me?" asked Du DaJin while gripping the hilt of his sabre.
Escorts Zhu and Shi also quickly pulled out their weapons and stayed near their leader.

Remaining bare-handed, Zhang CuiSan laughed and said coldly: "Escort Leader Du, ask yourself. After pocketing the reward, have you really accomplished your task? Hm! You still have the face to take the 2000 taels of gold!"
Du DaJin's face turned purple, because he felt both ashamed and furious. "Haven't we taken him to Mount WuDang alright?" he tried to defend himself. "Before we accepted the task, he was already seriously injured. And now he is not dead either."
"Rubbish!" he yelled. "Were Third Brother Yu's arms and legs already broken when he left Lin An?"
    Du DaJin could not answer.
"Fifth Hero Zhang," Escort Shi cut in. "What is it that you want? Say it openly."

"I want to break the bones of your arms and legs!" he yelled while leaping forward to attack. Escort Shi raised his staff to ward him off, but he was too late. Fast as lightning, Zhang CuiSan's left hand slashed down and the staff flew away while Escort Shi fell down from his horse. In that movement, Zhang CuiSan was using the character "tian" (heaven) from the new kung fu he just learned.

Escort Zhu tried to escape the attack but he was also too late, because CuiSan's hand had swept at his waist in the horizontal movement of the character "tian", and both he and his horse were thrown away for about 2-3 meters and landed with his back onto the ground. When he was being attacked, Escort Zhu's feet were firmly in the horse's stirrups, and when the opponent hit forcefully using a great Internal Strength, the leather keeping the saddle on the horse snapped off and was thrown away along with his body, with his feet still in the stirrups.

Seeing how fierce and powerful the attacks were, Du DaJin charged forward with his horse. Turning his body around, CuiSan hit using the character "hee" (under). "Buk!" this blow hit Du DaJin's back and his body swayed. Because his kung fu was much superior than his two friends, he did not fall off his horse. Determined to fight with his life, he jumped off his horse, but suddenly he felt something rose up his throat and "Uahhh!" he vomited some blood. Zhang CuiSan's blow was very powerful, so although Du DaJin was big and strong, he could not stand it. Hurriedly Du DaJin organized his breathing, but he felt his chest was stuffy while his blood came rushing up again, so however strong he was, he just couldn't bear it anymore. He staggered for a few steps before his legs felt weak and dropped down sitting on the ground. The 3 other escorts and the agency's attendants were shocked and did not dare to move.

When he just saw the escort agency group on his way, Zhang CuiSan was boiling with anger and wanted to break the escorts' arms and legs. But after seeing how easily he could defeat them and how Du DaJin was internally wounded, his heart softened and he did not want to harm them anymore. He had not expected that the new kung fu he had just learned was that powerful.

"Escort Du!" he yelled. "Today I'll be lenient on you. Take out the 2000 taels of gold now to help the flood victims. I will watch you from a distance and if you dare to hide even just one tael in your pocket, I will kill your 72 people in the Dragon Gate Escort Agency, old and young, including all your chickens and all your dogs!"
He threatened them by imitating the words used by the mysterious person who had paid 2000 taels of gold to take Yu DaiYan to Mount WuDang.

Slowly Du DaJin got up, but he felt his back extremely painful, and the moment he moved, again he vomitted some blood. Escort Shi, who was just hurt slightly, knew that they were no match to Zhang CuiSan, and so he did not dare to challenge him anymore. He said weakly: "Fifth Hero Zhang, although we had received the reward, but we have met with a big trouble on the way, so we have to return the gold to that person. Besides, the gold was left in Lin An; being in travel like now, how can we find money to help the flood victims?"

Zhang CuiSan laughed coldly. "Do you think I'm a kid?" he asked with a mocking tone. "The whole kung fu experts of Dragon Gate Escort Agency had left their home, in Lin An only your family are left and they certainly cannot protect the treasure. That gold must be here." While saying this, he swept the whole group with his eyes. Suddenly he approached a carriage and hit it with his hand. "Blang!" the carriage's wall broke and some gold pieces fell down to the ground!

Everyone turned pale. They could not understand how the young man knew that the gold was in that carriage. In fact, although he was young, Zhang CuiSan was very intelligent, observant, and experienced. He noticed that different from the other carriages, the cart wheels of that particular carriage were all covered with mud, indicating that they had gone deeper into the muddy road because of its additional weight. He also noticed that after defeating Du DaJin, the 3 younger escorts went to protect that carriage rather than protecting their own leader. From these, he could conclude that this carriage was heavier than other carriages and also it must contain something precious. He looked at those pieces of gold on the ground, laughing coldly; then without saying any word, he jumped onto his horse and went quickly away.

As he was continuing his journey, his heart felt very happy. He thought that those escorts would not dare to disobey his order, for fear of their families' safety. Part of his happiness was also caused by his finding out that the new kung fu based on the 24 characters were very powerful. As he rode on, he tried to remember again each movement and changes or variations of the 24 characters "Yie-tian-tu-long". It was really beyond his expectation that it was so amazing. No wonder if he became so happy, more than winning the most precious treasure.

Under the heavy rain, he kept going without stopping for several days. Although his horse was an unusual horse, but its strength was not without limit. Therefore, when they arrived at the border of Shan Xi province, some white foam came out from its mouth, and it was running a fever. Cui San loved his horse very much, so seeing this, he felt much regret. He got off from the horse and walked slowly together with it. Then he stopped at an inn and gave the horse some medicines; after a few days, the horse's fever went down. After his horse recovered, he continued his journey, but slowly now. This way, it was already the 30th of the 4th month when he arrived at the city of Lin An.

After renting a room at an inn, he considered what step he should take next. "Because my horse fell ill, I arrived very late," he thought. "I wonder if the Dragon Gate Escort Agency group had returned home? And where are Second Brother and Seventh Brother? Let me check on the Agency's residence tonight."

After dinner, he asked an inn's attendant about the location of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency, and found out that it was standing by the lake of See-ouw. Then he went out to the city market to buy himself a set of new clothes, a literary scholar's hat, and a famous Hang Zhou fan. Then he went back to the inn, took a bath, combed his hair, and put on his new clothes. When he stood in front of the mirror and looked at his own reflection, he laughed with amusement. The reflection was one of a refined literary scholar, not a martial art expert whose name had shaken the martial realm. Smiling, he borrowed some stationaries from the inn's worker to write a poem on his fan. Spontaneously, what he wrote was the words from "Yie-tian Tu-long". He marveled when he noticed how each stroke he wrote on the fan was stronger and yet more beautiful than before. "After learning that new kung fu, my calligraphy skill has improved a lot." he thought. Fanning himself with his fan slowly, he walked out towards See-oh.

At that time. the Sung dynasty had fallen and the whole China was under the power of the Goan Dynasty. Because Lin An used to be the capital of Lam-song (Southern Song), the Mongolians put very strict guard over this city compared with other cities. They ruled with iron hands, so that in their fear, a lot of its inhabitants moved out of the city. That's why along the way he saw rows of ruined houses as a result of battles, or empty houses because the owners had deserted them to move out of the city. The almost empty city looked quite pitiful; gone were the well-known properity and beauty it used to have when it was still the capital of the Southern Sung dynasty in the beautiful Kang-lam region.

The day had not turned dark yet, but a lot of houses had closed their doors and on the road, not many ordinary people could be seen anymore. What CuiSan could see was only the Mongolian soldiers patrolling the city on horseback. Because he did not wish to meet with trouble, he always avoided those Mongolian soldiers by hiding himself.

In the past, when the day became dark, usually the lake of See-ouw was very lively and the whole lake was adorned by the lights of the sightseeing boats. But now, when he arrived at Pek-tee and looked far across the lake, he could only see darkness, an eerie darkness, and not a single boat could be seen. He sighed many times, and following the direction from the inn's attendant, he walked to the residence of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency.

The residence turned out to be very large, and was facing the lake of See-ouw, while the two stone lions sitting on each side of the front door added to its grandeur. Zhang CuiSan approached the building slowly. Suddenly he saw a sightseeing boat at the bank of the lake, just in front of the building. In the boat, there were two silk lanterns and under those lanterns a man was seen sitting alone drinking some wine.

"How enjoyable it is to drink wine on the water," thought Zhang CuiSan while walking to the front door. The big lantern hanging in front of the door had its candle unlit, whereas the red-painted door was closed tightly. It seemed that the inhabitants were already asleep. "A month ago, Third Brother also walked through this door, I wonder who had brought him here?" he thought feeling sad. Suddenly he was startled, because he could hear someone taking a deep sigh behind him.

In the middle of the night, the sigh sounded eerie and heart-wrenching. Quickly he turned around, but he could not see anyone nor even his shadow. Except the man sitting alone drinking wine in the boat, there was no other people in the vicinity. Feeling puzzled, he observed the man, who was doning a green thungsha (a long robe) and a square hat, in the fashion of a literary scholar just like Cui San himself. He could not see the man's face clearly, but looking from the side, with the help of the lanterns' light, his face looked very pale. Surrounded by the rays of the lanterns reflected back by the lake with the greenish foams, the boat looked ghostly in the darkness. That man was sitting unmoving as if lost in thought, and the only movement was just his sleeves which were blowing in the wind.

After observing him for a while, he turned his body around again and taking the copper ring of the door, he knocked it against the door 3 times. In fact he had wanted to enter by jumping over the wall, but after seeing the person in the boat, he felt ashamed to sneak in like that, thinking that it was not the action of a real man. The sound of the knocks were loud and after knocking, he put his ear to the door; but it was all quiet inside, and there were no sound of footsteps approaching the door. After waiting for quite a long time, there was no response still, so he knocked again for 3 more times, this time louder; but the house remained quiet.

Feeling puzzled, he pushed the door lightly and...the door opened. He immediately stepped inside and said loudly: "Is Escort Leader Du at home?" He walked on until the middle part of the house, which was very dark. Suddenly a sound "blang!" broke the silence, and the door behind him closed as if blown by the wind.

Startled, he leapt out of the room and went to the front door. He was surprised when he saw that the door was locked from inside. It was obvious that there was someone in the house. But being a good kung fu expert, he did not feel scared. Laughing coldly, he walked back to the middle room.

He just walked a few steps when suddenly he felt the strong rush of wind coming from his front, his back, his right and his left. With one jump, he evaded the attacks of the 4 sneaky assailants. In the darkness, he could see the flashing of white lights, indicating that they were using sabres as weapon. Fast as lightning, he leapt to the west and his right palm hit one of them horizontally from right to left. "Plak!" His palm accurately hit that person's Tay-yang acupoint and he fell to the floor instantly. Almost at the same time, his left palm swooshed diagonally from top-right to bottom-left and accurately hit another person's waist, who also instantly fell down to the floor. These two movements comprised of one horizontal stroke and one diagonal stroke of the character "put" (no). After sucessfully defeating two of the 4 assailants, he hit again in a straight line from top to bottom followed by one acupoint seal forming a dot - these are a straight line and a dot from the character "put" - and the other two assailants instantly joined their two friends falling onto the floor. So he had defeated the sneaky assailants with 3 strokes and 1 dot of the character "put".

Since he had no idea who those 4 assailants were, Zhang CuiSan did not act ruthlessly and he just used 3/10 of his internal strength. The fourth person whose acupoint was sealed staggered a few steps backward and his body slammed into a chair which broke instantly. "Beast! How cruel you are!" he swore at him. "If you're a real man, leave your name."

"If I were cruel, you would be dead by now," he said while laughing. "I'm Zhang CuiSan from WuDang Clan."
The person gasped. "Are....are you really Silver Hook Iron Brush Zhang CuiSan?" he asked in disbelief.
Smiling, the 5th Hero's hands went to his waist and in a second, his left hand was holding the Houw-tauw-kauw silver hook whereas his right hand was holding the Poan-koan-pit iron brush. He clapped the two weapons against each other, resulting in a loud sound accompanied by a few sparks of light.

With the help of these sparks of fire, Zhang CuiSan could see that all the 4 assailants were wearing yellow Buddhist monk robes. Two of them, whose faces were bloody, glared at him with anger and intense hatred in their eyes, as if they wanted to skin him and eat him alive.
CuiSan became very puzzled. "May I know your Honorable names, Big Monks?" he asked.

"You owe us a pain debt as deep as the ocean; but we cannot revenge on you today!" one of them yelled. "Let's go!" As soon as he finished talking, all of them jumped up and walked out. One of them, perhaps more heavily wounded, could not walk straight; he staggered and fell down to the floor. Two of his friends had to return to carry him and then they went out again without looking back anymore. "The four misters! Wait a minute!" shouted CuiSan. "What pain debt....?" But the four monks ignored him and disappeared after jumping over the wall.

Zhang CuiSan felt very confused and puzzled. For a while he stood there thinking hard, but he could not get it. Why would there be 4 monks hiding themselves in the residence of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency? Why did they attack him without any reason? Why did they say "pain debt as deep as the ocean"? "To get the answers to these questions, the only way is to ask the people of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency," he thought.

Thinking this way, he quickly shouted: "Is Escort Leader Du at home? Is Escort Leader Du here?" But although he had shouted many times, there was no reply. "They couldn't be sleeping like dead bodies," he said in his heart. "Or are they all hiding in fear of me? Or have they all escaped and this house is really empty?" He quickly took out a match and lit it, so that the dark room became a bit bright. Then he went to a tea table and took the candle standing on its ciaktay (candle holder) and lit it up. Then cautiously, while carrying the ciaktay, he walked to the back part of the house.

After walking for about 15-16 steps, suddenly he saw a woman's figure lying on the floor, as if she was asleep. "Toaci (Big Sister), why are you sleeping there?" he asked. He bent down and with his left hand he pushed her shoulder to turn her over, while his right hand held the candle over her face. Suddenly he gasped.

The woman was smiling, but her muscles were all stiff! She had been dead for quite a while. Slowly he straightened himself up and once again he was shocked, because in front of the pillar on the right there was another human figure lying on the floor. He approached the body to check it, and found out that the person, who was an old man wearing a servant's outfit, was also dead with a smiling face!

With his heart pounding fast, Zhang CuiSan's hand reached out to his waist; with his silver hook in his left hand and raising the ciaktay high in his right hand, he proceeded to walk step by step. His shock and wonder were boundless, as what he saw were just dead bodies, more than 60-70 dead corpses scattered around. In the whole large residence of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency, there was nobody alive except himself.

Zhang CuiSan was a well-known hero who had often experienced various tragedies. But this time, witnessing the utmost cruelty of this massacre of fellow humans, he shivered. His own shadow on the wall was swaying too, because his hand holding the ciaktay was trembling, so his shadow also trembled along with it.

Suddenly he remembered the threat made by the person who had hired The Dragon Gate Escort Agency to take his elder martial brother to Mount WuDang. "...If you fail to do your task, I will kill the 71 people in your household, including all your chickens and all your dogs...". This massacre must be connected with Du DaJin's failure to protect Yu DaiYan to Mount WuDang. "This person had been so ruthless for Third Brother Yu's sake, so he must be a friend of Third Brother's." he thought. "This person's kung fu skill is higher than Du DaJin's. He knew that along the way to Mount WuDang there would be a lot of troubles, so why didn't he come out and protect Third Brother himself? Also, Third Brother is a noble person who hates every evil deed, how come he has a friend as heartless as this?"

With growing puzzlement, he stepped out from the room and walked to the west side. With the help of the candlelight, he could see 2 monks wearing yellow robes leaning on the wall; they were looking at him with smiling faces. He came to them and yelled while being ready with his weapon: "Why did the two of you come here?" But they did not reply and also did not move. Soon he realized that they were also corpses! He came nearer to check, only to find out that the two monks' bodies were half buried in the wall, obviously they had been hit by a very strong force that made them sink into the wall.

When he checked their bodies further, he found out that there were no wounds on them, except that on their Siauw-yauw acupoint (acupoint that makes a person laugh if sealed), there was a red tiny mark. He nodded his head several times, now understanding why the corpses were smiling.

Suddenly he remembered something and felt eerie. "Oh no!" he groaned. "Pain debt as deep as the ocean...." He remembered the cursing said by one of the 4 monks who had attacked him. It seemed that this blood debt of killing the whole household of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency would be put on his shoulder to pay back. Not only he had told them his name, but he also showed them his two famous weapons, the Silver Hook and the Iron Brush. But who were those four yellow-robed monks?

His previous attack movement was so fast that with only one character "put" he could defeat the four monks, so he had had little chance to figure out their kung fu. But he could judge from the strong wind coming out from their sneak attacks that their blows were based on very strong and direct Internal Energy typical of Shaolin School of kung fu. Du DaJin was a disciple of Shaolin Clan, so perhaps he had invited these monks to help him; but where had Second Brother and Seventh Brother gone? Their teacher had asked them to protect the whole household of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency. Was it possible that because the enemy was so powerful, they had also been defeated?

It should be Shan and not San for Zhang CuiShan.
But it will take too much time to correct the past postings.
Also, I might mix up the pin yin and Hokkienese names by carelessness or ignorance.
    Sorry about that.

Wow, I did not know that! Thanks! I took out both the last chapters by both translators to compare the wordings, and yes the ending of OKT is the ending of Gan K.L.! Almost word by word!
Could you tell me exactly where O.K.T stopped? Thanks, because I have no idea which is chapter 8 or 9. I have different publications with no chapterings.
I wonder if any of the publishers mentioned this, and gave credit to Gan K.L., though.

Yes, Mr. OKT got few pen name. Aulia is his first grand daugther name. but as far I know He never use Can, perhaps Chandra.
Now that I read what you said, it could be that the publisher used the name without O.K.T's acknowledgement? That is not fair to O.K.T.
    I scanned it below.

"IF" the former owner bought the second book and signed it the exact day it came out for the public, it would mean that the first book came out a week before 18 February 1962, not in 1961.

I am wondering if you are doing a scholar research on this.

I checked all my wuxia novels and counted I have 25 different stories written by Jin Yong, Gu Long, and Jang Ih Tzen (Liang Ie sen), translated by Gan K.L., O.K.T, and G.K.H.
I have not read most of them, and I am confused what original titles they are in Chinese, or English. I just know a few.

I found out I still have yet another set, newer one, of HSDS by Gan K.L. It seems to be the reprint of the 1961/1962 version.
And thanks to you, now I know that the old one I have is a first printing, I will take better care of it.

The more he mulled over the puzzle, the more puzzling it became. "When those 4 monks return to their temple, Shaolin Clan would certainly suspect me," he thought. "But in the end everything will be clear. One day, we will learn who that cruel person is. Shaolin and WuDang must cooperate to find him. What's more urgent now is to look for Second Brother and Seventh Brother first." Deciding this, he quickly blew the candle off and left the residence by jumping over the wall.

But before his feet touched the ground, suddenly he felt a strong wind rushed to his waist, followed by a thundering yell: "Zhang CuiShan! Fall!"
At that time, his body was still in the air, so he could not evade it. But in danger, 5th Hero Zhang did not become confused. Fast like lightning, his left hand pressed the enemy's weapon down; and borrowing its strength, his body very lightly bounced up again and his feet landed safely on the wall! He had never thought that the new kung fu of the 24 characters from "yi-tian tu-long" he learned was so deep and yet vast that in a moment of danger, his body could so lightly fly up avoiding the enemy's most powerful attack, with just using a few strokes of a character.
As his feet landed on the wall, his hands already held his two weapons.

Seeing how able the young man was, the attacker was startled and awed, that he exclaimed in surprise and said: "Kid! You're really good!"

With his left hand holding the silver hook and his right hand holding his iron brush, Cui Shan crossed his two weapons in front of his chest, with the hook and the tip of the brush pointing downward. This was the Kiong-leng-kauw-hui (Respectfully asking for your guidance), a pose in the martial realm adopted whenever someone was going to fight an older opponent, or someone of a higher status. As a martial expert who obeys his Clan's rule to always respect an older person, he still followed this courtesy although actually he felt very angry, thinking that if he had not had learned that calligraphy kung fu from his teacher, perhaps the bones of his waist would have been broken to pieces.

Looking down in the darkness, he saw 2 monks wearing red robes embroidered with gold thread standing side by side; and each of them was holding a Sian-thung (staff) which emitted golden rays of light. Seeing the color of the robes, CuiShan was startled, and thought: "Looking at the red robes with gold thread they are wearing, could they be from the famous Shaolin Cap-peh Luo-han (18 luo-hans from Shaolin) of Shaolin Clan?"

The monk on the left used his staff to hit the green stone on the ground, producing a very loud sound. "Zhang CuiShan!" he thundered. "The 7 Heroes of WuDang has a decent reputation. But why are you so vicious and cruel?"

Hearing the monk addressed him by his name directly instead of the normal "5th Hero Zhang" or "5th Mister Zhang", CuiShan felt irritated. Among the 7 Heroes of WuDang, despite his polite behavior and his smooth complexion, he was the most proud. In his irritation, he quickly replied coldly: "Without asking first who's right and who's wrong, Big Monks were hiding behind the wall and attacked me sneakily. Is that the behaviour of an honorable martial expert? I heard that Shaolin's martial arts had shaken the whole world, but I never expected that their sneaking arts is also very exceptional."

The monk became furious. He roared once, then with one jump he flew onto the wall but before his feet even landed on the wall, his staff already attacked. Quickly CuiShan raised his silver hook in front of his chest to ward the staff off while at the same time his iron brush poked the enemy's weapon. "Trang!", the tip of the iron brush forcefully met with the staff. The monks arms trembled and his body flew back to the ground; but Zhang CuiShan's arms also felt numb so he was startled. He realized that he was dealing with someone possessing a high level of kung fu, and if both of them attacked him together, most probably he wouldn't be able to defend himself. "Who are you two misters? Please let me know." he yelled.

"Pinceng (I the poor monk) is Yuan Yin," answered the monk standing on the right side. "And this is my martial younger brother, Yuan Ye."
Hurriedly CuiShan pointed his two weapons downward and bringing both hands together, he said: "Ah! So two Big Monks are from Shaolin Cap-peh Luo-han. I have long heard of your great name and I feel fortunate I can meet you today. What kind of teachings are you going to give me?"

"This matter is related directly with Shaolin Clan and WuDang Clan," answered Yuan Yin. "Both of us only have lowly position in Shaolin Temple so in fact we should not meddle into this matter. But because we have met anyway, let me ask you why did Fifth Hero Zhang kill the whole people of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency and our two martial nephews? People say that the human soul is related to Heaven, so now we wish to know, how will Fifth Hero take responsibility for this matter?"
These words, although said softly, reached loud and clear in the ears, it is obvious that his Internal Strength was more superior than his younger brother. And though he sounded modest and polite, what he said was giving CuiSan more pressure, it seemed that he was smarter than his short-tempered younger brother.

Zhang CuiShan laughed coldly. "I'm also puzzled by the massacre of the people of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency," he replied. "Besides, I also don't understand why as soon as Big Monk spoke, Big Monk accused me already. Did Big Monk witnessed with your own eyes that I have killed them?"

"Hui Feng!" yelled Yuan-Yin. "Come out and give your account in front of Fifth Hero Zhang."
From behind the trees over there, came out 4 monks, whom CuiSan had defeated inside the residence of the Dragon Gate Agency.

The monk with the title Hui Feng bowed and said: "Reporting to Martial Uncle, that several tens of people from the Dragon Escort Agency, Elder Brothers Hui Tong and Hui Guang....they...they were all killed by that crook named Zhang."
"Did you see it with your own eyes?" asked Yuan Yin.
"Yes, I saw it with my own eyes," he replied. "If we had not run away fast, he would have killed the 4 of us too."
"The Great Buddha's disciple must not lie." said Yuan Ying sternly. "This matter involves both Shaolin Clan and WuDang Clan, two big clans in the martial world, so you must not speak carelessly."
Hui Feng quickly went down on his knees and brought his two hands together. "I do not dare to lie to Martial Uncle and what I said is the real fact of what happened. For this, the Great Buddha is my witness that I am telling the truth."
"Tell us what it was you have seen with your own eyes," ordered Yuan Ying. Hearing this, Zhang CuiShan jumped down to the ground.

Yuan Ye thought that the young man was going to attack Hui Feng, so he quickly hit him with his staff. CuiShan ducked his head to avoid the attack and then with one leap, he was behind Hui Feng. According to the move Hok-mo-thung (Devil-Defeating Staff), after missing the target, Yuan Ye should follow with another attack toward the opponent's shoulder. But seeing that he could not do it without hurting his martial nephew first, he was forced to retract his staff back. "What are you going to do?" he yelled.
"I just want to listen to his story," answered CuiShan.

Hui Feng knew that if he liked, Zhang CuiShan could easily kill him because he was just about half a meter behind him, and his two martial uncles would not be able to save him. But in his anger, he did not become scared and quickly explained in a loud voice: "When he was in Kang-pak (Northern part of the Great River), Martial Uncle Yuan Xin received a letter from Elder Brother Du DaJin to help him. As soon as he read the letter, immediately Martial Uncle ordered Elder Brothers Hui Tong and Hui Guang to come here to help. Then he ordered me to take these 3 Younger Brothers to come here too. When we arrived, Elder Brother Hui Guang told us that the enemy might attack tonight so he asked the 4 of us to hide behind the wall on the east side. He also warned us not to leave our place and not to fall under the enemy's trap of 'luring the tiger to come out of the mountain' (diversion)."

"Then, what happened? Tell us quickly." Yuan Yin couldn't wait anymore.
"After it got dark, suddenly we heard Elder Brother Hui Tong' shouts as he was fighting, followed quickly by his scream, as if he was heavily wounded. Hurriedly I ran to the place, and saw him....him...this crook named Zhang...!" Speaking until here, suddenly he jumped up from his knees and pointed at Zhang CuiShan's face until his finger almost touched his nose, while shouting: "With my own eyes I saw you pushed Elder Brother Hui Guang who instantly died after his body crashed into the wall. Because I realized that I was no match for you, I hid myself outside the window and saw how you entered the house. Not long after that, you ran out again from the back of the house, chasing 8 persons from the Agency who were trying to flee from the back. They were all killed by your acupoint kung fu, and after you killed every single person in the house, you left by jumping over the wall."

Zhang CuiShan stood unmoving although as he spoke, the person's saliva was like rain sprinkling onto his face. "Then?" asked CuiSahn coldly.
"Then?" thundered Hui Feng enraged. "Then I returned to the wall on the east to discuss about it with my 3 Younger Brothers. We were sure that your kung fu was too good for us so the only way was to wait for the arrival of the 3 Martial Uncles to the Agency's residence. But unexpectedly you came back again to look for Escort Leader Du. Although we knew that it was useless to fight you and we would die in your hands, we are not cowards, so we quickly attacked you. When I asked you, didn't you introduce yourself as Silver Hook Iron Brush Zhang CuiShan? At first I could not believe it. I thought as one of the Seven Heroes of WuDang, you could not have done such a hideous cruelty. But soon you showed us your two weapons, so it is impossible that you're a fake Zhang CuiShan."

"True, it was me who had introduced myself and showed you my weapons," said CuiShan. "And it is true that I had defeated the 4 of you. But tell me again. Can you tell me again, how with your own eyes, you had seen me, Zhang CuiShan, killing all those tens of people?"

At that moment, suddenly Yuan Yin waved his sleeve, and the wind from it pushed Hui Feng's body some safe distance away. "Yes! Tell us once again, so that the well-known Fifth Hero Zhang cannot deny it anymore," he said very sternly. He pushed Hui Feng away to protect him, in case in his anger, CuiShan would kill him to shut his mouth.

"Alright," said Hui Feng. "I will confirm once again. Please listen. With my own eyes, I saw you killed Elder Brothers Hui Guang and Hui Tong. With my own eyes, I saw you killed 8 persons of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency using acupoint kung fu."

"Did you see my face clearly?" asked CuiShan with a scary voice. "What kind of clothes was I wearing? This same one?" While saying this, he lit up a match to light up his face.

Hui Feng looked at him and said with hatred in his eyes: "No mistake! The same clothes, long robe and square hat. At that time you were holding a fan, and now that fan is tucked inside your collar."
CuiSan became so furious, he did not understand why this monk lied to slander him like that. Raising his match high, he took two steps forward and yelled loudly: "If you dare, say it once again that I, Zhang CuiShan, was the one who killed them, not somebody else!"

Suddenly the monk's eyes changed, they showed surprise. He pointed at him and shouted: "You...! You....!" All of a sudden his body fell back and dropped to the ground. Simultaneously, while exclaiming with surprise, Yuan Yin and Yuan Ye jumped forward to save him, but Hui Feng was already dead, with his eyes wide open and his facial expression was one of confusion and surprise.
"Ha? You...! You've killed him!" Yuan Ye yelled furiously.

This turn of event did not only shock Yuan Yin and Yuan Ye, but also Zhang CuiShan. He turned his head behind him and his observant eyes could see some branches over there were swaying slightly. "Don't run away!" he yelled while leaping towards the trees.

He knew this action was dangerous, because the enemy, who was hiding, could launch a sneak attack on him. But to wash himself off the accusation, he must catch the killer. But as his body was still in the air, Yuan Yin and Yuan Se already attacked him with their staffs from his left and right. Quickly he pushed Yuan Ye's staff away with his silver hook and poked Yuan Yin's staff with his iron brush, and borrowing the force, he bounced up again and landed on the wall. His eyes quickly looked at the bushes over there. The branches still swayed slightly, but the person hiding behind them already disappeared.

Roaring in anger and sweeping with his staff, Yuan Ye was prepared to jump up onto the wall. "You two Big Monks don't hinder me! Let's chase that killer!" yelled CuiShan.

"You...you have killed him in front of my eyes," yelled Yuan Yin, panting. "Are you still trying to deny it?" Yuan Ye tried to jump onto the wall several times, but CuiShan always managed to ward him off the wall.
"Fifth Hero Zhang, it's not that we want to kill you," said Yuan Yin. "We just want you to leave your weapons, and go with us to Shaolin Temple."

"Really crazy!" yelled CuiShan angrily. "Because you two hindered me, the real killer could get away. And now you want me to follow you to Shaolin Temple? Why should I go to Shaolin Temple?"
"So that our Great Abbot can decide on this matter," he replied. "You have consecutively killed 3 of our Temple's disciples. This matter is too big for the two of us to decide by ourselves."

CuiShan laughed coldly. "Hmph!" he snorted. "It is useless for you to be a member of the Shaolin Cap-peh Luo-han. The killer escaped in front of your nose, and you still don't realize it."

"Aiya!" said Yuan Yin sadly and regretfully. "Whatever you said, you have killed them, today we can't let you go."
Being persistently accused, CuiShan became more and more angry. "Big Monk," he said, laughing coldly. "If you have good kung fu, you can try arresting me!"

Yuan Ye hit the ground with his stuff and his body leapt up. CuiShan also leapt up using his Lightness kung fu which was far superior than Yuan Ye's, and as his body flew down, he stabbed downward real fast. Crossing his staff in front of his chest, Yuan Ye tried to ward it off but CuiShan's hook changed direction and lightly hooked Yuan Ye's shoulder. Blood came out and shouting in pain, Yuan Ye fell down to the ground. In this attack, CuiShan showed mercy. Had he aimed at Yuan Ye's throat, he would have died.

"Younger Brother Ye!" shouted Yuan Yin. "Are you heavily wounded?"
"No! Don't just talk! You still have not attacked? What are you waiting for?" he replied in rage.
Hearing what his martial brother said, Yuan Yin began to attack, jumping around; and soon after that, without tending his wound, Yuan Ye came forward to help him. Seeing that the two monks had powerful strength while their staffs were also heavy, CuiShan knew that if the two monks managed to jump onto the wall, he would be in trouble. Because of this, he did his best to prevent the two monks from jumping onto the wall. Fighting from above facing two opponents below, he was winning the upper hand, so that even after a long time, none of the monks managed to jump up onto the wall. As to the 3 monks with "Hui" in their titles, their kung fu was far inferior, so eventhough they saw that their 2 martial uncles could not defeat the enemy, they did not dare to come forward to help.

"What's more important now is for me to find out who the killer is, so what's the use of fighting them now?" CuiShan thought. Soon he ward off the opponents' attacking weapons with a closing movement to end the fight, then shouting loudly, he was going to jump down and go away. But before he could jump down, suddenly a thunderous yell was heard and the wall he was standing on suddenly collapsed, after being hit by somebody! Before his two feet could stand on the ground, a burly monk came from the other side of the broken wall and tried to grab both his weapons.

In the darkness, CuiShan could not see the monk's face clearly, but seeing his ten fingers were spread out like some hooks, he knew that the monk had attacked him using Houw-jiauw-kang (Tiger Claw Hit), one of Shaolin's famous technique.
"Elder Brother Xin!" yelled Yuan Ye. "Don't let this creep escape!" It seems that the newcomer was Yuan Xin, one of the Shaolin Peh-cap Luo-han.

Since Zhang CuiShan came out in the martial world, he seldom met his match, Moreover after mastering the new kung fu Yi-tian tu-long, his martial skill had improved a lot and he gained more confidence. Seeing how the 3 monks attacked him so fiercely, he felt irritated and his will to show off and to test his new skill was awakened. He quickly slipped his silver hook and iron brush to his waist and yelled: "If you want to fight, fine, let's fight! Even if all of 18 Shaolin Cap-peh Luo-han come together, I won't flinch!" At the moment, Yuan Xin's left hand clawed at him. Evading it, his hand moved and..."Rrrrt!" the monk's sleeve was torn apart. Angrily, Yuan Xin tried to claw his shoulder, but before his fingers could touch his shoulder, his knee was already kicked forcefully by CuiShan.

Unexpectedly, Yuan Xin's legs were extremely strong. Though the kick was accurate, his body just swayed a little and he did not fall to the ground. Roaring loudly, his right hand clawed again while Yuan Yin and Yuan Ye's staffs attacked CuiShan's waist and head. However, despite these 3 attacks, CuiShan did not lose his composure. With one high jump, he could save himself from the 3 attacks.

While fighting, CuiShan thought: "In these recent years, both WuDang Clan and Shaolin Clan are equivalent in terms of good reputation in the martial world. But it is not clear whose martial arts is better or worse because no one ever tested it yet. Today is a good chance to test it, let me try how good these Shaolin monks are." He gathered his energy and fought the 3 monks carefully. Quickly he used his hands to slash and sweep and cut and poke here and there, while his body lithely jumped around among the two staffs and a pair of claws. After a few more moves, although he was attacked by 3 opponents at the same time, gradually he gained the upper hand.

Actually, the martial arts of Shaolin Clan and WuDang Clan had each their own forte and characteristics. WuDang Clan emerged from Zhang SanFeng, an exceptional and excellent kung fu master who's hard to find: whereas Shaolin Clan had developed its martial arts and seasoned it for more than a thousand years, and so it is also extremely powerful. It had to be taken into consideration that in WuDang Clan, Zhang CuiShan was already a first rank kung fu expert, while Yuan Yin, Yuan Xin, and Yuan Ye, although having a high status as the members of Shaolin Cap-peh Luo-han, were just second-rank kung fu experts in Shaolin Temple. Because of this, after fighting for a while, instead of getting cornered, Zhang CuiShan became stronger.

After a few more moves, suddenly the young man attacked by writing the character "long" (dragon). His hand grabbed Yuan Ye's staff using "Borrow Strength, Return Strength" technique, and used it to meet Yuan Yin's staff. The clash between the two staffs resulted in a deafening sound. The strength of the two two monks were already very powerful, therefore, with Zhang CuiShan's added strength, the collision was extremely forceful. Yuan Yin and Yuan Ye's palms were both skinned off and were bleeding, their arms felt numb, while their staffs curved! Shocked, Yuan Xin attacked forward to help. Seeing his fierce attack, CuiShan evaded it while his foot crossed in front of Yuan Xin's legs to trip him, and at the same time his hand tapped the monk's back. This tap was again using "Borrow Strength, Return Strength", namely he just tapped his back following Yuan Xin's own natural movement while attacking. Naturally Yuan Yin fell face down to the ground.

Laughing coldly, CuiShan said: "Hmph, if you want to arrest me, maybe you'll need to learn another 10 years first." Then he turned around and was going to leave.

"Creep! Don't try to escape!" yelled Yuan Xin suddenly while jumping up from the ground. Yuan Yin and Yuan Ye also soon started to run after him. Seeing the 3 monks wouldn't give up, CuiShan felt a bit confused. Of course never meant to harm them. Therefore, he quickly gathered his energy and ran using his Lightness kung fu. But the 3 monks kept running after him while yelling loudly.

"These 3 monks are really some bothersome pests, but I shouldn't kill them of course," thought CuiShan, with a mixed feeling of irritation and yet amusement. He felt amused because he was sure they woudn't be able to catch up with him. After a while, they kept chasing him, and though Yuan Xin's and Yuan Ye's feet could not catch up with CuiShan's, their tongues did not want to be left behind. They kept yelling, "Murderer! Murderer! Stop the murderer! Creep! Don't run away!". So they kept chasing him until the bank of the lake.

CuiShan laughed secretly, and thought: "How can you catch up with me?" Suddenly he heard Yuan Xin and Yuan Ye screamed at the same time, while Yuan Yin also groaned in pain, as if wounded.

Feeling surprised, CuiShan turned his head around to look back at them. He saw the three monks were covering their right eyes, as if injured by some hidden weapons. Soon he heard Yuan Ye cursing at him: "You creep named Zhang! If you dare, blind my left eye too!"

CuiShan was more startled. "Are their eyes blinded by someone throwing hidden weapons?", he asked himself. "Who has helped me?" suddenly he remembered something and quickly shouted: "Seventh Brother! Seventh Brother! Where are you?" He remembered that among his martial brothers, Muo ShengGu the youngest brother was the best at throwing hidden weapons such as darts, hand small arrows, nails, needles, coins, Hui-hong-sek stones, and the likes. That's why Zhang CuiShan thought that his youngest brother had come to help him by throwing some hidden weapons at the monk's eyes.

But after calling him several times, there was no response. Quickly CuiShan turned to the bushes of liu trees at the bank of the lake, but found nobody there.
On the other hand, after one of his eyes were injured, Yuan Ye became so enraged he jumped and was going to chase again. But Yuan Yin quickly stopped him, knowing that even before they were wounded, they were not CuiShan's match already; so after they were wounded like now, and noticing that the wound felt itchy as if containing poison, there was no hope they could win. He pulled Yuan Ye and said in a comforting tone: "Younger Brother Ye, to take revenge, why have to do it hurriedly now? Even if we don't take our revenge, do you think the Great Abbot and our two Martial Uncles will let him get away with this?"

Meanwhile, after seeing that they had stopped chasing him, CuiShan began to ponder over the incident with a great amazement. "I always feel confident with my own Lightness kung fu, but this person who has secretly helped me is even faster than me. He doesn't seem to mean harm to me, but who on earth is he?"

He did not dare to stay longer at the bank of the lake, so he began to walk towards the inn. But just as he walked for about 70-80 meters or so, suddenly he noticed that some tall grass near the lake were moving. Since there was no wind blowing at the time, he quickly knew that someone was hiding in it, so he approached it slowly and cautiously. When he was about to say something, suddenly from inside the grasses came out someone who instantly slashed a sabre down onto his head while shouting out loud: "If not you, let me die!"

CuiShan evaded the sabre while his right foot kicked the assailant's wrist so that his sabre quickly flew off his hand and fell into the lake. After looking more clearly, he saw that the person's head was all bald, and wearing a monk's robe, so he's another Shaolin monk.
"What are you doing here?" yelled CuiShan. But soon he saw that there were three people lying in the grass, unmoving, and it was not clear if they were still alive or already dead.

Knowing that the monk's kung fu was just mediocre, CuiShan did not worry anymore about him. Leaving him, he approached the three lying figures and bent down to check on them, only to find out that they were no other than Du DaJin and the two Escorts Zhu and Shi from the Dragon Gate Escort Agency. He exclaimed in shock. "Escort Leader Du!" he said loudly. "You...! You....!"

His words were cut off by Du DaJin leaping up, and like crazy grabbing him by the collar. "You bastard! I just took aside 300 taels of gold and you did such a cruelty!" he yelled while gritting his teeth in anger.
"What's going on?" asked CuiShan confused. He was just going to shake himself off his grab when suddenly he saw blood at the corners of Du DaJin's eyes and mouth. He was shocked. "Are you internally injured?" he asked.

Du DaJin turned his head to look at the monk and said hoarsely: "Younger Brother, look at him! This is Silver Hook Iron Brush Zhang CuiShan. He is the killer. Hurry, run away....! Run...! Don't fall into his trap...." Suddenly his hands pulled CuiShan forcefully and he was going to smash his own head into the Fifth Hero's head, with intention of dying together with both having their skulls broken. CuiShan quickly raised his hands to push him away. "Bam!" Du DaJin's body fell backward onto the ground, but CuiShan's own clothes was ripped off.

Zhang CuiShan was a brave man. But the strange happenings that night and Du DaJin's scary facial expression made his body hair stood up now. With his heart pounding fast, he bent down and tried to help him up, but Du DaJin was already dead with his eyes wide open angrily. After being severely injured, even CuiShan's push and the fell to the ground had been too much for him to stand and they had helped to take his life away.

"Monster!" yelled the monk! "You...! You have also killed Elder Brother Du!" Then he quickly turned his body around and ran away as fast as he could. But maybe because he was too scared, he tripped and fell down squarely onto the ground, crawled up, and ran away again as fast as he could.

Looking at that monk's behaviour, Zhang CuiShan shook his head, feeling very vexed and amused at the same time. He saw that Escort Zhu and Escort Shi had their feet in the water, and it was obvious that they had died quite some time ago. Looking at the three corpses, Zhang CuiShan felt very sad. He had no enmity with Du DaJin. He just felt vexed that Du DaJin had let himself be deceived by evil people and gave Yu DaiYan to them. But now, seeing how he died so pathetically, he felt great compassion and pity. For a while, he stood there lost in thought. Suddenly he remembered what the Escort Leader said. "I just took aside 300 taels of gold and you did such a cruelty!"
"It seemed that Du DaJin felt reluctant to donate all the 2000 taels of gold to help the flood victims, so secretly he kept 300 taels for himself. Hm, how would I know if he had kept 300 taels for himself? And even if I knew, I would just smiled in amusement and wouldn't bother about it." he thought.

He reached out for Du DaJin's knapsack, and yes he could feel that it was unusually heavy. He opened it, and soon some pieces of gold fell down to the ground beside Du DaJin's liveless face.

At the exact moment, suddenly an empty feeling struck Zhang CuiShan. He felt that Du DaJin worked so hard all his life, traveling around more than a thousand kilometers risking his life at the tip of his weapon, just to accumulate money for his old age. But now when he had obtained the big amount of money, and it was lying just beside his head, he could not enjoy the money anymore, being dead. Then he looked at himself now. Now he was a famous hero, defeating even the powerful monks of Shaolin Clan, but what would happen after he grew old? Would he meet a similar fate as Du DaJin? What's the difference between Du DaJin and himself? In the end, everything, fame and riches, will go when one died. Thinking about this, he took a deep sigh.

As he was lost in thought, suddenly he heard the sound of zither playing softly from the middle of the lake nearby. When he looked up, he found out that the young scholar he saw in front of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency was playing the zither in his boat. After playing a few more songs, the scholar started to sing.

    Receiving enlightenment,
the spirit of the pen is shaking
the five sacred mountains of China.
    Finished composing the written lyrics,
    the voice sings it,
reaching far to the abodes of the hermits.
If fame and righteousness must stand unperturbed,
The River of Han-sui must flow back to the North West.

(The River of Han Sui must flow back to the North West = The Chinese must restore its former power in the North West, driving away the Mongol occupation).

CuiShan was startled. The voice, which was loud but soft, was feminine like a woman's; while the content of its lyrics answered to his feeling accurately. In a moment, he quickly walked away to leave the place, because if the boat docked to the bank and the scholar saw the three corpses, he might call some patrolling soldiers to investigate and created a big a fuss. But before he could go away, suddenly the scholar tapped his zither a few times then stopped playing. "If Heng-tay (Brother, Friend) likes to enjoy the night sceneries of the lake, why not join me here in the boat?" he said out loud. Then he signaled to the boatman who then stood up and rowed to the shore.

"This person is here on the lake before I came, maybe I can get a few crucial information from him," thought CuiShan, who then stepped down to the edge of the lake. As soon as the boat came near, he jumped onto its bow.

With his high-level of Lightness kung fu, CuiShan could land on the boat without making it move even a bit. The Scholar stood up and brought his two hands together, smiling. Then he gestured to his guest to take a seat.

Under the lantern light, CuiShan saw that the Scholar's hand was whiter than snow, his face was slim and slender, his eyebrows exquisite, his nose is pretty and straight, with one dimple on his left cheek when he smiled. The Scholar, who from afar looked as if a good-looking young man, was actually a beautiful girl disgusing herself as a man.

Being Zhang SanFeng's disciple, CuiShan was trained to follow the strict and correct manner between men and women of that era. Although the Seven Heroes of WuDang Clan had long wandered in the martial world, never had any of them been made to lose their common sense over a beautiful woman.

Because of this, as soon as he knew that the Scholar was a girl, he was surprised and and his face soon turned bright red as he blushed. Quickly he stood up again and jumped back to the bank of the lake. Bringing his hands together and bending his body, he said respectfully: "I did not know that Miss is a woman who is disguising as a man. Please forgive my insolence."

The girl did not reply but she started to sing again.

Feeling of vexation only drives joy away,
Feeling of loneliness only invites sorrow in.
Flying around, looking into far places,
Holding your sword, jump onto the boat.

Hearing the song which meaning was to invite him to jump back onto the boat, CuiShan thought to himself: "Tonight I have met with too many strange happenings. That Miss may be able to help me out of the unjust accusations." Thinking this way, he moved to jump back onto the boat. But another thought crossed his mind. "Ah! I don't know who she is, and she is so beautiful," he thought. "If I meet her in the middle of the night, I will stain her good name."

While he was hesitating, suddenly he heard the sound of the oars hitting the water, and the boat had moved back to the middle of the lake again. Then the zither played again, accompanying her singing.

Tonight I forsake any more joy,
    Tomorrow night is still uncertain.
    Under the Liok-ho-tah,
The Yangliu trees sway, and the boat is waiting,
    Young brave Hero,
    Would you mind coming there?

The boat gradually became farther and farther, and the song could hardly be heard anymore. The boat's lantern light became as small as a grain of bean, glittering faintly and finally disappeared in the distance.

What Zhang CuiShan experienced that night were all quite shocking. First, the massacre, corpses and fierce fights - then, a beautiful girl, zither and enchanting songs. For a long time he stood there unmoving, as if he had lost his mind. Then, while taking a deep sigh, he walked back to the inn looking disspirited.

The next day, the great massacre of the whole Dragon Gate Escort Agency's household shook the city of Lin An. But nobody suspected Zhang CuiShan, whose appearance and manner was as gentle as a literary scholar. That day, from morning till afternoon he walked around the city, visiting city markets and some famous sightseeing spots like temples, in order to look for Yu LianZhou and Muo ShengGu. But they were nowhere to be found, not even their code signs they usually left along their way.

After the sun had moved to the west, he couldn't help remembering the song sung by the girl, whose beautiful and sweet face always hovered in his mind.

"Tonight I forsake any more joy,
    Tomorrow night is still uncertain.
    Under the Liok-ho-tah,
The Yangliu trees sway, and the boat is waiting,
    Young brave Hero,
    Would you mind coming there?"

He regretted that he had not asked her directly last night, since she was the only one who could maybe give him some clues concerning the bloody events. "If I behave politely, wouldn't it be okay if I meet her again?" he thought. "I wish Second Brother and Seventh Brother were here and so they could go with me. But yes, I must see that Miss. She is the only one to whom I can ask about the events yesterday." Therefore, after eating dinner, he walked towards the Liok-ho-tah Pagoda.

    Chapter 5

Liok-ho-tah Pagoda was located by the bank of QianTang River, and was far apart from the city of Lin An, so although Zhang CuiShan used his Lightness kung fu, the day had turned to evening when he arrived at the Pagoda. From far he could already saw that on the eastern side of the Pagoda there were three yangliu trees under which a small boat was being docked. The boats on the river normally used sails, and they were usually bigger than the boats on the lake of See-ouw. But the boat under the yangliu trees was no different than the boat last night, and there was a lantern hanging on its bow.

The young man's heart beat faster, and after calming himself, he approached the yangliu trees. At the bow of the boat, under the lantern, a girl wearing a light-green robe was seen sitting at the bow. She did not disguise herself as a man anymore.

When he left the inn, CuiShan was determined to ask her about the events last night; but now seeing her wearing a woman's clothes, again he hesitated.
Suddenly the girl sang again while looking up to the sky:

Hugging my knees at the bow of the boat,
My heart is waiting for the arrival of a guest.
Blown by the wind, swayed by the waves,
My mind is vexed, as if lost.

"Excuse me. I'm Zhang CuiShan, and I wish to ask something to Young Miss," said CuiShan in a loud voice.
"Please come on the boat," invited the girl.
With a beautiful leap, CuiShan jumped onto the boat.
"Yesterday, dark clouds covered the sky and the moon did not appear," said the girl. "Tonight the sky is clear, more pleasant to look at than yesterday." Her voice is beautiful and clear, but she spoke while her eyes still looking at the sky. She did not look at CuiShan even once.

"May I know Young Miss' Honorable name?" asked CuiShan while bending his body in respect.
Suddenly she turned her head and her two beautiful and clear eyes swept CuiShan's face. But she kept silent and did not reply to his question.

Seeing the beautiful face looking at him, suddenly CuiShan felt inferior, and he blushed profusely. Not daring to say anything anymore, he turned his body around and jumped back to the shore and ran away from the boat.

After running some distance away, he stopped. "CuiShan! CuiShan!" he groaned. "You have fought for many years in the martial world and you do not know the meaning of fear. So why now, as soon as you saw a girl, you ran away in fear?" He looked back at the boat again and saw that it was floating downstream slowly along the bank of the river. With his heart pounding fast, he then walked along the river, side by side with the boat; while the girl remained seated at the bow, with her eyes still looking at the sky.

After walking for a while, unconsciously CuiShan also looked up to the sky to see the moon the girl was watching. Suddenly from the east came a flock of dark clouds. The saying was true, which said that the wind and the cloud came unpredictably. Very quickly, the dark clouds moved and spread out. Not long after, the moon was completely covered by the dark clouds; and along with the arrival of the wind, the rain started to fall.

At that time, CuiShan was walking along the river in a flat grass field with nothing to protect him from the rain. But the young man, whose mind was feeling unrest, did not wish to look for any shelter either. Although it was just a light rain, gradually CuiShan's clothes got wet too. He looked at the girl from the corner of his eyes, and saw that she too, was still sitting there at the bow of the boat and was ignoring the wind and the rain. Suddenly he woke up from his dream. "Miss, please get inside! Aren't you worried you'll get soaked?"

"Ah!" the girl exclaimed shortly as if woken from a dream too, and stood up. "Eh, aren't you worried you'll get soaked yourself?"

After saying that, she entered the boat's cabin and then came out again with an umbrella in her hand, and threw it to the young man. CuiShan caught the umbrella and opened it. There was a beautiful painting painted on the umbrella - a mountain, a river, and several yangliu trees. On it there were some writings too which said "Xie Feng Xi Yu Bu Xu Gui" (meaning: When the wind and rain fall, there is no need to return home. Or: When the situation is still unsafe, there is no need to return to the homeland).

Umbrellas from HangZhou usually have paintings on it; but it was unusual to have such writings, which is usually the characteristics of ceramics from Kangsay. Full with admiration, CuiShan read the writings; although the strokes were lacking in strength , they were pretty to look at, indicating that the writer was a woman.
With his eyes looking at the writings, he kept walking and did not notice a ditch crossing his path. Suddenly he felt his right foot stepped on an empty space and ordinary persons would usually just fall into the ditch. But Zhang CuiShan was not an ordinary person. While his right foot was still half-way in the ditch, his left foot quickly kicked the edge of the ditch and borrowing the force, his body leapt forward so he landed safely at the other side of the ditch.

    "Great!" praised the girl.
CuiShan turned his head and saw the girl standing at the bow of the boat, and putting on a bamboo hat. With her clothes waving in the wind against the rain, she looked as if she was a Goddess from Heaven.

"Are the writings and paintings on the umbrella worthy enough for Mister Zhang to see?" asked the girl.
"The writings were written according to the calligraphy style belonging to Wi HuJing," he replied. "Although the characters are separate, their meanings connect. Although the strokes are short, their meanings are not. The characters themselves are beautiful enough."

Knowing that the young man recognized her writing style and hearing the praise given to her, the girl felt happy.
"Among those seven characters, the character 'put' (no) is the worst," she said.
CuiShan looked at the writings again and said: "This character is normal, only that it was written without giving enough attention to the meaning of the character itself; unlike the other 6 characters, which were written so beautifully that they will never bore the people looking at them."
"Right," said the girl. "I have long felt that the character lacks something, but I couldn't figure out what. Now that Mister explained, I understood now."

The boat kept moving down the river, while Zhang CuiShan kept following it while talking about the arts of writing. Without realizing it, they had passed several kilometers and the night had gone deeper. Suddenly the girl said: "It is correct when people say that talking with an intelligent person for one night is more beneficial than reading books for ten years. Please accept my gratitute for your explanations and let us take our parting here." After saying that, she gave a signal to the boatman with her hand, and soon the sail of the boat rose up slowly. After the sail was spread out, the boat went down very fast. His eyes lost in thought, and feeling sad and empty as if losing something, Zhang CuiShan stood there watching the boat sailed away into the distance. Suddenly, he could faintly hear the beautiful girl's voice saying: "My surname is Yin. Another day, if we meet again, I would love to learn from you again."

Hearing the words "My surname is Yin," the young man was startled. He remembered Du DaJin's explanation that the person who asked him to take Yu DaiYan to Mount WuDang was a good-looking scholar who said that his surname was Yin. Is the scholar named Yin no other than this young girl dressed as a scholar?

Thinking about this, without considering anymore about the limitation of the proper manner between man and woman, he quickly gathered his energy and chased after the boat using his Lightness kung fu. Although the boat sailed real fast, but with his superior Ligtness kung fu, it was not long before he could catch up with it. "Miss Yin!" he yelled. "Do you know Third Brother Yu, Yu DaiYan?"

The girl turned her head around without replying. Faintly CuiShan could hear her taking a deep sigh. But as the distance was rather far, he could not be sure that she was really sighing or not.
"Miss, there are a few things I'd like to ask you," he yelled again.
"What about?" the girl asked back.
"Were you the one asking The Dragon Gate Escort Agency to escort Third Brother Yu to Mount WuDang?" asked CuiShan. "If so, I'd like to repay your kindness,"
"Kindness or Hatred, Hatred or Kindness, how to know the difference?" she said.
"But do you know that after arriving at Mount WuDang, Third Brother Yu had been attacked and seriously wounded by some people?"
"Yes, I feel upset over that, and regret it very much." she replied.

As they were talking, the wind blew stronger and the boat sailed even faster still. But with his exceptional Lightness kung fu, Zhang CuiShan had no problem running along with it side by side.
On the other hand, since each of her word, though said normally, could still be heard clearly by Zhang CuiShan among the wind and rain, it meant that her Internal Strength was also very good.

The more they went downstream, the wider the QianTang River was, and the heavier the wind and rain too.
"Miss Yin, several tens of people in The Dragon Gate Escort Agency has been killed," he yelled. "Do you know who killed them?"

"I already told Du DaJin, that he must be careful in taking Third Hero Yu back to Mount WuDang," she replied. "If he failed...."
"You will kill the whole family of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency, including all their chickens and their dogs," the young man continued.

"Right," she said. "He couldn't protect Third Hero Yu to arrive safely at the destination, and all what happened after that is his own fault, not others'."
CuiShan's heart trembled. His body shivered as if being poured with iced water. With eyes opened wide in disbelief, he shouted: "If so, all the people in that building were....were...."
"...killed by me," continued the girl.
The young man's eyes were seeing stars and his ears trembled. Not even in his wildest dream had he ever thought that such a beautiful girl could be such a heartless killer. He could not utter any word anymore. After a while, after calming himself down, he managed to say again: "And who had killed those two Shaolin monks?"

"I did it," calmly she replied. "Actually I didn't mean to sow enmity with Shaolin Clan, but they had spoken to me insolently, so I couldn't forgive them."
"But...but why did they blame everything on me?" asked the young man again.
The girl smiled. "It was me who had deliberately arranged it."
CuiShan's blood boiled, he felt as if his chest was going to explode. "You had deliberately arranged it? So that they will take revenge on me?" he yelled furiously.
    "Correct," she replied, laughing.
"We were not even enemies, why would you do such a thing to me?"
The girl did not reply. Suddenly, waving her sleeve, she went into the boat's cabin.

Of course CuiShan did not want to let the matter go just like that and he wanted to ask more questions. At that time, the boat was a bit far from the shore, so it was impossible for him to jump on it. With intense anger, he hit a tree, and broke two thick branches. Throwing one of them into the river towards the boat, his foot kicked the ground and his body shot forward like an arrow while carrying the other branch. As soon as his feet landed on that floating branch, his left foot again kicked downward on the branch and his body shot a few meters forward again while his hand threw out the second branch. Like previously, his right foot landed and kicked the second floating branch, and like a bird, he flew and landed on the bow of the boat.
"Hey!" he thundered as soon as his feet landed. "How...how did you arrange everything?"

But the cabin was dark and quiet. He really wanted to break in, but remembering that it would be improper to forcefully entered a woman's room, he controlled himself as best as he could and just stood hesitating outside.

Suddenly the candle in the cabin was lit. "Please come in," invited the girl.
After fixing up his wet and untidy robe, CuiShan stepped inside the boat's cabin. Suddenly he was startled, because there in the cabin, sat a a young literary scholar wearing a green long robe with a square hat, while his hand was fanning himself with a fan, and his manner was that of a gentle male scholar.
It seemed that in a flash the girl had changed into a scholar outfit and wearing this scholar outfit, at a glance she looked a lot like Zhang CuiShan.

Previously CuiSan had asked how she had arranged to frame him so that those Shaolin monks put the blame on him. Without answering in words, now the girl had answered him. In a rather dark place, it would be hard for people to differentiate which was the real Zhang CuiShan and which was the fake one. No wonder if Hui Feng and Du DaJin accused him.

"Fifth Hero Zhang, please sit down," the girl invited him, with her fan pointing to a chair. Then she poured some tea into a cup and served it to him while saying: "I regret that in the middle of the night, there's no wine in the boat. Please regard this cold tea as wine, forgive me and I hope it won't decrease the enjoyment of Fifth Hero Zhang."
This friendly welcome had forced CuiShan to supress his anger. "Thank you," he was forced to say while bending his body.

Seeing that the young man's clothes were soaked, the girl said again: "There are still some clothes in the boat; if Fifth Hero Zhang doesn't mind, you can change your clothes in the back room."
"No need," he replied while shaking his head. Then he used his Internal Strength to warm up his whole body, and soon the water in his clothes vaporized.
"Ehm, I forget that WuDang Clan's Internal Strength is superior in the martial world." said the girl, smiling. "That Siauwmoay (I, little sister) has offered you to change your clothes is really an ignorant offer."

"May I know from what Clan does Miss belong to?" asked CuiShan."
Hearing this question, the girl turned her head and gazed outside the window: her eyebrows were drawn together and her face showed sadness.

Seeing her facial expression's change, CuiShan did not want to press any further. After a while, he asked again: "Miss, who was it that had injured Third Brother Yu? Would you please tell me?"
"Not only Du DaJin, but I was fooled as well," she replied. "I should have remembered, that The 7 Heroes of WuDang are elegant and handsome heroes, and could not be looking so crude."
Hearing the girl's diverting answer about "elegant and handsome", CuiShan understood that the girl was praising his look, so his heart jumped and pounded while his face turned red. But at that time he still did not understand what she meant by saying so.

A moment later, Miss Yin sighed while rolling up the sleeve of her left arm, exposing an arm as white as jade. Hurriedly Zhang CuiShan looked down, he did not dare to look at that white unblemished arm.
"Do you recognize these hidden weapons?" asked the girl.
Hearing the words "hidden weapons", CuiShan raised his head and saw 3 small metal nail darts sticking on her left snow-white arm, and around the darts the skin was as black as black ink.

The length of the nail darts were about 3 cm and about 2 cm went into the flesh; while their tails sticking out showing a plum flower shape. CuiShan was surprised and stood up while shouting: "Ah! Those are the Bwee-hoa-piauw (Plum Flower Dart) from Shaolin Clan. Why...why are they black?"
"Right," said the girl. "These are Plum Flower Darts from Shaolin Clan. These darts contain poison."
"Shaolin Clan is a famous and righteous Clan, so it's impossible that they would use poisonous weapons," said CuiShan. "But these darts, only Shaolin disciples can use them."

"I also feel very puzzled," said Miss Yin. "And as what your Teacher said, your Elder Bother's broken bones were also caused by Golden Steel Finger, the special kung fu style from Shaolin Clan"

CuiShan was taken by surprise. "When Teacher was explaining about it, there were only us 7 martial brothers present, there was nobody else around. How could she know about this?" he wondered. "Miss, have you ever met with Second Brother Yu and Seventh Brother Muo?" he asked hurriedly.
    The girl shook her head.
"I just met them once at Mount WuDang; but after that, I never met them anymore." she replied.

CuiShan was more amazed. "You have ever visited Mount WuDang?" he asked. "Why didn't I know it? ...Miss, how long have been you been hit by those darts? You must quickly look for its antidote." When he said that, his face showed worry and care.

"Already over 20 days," the girl answered gratefully. "I have used some medicines to halt it from spreading, so temporarily I can still stand it. But I don't dare to pull them out, in case the poison will spread out, along with the flow of the blood."

CuiShan knew that to halt the spread of poison, not only someone had to take a good medication, but one also had to possess a high-level Internal Strength. Judging from her face, the girl must only be about 18 year-old, so the fact that she already possessed such a high-level of kung fu was something to be admired. Unconsciously he stuttered: "But Miss...after more than 20 days with the darts there....I am worried....that even after they're healed, your arm might....your arm might...leave some blemish that can't go away." In fact he had wanted to say that if she kept the poison too long in her arm, even if she recovered, her arm might become useless.

"I have tried my best," the girl said weakly, her tears brimming in her eyes. "Last night I have checked the monks' bodies for the antidote, but I couldn't find any...Maybe this arm will become useless." After saying this, slowly she covered up her arm again.

Zhang CuiShan's valiant spirit was awakened. "Miss Yin," he said, sounding determined. "Do you trust me? Although my Internal Strength is not good, I have confidence that I can still help you getting rid of the poison."
Miss Yin laughed and the dimple on her cheek made her even more beautiful. She looked happy and her face became radiant. "Fifth Hero Zhang," she said. "I know that in your heart you still have a lot of questions and doubts. Let me explain first to you as clearly as possible, so that after you helped me, you won't regret it afterwards."
"To cure the sick and to help people is our duty in the martial world, why should I regret it?" he said earnestly.

"The poison has been in my body for more than twenty days, there's no need to hurry now, I can wait," said the girl with a smile. "Please listen to me now. That day, after passing Third Hero Yu to the Dragon Gate Escort Agency, I followed them secretly from behind. As I suspected, along the way there were quite a few people trying to get to Third Brother Yu, but I had driven them away, without Du DaJin's knowing it."

Zhang CuiShan brought his two hands together. "The whole WuDang's disciples will never forget Miss Yin's great kindness." he said while bending his body.
"Don't hurry to thank me just yet. Perhaps in a moment you will hate me for seven generations."
CuiShan was startled, he did not understand what the girl meant.

"Along the way I changed my disguise several times," she continued her story. "One day I disguised myself as a farmer, the other day as a merchant, and always tailing them. Unexpectedly, after arriving at the foot of Mount WuDang, that sad incident occured."
"Did Miss see the six evil people?" asked CuiShan gritting his teeth. "Du DaJin were as dumb as a dead pig. He could see but he couldn't give any single explanation about the origins of those six evil people."
"Not only that I have seen them, I have even fought them," she replied. "But I'm also dumb. I also don't know anything about their origins."

After sipping her her tea, she continued: "When those six people came down from the mountain and talked with Du DaJin, I watched from afar. I could hear Escort Leader repeatedly addressed them as 'The Six Heroes of WuDang', and they did not deny it. After they received the carriage with Third Hero Yu from the Agency, I thought the task was done and I stopped my horse by the road and let Du DaJin's group passed. But after a while, I realized something did not make sense. I heard that The Seven Heroes of WuDang loved each other as if they were real siblings. Normally, all of them would hurriedly take a look at the condition of Third Hero Yu, who was heavily wounded and was lying down inside the carriage. But the fact was, only one of them came up to take a brief look inside the carriage, while the others did not bother to look at all. Not only that, their faces even looked very happy and they followed behind that carriage while shouting noisily. This does not make sense at all, and I became suspicious."

"Yes, Miss is very thoughtful, your suspicion was quite founded," CuiShan nodded his head several times.

"The more I thought about it, the more uneasy I became," the girl continued. "Hurriedly I whipped my horse and chased after them, and asked them their names. They had good eyes; they quickly knew that I was a woman disguised as a man. I called them names, saying they were rotten liars who had abused the names of The Seven Heroes of WuDang in order to get Third Hero Yu with deception. The I began to attack them and fought with a thin young man of about twenty, and a Taoist priest stood at the side watching over him, while the other four kept going with the carriage."

After pausing for a while, she said again: "I never thought that this skinny man's kung fu was so good, and even after 30 moves, I could not defeat him. Suddenly, the Taoist priest standing at the side moved his left hand and three darts flew into my arms. As soon as the darts hit my arm, I felt painful and itchy. I became very angry, and my anger was fueled by that skinny man saying very rude things, saying that he would capture me. I quickly threw three needles and finally managed to escape." Speaking until here, the girl blushed. Probably the skinny man, seeing that the girl was traveling alone, had wanted to do something indecent to her.

"Throwing the Plum Flower Darts with left hand is more difficult than throwing it with right hand," said CuiShan. "Buy why did a Shaolin monk wear a Toaist priest's outfit? Was he in disguise?"
Miss Yin smiled. "If a Taoist priest wants to disguise himself as a monk, he has to shave his head; but if a monk wants to disguise himself as a Taoist priest, it's easy, he just needs to wear a Taoist hat."
The young man nodded, smiling with amusement.

"I realized, that at that time, though the situation looked bad for Third Hero Yu, I wouldn't be able to do much," Miss Yin said again. "I couldn't even defeat the skinny man, so what with the Taoist priest too, who seems to have better kung fu than the skinny man. And there were six of them too, so I was confused but I had to let them go."
"CuiShan opened his mouth as if going to say something, but refrained it and didn't say anything.

"I know what you were going to say. You wanted to say: 'Why didn't you go up to WuDang and reported it to us?' Right? It's impossible for me to go up by myself to WuDang. If I could, why hadn't I taken Third Brother Yu back to WuDang by myself, and had had to ask Du DaJin? And while I was walking by myself feeling confused, suddenly I saw you talking with Du DaJin. Later, following Du DaJin's group, I went up to WuDang secretly. In the confusion and sadness, no one paid attention to me. You from WuDang thought I was the Agency's attendant, while the group of The Dragon Gate Escort Agency thought I was a WuDang's attendant."

Suddenly the young man remembered something. "Aha!" he exclaimed. "That day you disguised yourself as a carriage's driver, right? You pulled down your bamboo hat it almost covered all your face."
"Wow, Fifth Hero Zhang's eyes were very observant," replied the girl, laughing. "Hadn't you been so furious and sad, perhaps your eyes would have been able to recognize my disguise. But I couldn't fool First Hero Song's eyes."
"First Brother recognize your disguise?" asked CuiShan feeling amazed. "But he didn't say anything to us at all."
"First Hero Song is a very polite and noble man," praised the girl. "First Hero looked like a quiet and careful person, he wouldn't say anything in a rash. To me, he didn't say anything either. Only when he gave rooms for the Agency group to sleep, he deliberately showed me a separate room."
"Yes, First Brother is all what you described," said CuiShan, full of respect towards his First Brother.

"Later, together with Du DaJin's group, I left the mountain," said the girl. "I saw how you had forced them to spit the money out again, to help the victims of the big flood. Fifth Brother Zhang, you are extremely generous, but you were generous with other people's money. That money is mine."
CuiShan laughed, feeling amused. "Let me represent those suffering flood victims to thank you now," he said.

"Hm! If the money was already in the hands of greedy people, how would they be willing to donate all of it?" said Miss Yin again. "Only because they were scared of your big name, they didn't dare to disobey you, although they kept 300 taels for themselves. After I was back here again at Lin An, I quickly sought help for these wounds. Someone told me that these are Plum Flower Darts, Shaolin Clan's special hidden weapons; and except Shaolin's own antidotes, it would be hard to cure it. In Lin An, except the Dragon Gate Escort Agency, no one else belongs to Shaolin Clan. So I went there that night to force them to give me the antidote. But surprisingly, not only they refused to give the antidote, they had also prepared their friends to ambush me, and as soon as I arrived there, together they attacked me fiercely."

"Hm," said CuiShan. "But didn't you say that you had deliberately arranged it so that they would think it was me?"
Miss Yin blushed shyly and lowered her head, then she said softly: "I saw you bought a set of new clothes and wore it, and I thought....I thought....that it looked so good, so I imitated you by buying a set too."

"So that explains it," said CuiShan. "But killing those several tens of people is too cruel. Actually you don't have any personal enmity with the people of the Dragon Gate Escort Agency."
Hearing this admonition, the girl's facial expression quickly changed to one of annoyance. She laughed coldly and said: "Are you trying to lecture me? Hmph! I have lived for 19 years, and no one has ever lectured me yet. Fifth Hero Zhang has a righteous and noble heart, so I ask you to leave here now. There is no need for someone as kind and as noble as you to associate with a cruel and lowly person like me."

Being scolded like this, the young man's face turned red. He quickly stood up and was going to leave, when suddenly he remembered that he had promised to help cure her wounds. "Please lift up your sleeve," he said.
Miss Yin's eyebrows stood up and her eyes glared at him. "You like to lecture on me, I don't need your help!" she said.
"Your arm has been poisoned for too long, and if not quickly cured, I'm afraid....I'm afraid your life will be in danger."
"It's better if I drop dead," said the girl angrily. "If I die, you're the killer."
Hearing this unreasonable logic, CuiShan was amazed. "E-eh!" he exclaimed. "You're injured by that Shaolin's disciple, what does it have anything to do with me?"

"What does it have anything to do with you? Try to think! If I had not taken more than a thousand-kilometer journey to guard your Third Brother Yu to Mount WuDang, would I have met with those six evil people? After those six thugs took your Third Brother Yu; if I had not tried to save him, would my arm have been wounded? And if you had come sooner to help me fight them, would I have been injured?" like a rushing flood, she said these quickly without stopping.

What she said, except the last sentence, made sense, so CuiShan bent his body and brought his two hands together. "You're right. So let me try to help you now, Miss, to repay for your great kindness." he said.
The girl looked away. "So you admit that you were wrong?" she asked.
"Eh? Where was I wrong?" asked CuiShan.
"You said previously that I was cruel, and that statement is wrong." said the girl feeling very vexed. "Those Shaolin monks, Du DaJin and his friends deserved to be killed."

CuiShan shook his head. "Although your arm is poisoned, you can still be saved," he said. "Third Brother is severely injured, but he is alive. Even if he could not recover in the end, at most we will just look for the culprit who has injured him. Killing so many innocent people is really something anyone shouldn't have done."

The girl glared at him and her face looked angry. "So you insist on blaming me? That I have killed the wrong people?" she yelled at him with raised eyebrows. "Wasn't it a disciple of Shaolin that had injured me with these Plum Flower Darts? Wasn't it a disciple of Shaolin that had opened the business of The Dragon Gate Escort Agency?"

"Shaolin's disciples are spread out all over the world, they are in the thousands, maybe even in the tens of thousands," said CuiShan patiently. "You were just injured by 3 darts. For that, will you kill all of Shaolin's disciples in the world?"

Losing in this argument, the girl became even more furious. Suddenly she raised her right hand and hit her left arm, right on the three darts. Of course the three darts sank deeper into her flesh and the wounds got worse.

CuiShan was shocked. He never thought that the girl had such a weird character. Just because losing a small argument, she did not mind inflicting such dangerous injury to herself. If she had no respect for her own body and her own life, no wonder if she also had no respcet for other people's lives and could kill so indiscriminately. He was going to stop her, but it was too late.

"Why...why did you do that?" he asked with eyes open wide in shock. His heart pounding quickly, he saw how her sleeve began to be soaked by black blood. He knew that the wounds were too serious now and that the girl's Internal Strength was not enough to halt the flow of the poison along with the blood. If she was not helped urgently, her life might be in danger. Therefore, without saying any word, his left hand grabbed her left arm while his right hand was going to tear her sleeve off.

Suddenly CuiShan heard someone yelling behind him: "Beast! Don't you dare!" At the same time, a sabre was going to slash his back. He knew that it was the boatman attacking him, but there was no time to explain. In this critical moment, without even looking back, he kicked backward, and the man was thrown back out of the boat's cabin.

"You don't need to help me, I prefer to die, so let me die," said the girl while raising her hand. "Slap!" suddenly she slapped CuiShan's cheek.
The slap came real fast, the movement also unusual, so CuiShan couldn't evade it. Startled and feeling pain on his cheek, CuiShan let go of her arm.

"Get lost! I don't want to see your face ever again!" said Miss Yin.
CuiShan felt both embarrassed and angry because of the slap. "Fine," he said. "Hmph! I have never seen a girl as insolent as you." After saying his last piece, he walked out.
The girl laughed coldly and said: "You have never seen one before? You saw one today."

CuiShan took a plank of wood to be used as a jumping stone to the bank of the river. But just as he was about to throw it into the water, his heart felt pity towards the girl; he knew that his going away would mean the death of that stubborn girl. Because of this, while supressing his anger, he walked back into the cabin. "Although you slapped me, I won't take it into account," he said. "Hurry, roll up your sleeve. Do you want to live or not?"
"I want to live or to die, what business is it of yours?," replied Miss Yin angrily.

"Traveling more than a thousand kilometers, you had protected Third Brother," said CuiShan. "Such a great kindness must not be left unrepaid."
Hearing this, the girl laughed coldly: "Great! Now I know, that your going to help me is solely for paying a debt!" she said. "If I had not guarded your Third Brother, even if I were more heavily wounded and were going to take my last breath, you wouldn't bother to save me."

CuiShan's mouth gaped open when he heard this. He froze for a second but then replied stutteringly: "Ah...! That's not necessarily true..." Suddenly he saw the girl shivered, a sign that the poison was spreading up. "You're crazy!" he said, sounding worried. "Hurry! Roll up your sleeve! Don't play around with your own life."
"You did not admit that you are wrong! So whatever will happen, I don't want to be helped by you," she said. Her white face was very pale now, and her body was trembling, so CuiShan felt much pity now. He sighed and said: "All right, we can say that I am the one who's wrong and you were not wrong to kill people."

"No deal!" said the girl. "If you're wrong, you're wrong. Why did you say 'we can say that'? And why did you admit you were wrong after taking a sigh first? Hmph! Your admission did not come out from your deepest heart."

Because he felt it was more important to save her life first, CuiShan did not want to waste time debating with her anymore. He said in a loud voice: "The Emperor in Heaven above, the God at the bottom of the River below, today I sincerely admit to Miss Yin...Yin..." He could not continue his words because he didn't know her complete name.

    "Yin SuSu," continued the girl.

"Ehm...! ...to Miss Yin SuSu, that in everything, I was the one in the wrong, or in short, I admit that I was wrong."
Yin SuSu felt happy and laughed. But almost at the same time, her knees gave out and she fell back sitting onto her chair. Hurriedly CuiShan took out Pek-ho Hu-sim-tan, a pill to protect the heart from the flow of poison and gave it to Yin SuSu. Then he rolled up her sleeve and found out that half her arm had changed color to purple black and the poison seemed to be moving fast. While holding the girl's upper arm with his left hand, he asked: "How do you feel?"

"My chest feels suffocated," she replied. "Why didn't you admit that you're wrong sooner? If I die, it's your all fault."
In this urgent circumstance, CuiShan had no other choice than to comfort her. "Everything's fine, don't worry," he said tenderly. "Relax your muscles, and don't use even the slightest energy. Think as if you're sleeping soundly."
"Right. Think as if I'm dead," she said, glaring at him.
CuiShan felt vexed and amused at the same time. "Hmph! Though heavily injured, she still doesn't want to lose even a bit. Whoever will be her husband, is really a pitiful chap," he thought. Thinking about this, suddenly his heart beat faster, and his face felt hot. Worried that the girl could guess what he was thinking, he glanced at her. He saw that Yin SuSu's cheeks were red as she blushed shyly. It seemed that she was also thinking about something. As soon as they eyes met, they both looked away.

"Fifth Brother Zhang," suddenly SuSu said softly. "I spoke without any manner, I hope you are not angry with me."
Hearing the girl changed from calling him "Fifth Hero Zhang" to the more intimate "Fifth Brother Zhang", instantly CuiShan's heart pounded more loudly. He tried to calm himself by taking a deep breath and concentrating his energy; and before long, warm air rose up from his stomach to his hands and then transfered to the girl's arm.

Sorry if the chaptering of HSDS in this Forum is messed up.
To see the new and correct chaptering (also divided in smaller Parts each chapter), you can check on my home page.

I am using the home page as my working platform, so if you are impatient to read the newest update, you can follow the story there.
Then after I finish about 1-2 parts over there, I usually take one whole part and post it here at one go.
As a rule, I usually write on that site first, before copy and paste with the Hokkienese names at another site.

In case this Forum is down, you can also check on my home page. There is no need to register, although if you register you can also post comments, edit the Hokkienese names, create your own Blogs (for your own articles related to HSDS) and create polls on HSDS.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy reading.

Could anyone tell me the situation of translating Jin Yong's novels related to copyright? I just received a hint that I am doing illegal work.

I checked at the other HSDS site here:
    http://www.angeltowns.com/members/ms...cgdl/intro.htm
and the translator deleted all his works because he (or she) cannot contact Jin Yong for permission.

And this is what I saw from:
    http://www.earnshaw.com/b&s/b&s.cfm
"At Mr Cha's request, and in light of the publication later this year of the Book & Sword translation by Oxford University Press, we have removed all but the first chapter from this website. Please contact me via email if you have any questions."

Please bookmark my Homepage because I will take all the links from this Forum.
Also please register to read the translation, I am sorry about that. I think this is a better way than if I will be forced to stop translating if I ever get a scolding from the copyright people.

don't be a scaredy cat for no reason. There are translation here since the ages and I never see one that being remove because of copyright infringement.

you only have a problem when you were translating something that already exist out there. In this case the english version of HSDS which AFAIK is still not exist... yet!

For example Xiao Shiyi Lang translation already being remove from this site because the english translation already being completed and exist on the book market

The same also with the Book and Sword as the english translation will be out in the coming months from Oxford Press.

if jin-yong estate doesn't like their property being translated anywhere they should have the initiative to hire someone to do the translation into english and sell them and I think many people will be very happy to buy them (and that include me)

I just registered now to tell you a little about laws.

Translation is illegal if the goal is making money, which is not the case here.

The fan translation is illegal only if someone have the copyright in the country of the readers.
Now that's a problem with internet because it's international. If you translate into english and they have the copyright in USA but not in UK it's ok with this logic.
So in this case, it's usualy (but with internationnal laws, it change all the time) the nationality of the website you post that matter.
And normally the compagny which own the copyright ask the translators to stop their translations. Some of them try to intimidate fan translators even if nobody have the rights in the country (the japanese kodansha for exemple). If they don't warn you, you can wait until the book is release in shops but you must stop showing your translation at this moment.
But nobody have the right to prevent you to translate for your own benefit, even if a compagny have a copyright in your country. And nobody can prevent you to show it to a few friends of yours.
So what you have done with the login is the right thing to do if someone have the copyright in the country which is, if I understand well, not the case yet.

sorry for the long boring speech with aproximative english

*edit* For the translator who stop their work, I think they did it only because of gentleness and respect, not because of the law *edit end*
I hope it will help you

That description "scaredy cat" fits me well because Kirara is the name of a cat
What I mean by "translation" here is a complete translation from beginning to the end, because that is what I have in mind when I started translating HSDS First Edition. Please correct me if I am wrong, but except for a short story by Jin Yong, none of the translation here is a completed translation of one whole novel yet. So I am worried what would happen if I finish the whole HSDS translation by hopefully, the end of this year (if possible).

They might let me get away with it as long as the translation is not out there yet, but still, since I know I am translating what is not mine, I can't help being a scardy cat.

Yes too bad I can't read Chinese and nor I am a professional translator from Chinese into English. Otherwise, I would be honored to do it for Mr.Cha for free.

Thanks for your response and opinions.

If I am not mistaken, this website is American, so all the translations here are under US laws? I wonder if they will scold, will they scold the translator, or the website he or she posts? Whose property and responsibility is the translation? the translator's, or the website's?
    Sorry for the many questions

Yes it did, and thanks. You have not registered in vain.

    OUCH!
Recently I just happened to translate the part where Yin SuSu and Zhang CuiShan were talking about Zhuang Zi's Autumn Flood. Please forgive my cheekiness and insolence to take this from Zhuang Zi (Chuang Tzu):

Meujeudom: "For the translator who stop their work, I think they did it only because of gentleness and respect, not because of the law."
Kirara: "You not being a translator who stop your work, how can you know the feeling of the translators who stop their work?"
Meujeudom: "And you not being I, how can you know that I do not know?"
Kirara: "If I, not being you, cannot know what you know, it follows that you, not being a translator who stop your work, cannot know the feeling of the translators who stop their work."
Meujeudom: "Let us go back to your original question. You asked me how I knew the feeling of the translators who stop their work. Your very question shows that you knew that I knew. I knew it (from my own feelings) on this forum."

*edit* For the translators who stop your work, for whatever reason you have, thank you for your hard work. *edit end*

After a while, some white steam came out from the top of his head, while his face was sweating; a sign that the young man was using his entire Internal Strength. Yin SuSu felt so grateful; she knew that this phase of the treatment was very critical and that CuiShan could not be disturbed. Therefore, she quickly closed her eyes and did not dare to say anything anymore.

Suddenly, "pluck!", a sound as if a bottle being opened was heard. A Plum Flower Dart shot out from her arm and hit the cabin's wall, followed by the flowing out of some black-colored blood from her wound. The black blood was gradually replaced by red blood, and then the second Plum Flower Dart shot out too, after being pushed by CuiShan's Internal Strength.

While cuiShan was gathering his strength to push out the third dart, suddenly from somewhere on the river someone yelled "Is Miss Yin there? Branch Leader from Cu-jiok Branch requests to see you."

CuiShan felt puzzled, but he was using all his Internal Strength, so he ignored it. The man over there yelled once again, to which the boatman replied: "There's a lecher here trying to harm Miss Yin! Branch Leader Chang, come here quick!"
Immediately that man on the other boat yelled: "Lecherous beast, if you dare to touch even the tip of Miss Yin's single hair, I'll carve bits of your flesh out and grind your bones!"
This man's voice was as loud as a big bell, and he sounded very strong; he kept yelling loudly as his boat was approaching.

Suddenly Yin SuSu opened her eyes and smiled, her facial expression was apologetic, as if she was saying sorry for the misunderstanding. Meanwhile, the third dart refused to come out even after CuiShan tried three times. It seemed that it had sunk deeper than the other two because SuSu had previously hit exactly on it.

Meanwhile the sound of the other boat nearing was getting louder as it approached very fast, followed by Miss Yin's boat shaking slightly. A man had landed on its deck. Without turning his head to look back, CuiShan kept generating his Internal Strength and ignored him.

With big strides, the man entered the cabin. Seeing both Thio CuiShan's hands were gripping Yin SuSu's arm tightly, he became furious. Of course he didn't know that the young man was trying to cure the girl's wounds, so in his fury, he quickly whacked Thio CuiShan's back while yelling: "Beast! Stll not letting her go?"

CuiShan could not use his hand to ward it off, so he just directed his energy to his back and let himself be hit. "Bang!" This person's blow was very powerful, hitting him squarely on the back. But CuiShan had learned the basic essence of WuDang's Internal Strength technique; although his body didn't move a bit, he could borrow the force from the person's powerful blow and with "Borrow Strength, Return Strength", he directed it to his own hands. "Pluck!" The third Plum Flower Dart flew out and sunk into the cabin's wall.

After the first blow, that person was going to follow up with his second blow; but seeing what happened, he stopped his hand half-way in the air. "Aiya, Miss Yin! Are you....are you...injured?"
    The girl did not reply.
Soon he saw the girl's arm bleeding black blood, and as an experienced martial arts expert, he knew that he had made a mistake. He felt remorse and thought that Zhang CuiShan must be heavily injured by his powerful blow. Hurriedly his hand slipped into his pocket to take out some medication for the young man.

CuiShan shook his head, and after he saw that the blood coming out had turned from black to red, slowly he released the girl's arm. Then he turned his head to look back, laughed, and said: "Wow, what a powerful blow!"
Of course the person was shocked, because with similar blow, quite a lot of powerful kung fu masters had died in his hand; so why was the young man able to withstand it? He was even more amazed seeing that the man looked as if he did not feel anything at all. He looked at Zhang CuiShan's face with his mouth gaping, and said brokenly: "You...you...." Then his hand reached out and he used his three fingers to check CuiShan's pulse on his wrist.

"Hahaha, let me tease him," CuiShan laughed secretly in his heart. Deliberately he used his Internal Strength to stop his heart from beating. This skill was possible for someone whose Internal Strength had reached a very high level, especially in China and India. Not only that one could stop the pulse, but could also temporarily stop the heart from beating.

Naturally, the man was startled when he found out that there was no pulse at all on CuiShan's wrist. In his shock, he quickly put his hand on CuiShan's chest to check his heartbeat, only to be more shocked to find CuiShan's heart was not beating!

"Miss Yin, is he your friend? You have not introduced him to me," said CuiShan, laughing. While saying that, he took the handkerchief Yin SuSu handed him to bandage her wounds. "Your life is not in danger anymore. After a few days with some ordinary medication, you should fully recover."

Seeing how CuiShan could speak normally without his heart beating a single beat, the man was so amazed that he forgot to take his hand off CuiShan's chest.

After thanking CuiShan, SuSu turned to the man and scolded him. "Branch Leader Chang, don't be rude! Hurry, pay your respect to Fifth Hero Zhang from WuDang Clan," she said with a displeased expression.
Hurriedly the man took his hand off CuiShan's chest and taking a step backward, he bowed to CuiShan and said admiringly: "Ah! So Mister is Fifth Hero Zhang from The Seven Heroes of WuDang! No wonder if you have such an amazing Internal Strength. My name is Chang JinPeng. Please forgive me for my insolence."

CuiShan bowed back and looked at the man, who was about 50 years-old. The distance between his mouth and his forehead was long, so his face resembled a horse's face. His hands were large like two fans, and the muscles on his face and arms were bulging out, indicating that he was specializing in Gwa-kee or External Strength. He knew that if this man's Internal Strength was not good enough, his previous strong blow might bounce back and killed himself.

After bowing to the young man, Chang JinPeng bowed very respectfully to Yin SuSu, who just slightly nodded and did not care much. CuiShan felt puzzled. From Chang JinPeng's blow, he knew that he was no ordinary kung fu expert. But why did Yin SuSu dare to behave so rudely towards him and why did he accept this rude treatment and behaved so respectfully towards her instead?
He heard Chang JinPeng said: "Branch Leader Bai from Hian-bu Branch had invited the Sea Sand Clan, the Giant Whale Association, the Divine Fist Society from Hokkien, and other groups to attend a meeting tomorrow morning on WanPan Island at the mouth of QianTang River to show off the sabre and build more dignity. If Miss Yin's not feeling well, let me escort Miss Yin back to Lin An first. In my opinion, Branch Leader Bai alone should be more than enough to manage the matters at WangPan Island."

Suddenly Yin SuSu scoffed. "Sea Sand Clan, Giant Whale Association, Divine Fist Society...hmph...is the Head of the Divine Fist Society, Guo SanQuan, coming too?" she asked.
"Yes, I heard that he will be coming with his 12 most able pupils," he replied.
The girl laughed coldly. "Although Guo SanQuan's name is famous, he's no match for Branch Leader Bai." "Who else will be coming?"
After being quiet for a while, Chang JinPeng replied: "According to reports, two sword experts from Kun Lun Clan are going to attend the meeting, to see....Tu....Tu...." He looked at CuiShan from the corners of his eyes and did not continue with his words.
"They said they wanted to see Tu Long Dao (The Dragon Sabre)?" asked SuSu. "Hmph, after seeing it, they will want it for themselves."

Hearing the word "Tu Long Dao", CuiShan was startled, but before he could say anything, the girl continued: "Hmm...These few years, in the martial world, the old waves of QianTang River was replaced by younger waves from behind. We should not take Kung Lun Clan's experts for granted. The wounds in my arm are no big deal. Let's go there quickly now; Branch Leader Bai might need our help."
She turned her head to CuiShan and said: "Fifth Hero Zhang, let us part here. I will go on Branch Leader Chang's boat and you can use my boat to return to the city of Lin An. It's better if WuDang Clan doesn't get involved with our matters."

"Third Brother's injury is perhaps related to The Dragon Sabre," said CuiShan. "Can Miss give more explanation about what has happened?"
"The matter seems to be very complicated, I don't know about it clearly myself," she replied. "You had better ask your Third Brother himself."
CuiShan understood that So So did not want to tell him, so he did not press any further. He thought: "The person who injured Third Brother wanted The Dragon Sabre very much. Branch Leader Chang said that they were going to show the sabre off on WangPan Island to build more dignity , so it seems thats the sabre is in their hands. And if those 6 evil people heard about this, they would surely come to attend the meeting too."
Thinking about this, he quickly asked: "In Miss Yin's opinion, is it likely that the Taoist priest who threw the Plum Flower Darts will go to WangPan Island too?"

The girl laughed, she understood CuiShan wanted to go to WangPan Island too. She did not reply; instead, she said: "If you want to see the fights, good, let's go together then!" She turned to Chang JinPeng and said again: "Branch Leader Chang, please lead the way with your boat."

"Yes, Miss Yin!" said Chang JinPeng, who retreated out of the cabin while bending his body real low as if a servant to his Master. On the other hand, So So just slightly nodded. But CuiShan respected him because of his high kung fu skill, so he stood up and saw him off until the bow of the boat.

"Come here!" suddenly SuSu waved to the boatman at the back of the boat.
The boatman realized that he had made a mistake and that his calling Branch Leader Chang had called disaster to himself. Instantly his face turned pale and his body trembled in fear. He begged: "I....I....did not know....Please....please.....forgive me, Miss Yin...."
Yin SuSu did not reply, so the boatman became more frightened. He turned his head to look at CuiShan with eyes asking for help, as if begging for his compassion and to ask forgiveness for his sake.

Zhang CuiShan did not understand why he had to be so frightened. That he had yelled to ask for help was because he was worried CuiShan would harm Yin SuSu, so he meant well, and it showed his loyalty to Miss Yin. So why was he so frightened?

Meanwhile, SuSu said stiffly: "You have eyes that cannot see, and ears that cannot hear. So what's the use of your eyes and your ears?"
The boatman's face suddenly looked very happy, since he knew that with those words, the girl had spared his life. Quickly he came down to his knees and said: "Thank you very much for Miss Yin's kindness!" After saying this, suddenly he took a blade from the knots on his leg, and sliced down the two sides of his his head. Of course his ears parted with his head and fell off to the floor! After that, he turned the blade over and stabbed his own eyes!

Of course CuiShan was shocked. Fast as lightning his hand reached out and with two fingers he clapped the boatman's blade and said: "Miss Yin, I'm sorry for asking forgiveness for him."
SuSu looked at the young man, then she said in a low voice: "All right." She turned her head to the boatman and added: "Quick, say thank you to Fifth Hero Zhang."

Because his eyes were saved, the boatman felt very happy. He quickly kneeled in front of Zhang CuiShan, and bowed many times to him, and then did the same thing again to Yin SuSu. After that, he went back to the back of the boat and rowed faster.

Cui Shan stood with his back to SuSu, and watched the vast water without saying anything. In his heart, he was wondering why a girl with such a beautiful face had such a cruel hand. "A girl as pretty as a flower like her, why is her behaviour so cruel?" he thought while secretly stole a look at her. "Her subordinates are so scared of her, indicating that she usually acts cruelly to them. I have long wandered in the martial world, and I have seen a lot of cruel people; but I have never seen a person as cruel and as heartless as her."

Knowing the young man was lost in thought and did not speak at all, SuSu glanced at him and saw that a part of his clothes were torn at the back, as a result of Chang JinPeng's blow. She said: "Please take off your robe, I will mend the tear for you."
    "No need," replied CuiShan.
    "You're worried I can't do it well?"
"Ah, I won't dare," replied CuiShan shortly, and then he kept silent again, with his eyes looking far away to the sea. He remembered how just in one single night the girl had killed so many innocent people from The Dragon Gate Escort Agency, and how pitiful their deaths were. He thought that he should have killed a killer as vicious as her; but instead, not only that he had sailed together with her in one boat, but he had also cured her injury. Although it was done because he felt he should repay her kindness of sending and protecting Third Brother home, but still, he felt that he had failed to draw a decisive line between the evil and the righteous. Therefore he decided that after the business in WangPan Island was over, he would quickly part from her and should never see her again.

Seeing the young man's face looking gloomy and displeased, immediately Yin SuSu could guess what he was thinking. Coldly she said: "Hmph! Not only Du DaJin and his two chief Escorts, but also the whole household, the two monks, and Hui Feng, were kiled by me."
"I have suspected you, only I don't know how you killed them," said CuiShan.

"No need for you to wonder," said the girl. "At that time I was hiding in the water by the bank of the lake. After being pressed by you, suddenly Hui Feng realized that our faces had different features, and he was about to explain; but before he could say it, I threw a needle into his mouth. You tried to look for me on the trees and on the road, of course you couldn't find me, as I was in the water."
"Because of what you did, now the people of Shaolin Clan accused me," said CuiShan feeling very vexed. "Miss Yin, you're really very smart and amazing". These words were said with anger, so it was said sarcastically. But SuSu played dumb, pretending that she did not know it; she even stood up and said while laughing and bending her body: "Ah, thank you for Fifth Hero Zhang's praises."

Of course CuiShan became even angrier, and he yelled at her angrily: "I never did any wrong to you, so why did you frame me so maliciously?"
SuSu smiled. "It's not that I want to frame you," she replied calmly. "It's just that as both Shaolin and WuDang Clans are two big and famous clans in the martial world, I want them to fight and thus to see which is stronger than the other."

Hearing her confession, CuiShan was very shocked, especially because she said it casually as if it was just a common thing. He never thought that a girl as beautiful as her could have such a big and vicious intention. He managed to restrain his anger but he became worried now. "Ah, so she has a big vicious plan behind it all. If Shaolin and WuDang really battled, I can't imagine how many people will die in the process and this would be a huge tragedy in the martial world," he thought.
But Yin SuSu looked happy, fanning herself with her fan. Smilingly, she asked: "Fifth Hero Zhang, may I take a look at the writings and painting on your fan?"

Before CuiShan could reply, suddenly a yell was heard from Chang JinPeng's boat: "Is it the boat of The Giant Whale Association? Who's on the boat?"
"Young Leader from The Giant Whale Association is here, to attend the meeting at WangPan Island." replied someone from the other boat.
"Miss Yin and Branch Leader Chang are here, please get your boat back behind us," that person from Chang JinPeng's boat said again.
"If the Sect Leader Yin from The White Eyebrows Sect himself is there, we will sail behind you," replied the other person yelled. "But otherwise, we won't."

Hearing the words "the Sect Leader Yin from The White Eyebrows Sect", CuiShan was surprised. "The White Eyebrows Sect? What kind of evil sect is that? Why haven't I ever heard of it from Teacher? Judging from their behavior, it must be quite powerful. It seems that it was created pretty recently, and as Teacher seldom leaves the mountain now, he must have not heard of it."
He looked outside the window and could see that on the right side there was a boat with the shape of a whale. At the head of the boat, some white rays of lights were shining because it was decorated with tens of white knives to form the whale's teeth. The body of the boat was curving and its tail was pointing up like the tail of a whale. Its sail was very large and so it could sail much faster than Chang JinPeng's boat.

Ki-keng-pang (The Giant Whale Association) was an association of pirates who were roaming along the shores of Soh-ciu, Ciat-kang and Hokkien provinces. They robbed, killed and did other evil deeds. The shape of their boats were special, and they were very fast, so the government's boats could not capture them. On the other hand, these boats were quite handy for robbing purposes on the sea. For tens of years The Giant Whale Association had dominated the eastern side of the ocean.

Chang JinPeng quickly came forward to the head of his boat. "Young Leader Mai," he yelled. "Miss Yin is here. Why aren't you willing give a bit face to us?"
From inside the boat's cabin of the Giant Whale Association, came out a young man wearing a yellow robe. He laughed coldly and said: "On land, The White Eyebrows Sect may dominate, but on water, we The Giant Whale Association holds the power. Besides, we are sailing together on the vast water , why do we have to take your orders and follow you from behind?"

CuiShan thought: "He's right. This river is so wide, more than ten boats can even sail side by side together if they like, why do they have to ask The Giant Whale Association's boat to sail behind them? The White Eyebrows Sect is too proud."

After that, the whale boat intentionally added another sail so it went ahead even faster. The distance between the two boats became bigger, so it was impossible to catch up with them anymore.
Suddenly Chang JinPeng grunted once, and the said: "The Giant Whale Association...The Dragon Sabre...". Because the wind was strong and the distance between the two boats were far, Young Leader Mai could only hear the words "The Dragon Sabre". He became startled and hurriedly asked his men to slow the boat down. After a while, Chang JinPeng's boat could cattch up.

"Branch Leader Zhang, what did you say?" asked that young man.
"Young Leader Mai...our Branch Leader Bai from Hian-bun Branch.....that Dragon Sabre...." replied Chang JinPeng.
CuiShan was perplexed. "Why did he speak in broken parts like that?"
Meanwhile the two boats became closer and closer.

Suddenly a strong gush of wind was felt, followed by a very loud sound. Chang JinPeng had taken a big anchor and threw it on the other boat. Accompanied by the cling-clang of the anchor's chains and the screams of two boatmen from the other boat, the big anchor hooked the whale boat, after hitting and killing the two boatmen.
"Hey! What are you doing?" yelled Young Leader Mai.
But Chang JinPeng was very fast; in a second he had thrown the second anchor, killing three boatmen at the other boat. Soon, the two boats were connected by the two anchors.

Hurriedly Young Leader Mai leapt to his boat's side and tried to unhook one of the anchors, but Chang JinPeng ignored him. But before he succeeded, suddenly Chang JinPeng moved his right hand and a huge black and green thing resembling a watermelon flew to the other boat and "Blang!", it hit the main mast in the middle.
That huge watermelon was one of the two watermelons Chang JinPeng used as weapons. They were made of steel, and were painted with stripes of black and green resembling a watermelon. Being connected together by a gold chain, the two watermelons served as a "Liu-sing-tui" or a huge double pendulums; only that they were of course much heavier. The left one weighed 48 kg while the right one weighed 53 kg. It was clear now how strong Chang JinPeng was. If someone did not have a huge strength, it was impossible to use them as weapons.

As soon as it was hit by the right watermelon, the main mast swayed. The left watermelon followed hitting the main mast so forcefully that it began to crack. When the right watermelon hit once again after the left watermelon, the main mast could not stand it anymore. "Crack...crack....Bang!". It fell down after breaking into two. The boatmen over there were yelling and shouting in shock, and panicking, pulled out their weapons. But Chang JinPeng would not stop there. Now he threw out both of his watermelons at the same time, and they simultaneously hit another smaller mast at the back. Surely the mast broke in just one blow.

Actually Young Leader Mai's kung fu was also very good. His weapons were "Hun-cui-go-bi-ji", a pair of about 30cm short staffs with sharp pointed tips, which was very suitable for fighting underwater as they were light and could be moved very swiftly. But in his shock and confusion, before he could do anything, Chang JinPeng had broken two of his masts. Becoming furious but unable to do anything to prevent it, he yelled and swore in anger.
"Hmph! When we The White Eyebrows Sect is here on water, you The Giant Whale Associates can't dominate anymore!" thundered Chang JinPeng while retrieving his two watermelons. Then his hand moved again and now it was the side of the whale boat that he aimed. "Blang!" The watermelon made a big hole at the side of the boat, and water quickly rushed in, adding to the panick.

Quickly Young Leader Mai pulled out his weapons "Go-bi-ji", and leapt onto the head of Chang JinPeng's boat. But Chang JinPeng waited until he reached the highest point of his jump, then suddenly he threw his left watermelon upward towards his opponent. This attack was very dangerous, because it would be difficult for someone in mid air to evade it.
"Aiya!" exclaimed Young Leader Mai in surprise while using his two weapons to poke at the watermelon. He meant to borrow the force to leap back onto his own boat. But although Young Leader Mai's Lightness kung fu was not bad, it was still far below that of Zhang CuiShan. If his Lightness kung fu was as good as CuiShan's, not only that he would be able to evade, he would even be able to counter-attack. Because the the watermelon was so heavy and it was thrown using Chang JinPeng's huge strength, of course he could not stand the blow. Instantly his chest felt heavy while his eyes were seeing stars; and his body was thrown back onto his own boat.

As soon as his opponent was defeated, Chang JinPeng began to bombard the whale boat with his two watermelons, resulting in a lot of holes on its body. Then using his Internal Strength, he pulled the anchors back to his own boat, causing the side of the whale boat to crack and to give way by the sheer force. With a loud noise, the whale boat fell apart. Not needing any order from their Branch Leader, his men from the White Eyebrows Sect knew what to do, they quickly raised the sail and sailed on.

From the window, Zhang CuiShan saw how Chan JinPeng destroyed the opponent's boat, and he was startled and his heart beat faster. He thought: "Hadn't I have learned the technique of 'Borrow Strength, Return Strength' from Teacher, his previous blow on my back would surely have killed me. In just a short moment this person had tricked the enemies and then destroyed them; not only his kung fu is very good, but he's also very smart and clever. He must be an important figure in that evil sect." When he turned his head to look at Miss Yin, he saw her looking just ordinary, as if nothing unusual had happened.

At that time, a thunderous sound was heard, the nightly rising tide of the QianTang River was approaching. Although the pirates of The Giant Whale Association could swim well, but if the waves were mountainous, they wouldn't be able to stand it for long. Moreover, the location now was at the mouth of the river where it met the open sea, and the width of the river was as wide as more than ten kilometers, so it was a long way to either shore. Hearing the sound of the thundering waves approaching, the pirates became very frightened and they were screaming for help. But both Chang JinPeng's and Yin SuSu's boats kept sailing towards the east, and ignored them.

When Zhang CuiShan looked back again at the whale boat, he saw that it had sunk half way. If another wave hit it, it would sunk completely into the river. Hearing the frightened screams of the pirates, his heart felt sorry for them; but knowing that both Yin SuSu and Chang JinPeng were heartless and cruel people, he felt it would be useless to ask them to save the pirates.

Seeing Zhang CuiShan's facial expression , Yin SuSu smiled. Suddenly she yelled: "Branch Leader Chang, Fifth Hero Zhang's heart is compassionate. You can help those people from the Giant Whale Association."
This took CuiShan by surprise, as this was really beyond his expectation.
Soon he heard Chang JinPeng replied from over there: "Respectfully carrying out our Honorable Guest's request!" Then he steered his boat diagonally and then went back towards the sinking whale boat.
"Hey, listen, the people from the Giant Whale Association! It is Fifth Hero Zhang from WuDang Clan that saved your lives! Whoever wants to live, swim towards our boat!"

The pirates became very happy and hurriedly they swam along with the river's current, while Chang JinPeng's boat sailed against the strong current to pick them up. Before long, they managed to save almost all of of the pirates including Young Leader Mai. Nevertheless, six or seven pirates were swallowed by big waves and disappeared.

"Thank you for saving their lives," said CuiShan.
The girl made a sound with her nose and said flatly: "Those people from The Giant Whale Association robbed and killed people as they like; among them, who has no blood debt? Why did you save them instead?"
CuiShan was astounded, he could not answer the girl's question. He had ever heard of the notority of the the Giant Whale Association, which was one of the four most cruel Associations. He had never thought that today he would save their lives instead.

Meanwhile Yin SuSu already said again: "I know, if I had not had saved them, you would have been angry with me, thinking: 'Hm, a girl as young as this, but so cruel and poisonous, more cruel than a poisonous animal. I, Zhang CuiShan, had made a mistake having cured her wounds!' Right?"
This correctly described what Zhang CuiShan had been feeling at the moment, so he turned bright red, and had to say: "You're so good with words, how can I win an argument with you? You're the one who have helped them, so you're the one who have done a good deed and will receive a reward from the gods; it has nothing to do with me."

At that moment, the sound of the thundering waves roared so loudly, and the boat Zhang CuiShan and Yin SoSo were in was swayed roughly by the big waves that it was hard to hear each other talk. When CuiShan looked out of the window, he saw the waves were rolling as big as hills; if they had not helped save the lives of the Giant Whale Associations' pirates, they would have been at the bottom of the sea by now.

Suddenly SuSu went into the back compartment of the cabin and closed its door. After a while, she came out again in a woman's clothes, and gestured to CuiShan to take off his outer robe.
Because he felt that it would be rude to keep turning her down, CuiShan took his outer robe off. He thought the girl would help mend the tear. But unexpectedly she handed him the male robe she had just worn previously, and gestured to him to put it on, before she returned to the back compartment again to keep CuiShan's torn robe.

Because now CuiShan was wearing only inner clothes, he had no other choice than did as she asked him to and put on the male robe previously worn by Yin SuSu. The robe was originally too big for Yin SuSu, and although CuiShan's body was much bigger than Yin SuSu's, the robe was not too tight for him. Faintly he could smell a fragrant scent coming out from this robe previously worn by Yin SuSu. Instantly his heart jumped out, and he did not dare to look at the girl anymore. Doning a serious facial expression, he sat down very nicely, pretending to admire a painting hanging on the cabin's wall, as quiet as a mouse, while in fact his heart was pounding and his mind was swaying wildly up and and down just like the big waves hitting the boat's side.

SuSu also kept silent and did not speak anymore to him. Suddenly a big wave rocked the boat, it tilted to its side and the only candle in the room was blown out, leaving the room pit dark.
"Oh no!" CuiShan groaned silently. "We two young man and woman alone in a dark room by ourselves; although I will never do any improper thing to her, but this might tarnish Miss Yin's name." Because of this, hurriedly he opened the cabin's door and walked over to the boatman at the head of the boat to watch him managing the boat calmly against the huge waves.

About an hour later, the tide had retreated back to the sea, and the boat traveled even faster now. At dawn, they could see WangPan Island from afar.

If I am not mistaken, this website is American, so all the translations here are under US laws?
well, yes, but like I said, some compagny have their own "idea" of what law may be

I wonder if they will scold, will they scold the translator, or the website he or she posts? Whose property and responsibility is the translation? the translator's, or the website's?
If they scold someone, they will scold the website because webmasters are responsible for the contents of their sites.
But don't forget a psychological fact : chineses compagny don't bother if someone translate their work because counterfeighting is legal there. so you have nothing to fear from them

    OUCH!
sorry, I didn't mean it that way ! I only wanted to say that they weren't forced to stop their translation but that they were doing it on their own.

    Sorry for the many questions
No problem. glad to see my little knowledge in commercial laws useful
