SPCNET history 101??

I don't know if this topic had been brought up.

I'm always interested to hear about how a group (social media to organizations) got started and the reason why. spcnet, probably you can give newbies a History class 101?

I would like to know:

How did it started and the reason why?

Why the name SPCNET? (forgive me if I'm clueless to all of this. My friend and I were curious. ) and What does it stands for?

Was it a close knit community at first before it became international/national wide for everyone?

What is unique about this site comparing to the others? (I know one for sure it is Wuxia...LOL...)

And besides you, who are the oldest members that are still active?

Anything else that you would like to share, please do so. Thanks and I hope this isn't a lot to ask.

SC, the admin, should answer these questions but I'll see if I can answer them.

I don't know how it started it but I believe SC, she wanted to create a website and a forum where people can discuss their common interest in Chinese TV serials (HK/Taiwanese and China) and also Wuxia. I think SPCNET existed as early as 1998 or so? The forum was not as nice as this, it was pretty archaic like nested threads kind of like the forums at IMDB.com or if you are familiar with Winglin forums and how they were structured.

SPCNET stands for Space Net. Shortened to SPCNET. Makes sense? Yeah. That simple.

I officially joined SPCNET in 2001 after high school.

Close knit? Define Close knit? We had several regular forum members and we posted regularly but now that people have family and etc, I gather they don't visit the forum much any more until the forum is just a distant memory? *shrugs* Or they just simply have a different lifestyle now and no longer visit. Some veteran forum members still pop in here and there.

What is unique? I don't know, you get what you see. It's different.

Ken Cheng is a mod and SPCNET is practically his e-home. He's almost (I did say ALMOST, Ken, so I'm not implying any thing!) always here. Proud of it too. And Other old members can speak for themselves.

Now my question for you is how did you find SPCNET?

I appreciate the little history of SPCNET. It gave me a better understanding of it and now I know what SPCNET means!

Now for your question. I found SPCNET from browsing in Ancientchinese.net/wuxiaedge when I was hooked on Swordsman 2013 and Xuan Yuan Sword 3-legend of rift. That was when I finally struck gold. LOL. This was a place where I told my crazy friends and siblings about upcoming mainland/hk/taiwa series. I would go on this site as a Guest to check on the Mainland series for new updates and shows, and a silent reader in fanfics and wuxia translations.

How did they trick you? but I know how you feel. My Hmong sucks too-especially the white dialect. I get teased a lot singing in that dialect.
