Wah kao, translating this paragraph is really giving me a headache...
那古墓派玉女功养生修炼,有“十二少、十二多”的正反要诀:“少思、少念、少欲、
少事、少语、少笑、少愁、少乐、少喜、少怒、少好、少恶。行此十二少,乃养生之都契

If you happen to read any paragraph that seems to be total rubbish in Chap 39 then this must be the one... I can't help it, my mastery of the Chinese language is not at that level yet...
I think that ending something is better than actually leaving it hanging in the middle of the story causing all of us to suffer from withdrawal syndroms! Anybody agree with me on that?Originally Posted by Bloodflowers

Have you figured out this 'pm' business yet? If not, just look at the upper right hand corner of your screen. When you log-in, you should see something like:Originally Posted by f.alchemist_freak

Perhaps you could send the offending paragraph to me? I will check it against my source. At least you will have another reference.Originally Posted by IcyFox

OK, I'll go with the 'Golden Blade' since it's more colorful.Originally Posted by IcyFox
Thanks guys.
Actually, it should be 'Golden Blade Consort', since 'Fu Ma' means 'royalty/emperor's son-in-law'. Am I right?Originally Posted by JamesG
I recalled in the LoCH Huang Rong made a joke, she called Guo Jing 'fu niu' (ma - a horse, niu - a cow). Guo Jing was born in the year of the ox/cow.

True enough since GJ was betrothed to Hua Zhen. Golden Blade Consort it is! Funny, he was trained with the sword as a child and fought with it in the Mongolian Army, but didn't seem to use it much later on.
Thanks

About the same here. Chapter 39 is probably the longest chapter in the whole novel. I think Jin Yong was trying to finish all the important stuff in Chap 39 so he could start HSDS in Chap 40.Originally Posted by jin_yong_fan
So I'll be taking slightly longer to complete Chap 39. (Chap 39 has about 30 pages; in comparison, other chapters on the average only have about 24-26 pages.)
Er, Look up... The bunch of Chinese words above your post.Originally Posted by fox-s

i'm trying a humble translation of chap 40 now, geez the part about stupid shaolin monks is making me mad!
Stupid monks? What makes them stupid? Or perhaps they just look stupid?Originally Posted by elfyhead
Sorry, just trying to lighten up the mood here. Everyone as a role to play here even though they are not translating the story at all.

And how did that lighten the mood? Those monks are stupid because he decided the monks are stupid in their course of translation, and we're all entitled to our opinions without others challenging them or questioning them. I may sound like a hypocrite to some, but thats what I and probably 99% of humanity are.
I think William was just joking by asking what made those monks stupid. That's why he said sorry, and explained that he was only trying to lighten up the mood.Originally Posted by Carefree Assassin

You're doing Chap 40? That'd be great. But I'll prefer to do the first part myself, if you don't mind.Originally Posted by elfyhead
For me I think the monks are not in the least bit stupid... One of them will become Zhang San Feng, the greatest fighter in JY's canon, you know?
